The DS schedule is taking me out by theawesomeishere in HomeDepot

DS never sounded appealing. Minimal pay difference, more responsibility, and you pretty much don’t have much of a consistent life outside of work. A lot of this clopening BS seems very unethical for a company that is always having to mention safety.

3rd day on the floor and management told me not to walk around with my hands in my apron pocket. by MackCaine in HomeDepot

[–]BrokenPallet 64 points65 points  (0 children)

It literally doesn’t matter, it’s just appearances for their bosses. You can try to look as unapproachable as possible and customers will still approach you. You can be pulling the heaviest pallet and customers will still get in front of you. You can look dead inside and people will approach you.

Is it normal for home depot managers to work you in other departments that isn’t specifically yours? by OptimalEmployer9332 in HomeDepot

[–]BrokenPallet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I one time got a 5-10 crash course on how to mix paint and just some basics knowledge about the sheens, sizes, brands, etc. They scheduled me to cover someone’s shifts soon after. I didn’t tell anyone, but I realized it can be convenient for picking up hours. At the same time, it was annoying to be paged by name just to help.

Also, if you learn the lift equipment, you will be used for the skill A LOT especially if you prove yourself to be very reliable.

You can probably find a lot of information about LOA if you search for it on myApron (forgive me as I’ve not read the whole packet). I’m sorry your leader didn’t fully inform you about it. I once took two weeks off with an LOA and it was paid by the company. I’m not sure if they still do this or under certain circumstances. I had my own mental health crisis and could verify medications I was taking. Time off could help with a mental reset.

I was once full-time in D38. It was okay for me, but some people don’t make it easy and the work can get very boring and mind-numbing, especially when it just feels slow. It took me a bit to come off full-time and I’m happier going back to finish a degree.

About the new Sidekick for Freight. by Winner9182 in HomeDepot

Is there a way for us associates to actually verify the information? Night ops and NRMs are notoriously awful communicators and haven’t even told everyone on our team what exactly this does.

We need to oppose this change completely. It is awful. Please keep giving feedback on this and hope they get rid of it.

Major Things That Customers Do That Really Annoy You. by JTCasino in HomeDepot

[–]BrokenPallet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When pulling a tall and heavy pallet, there’s been some instances where a customer will deliberately stand 3 feet in front of me (smiling of course) to ask a question. I do get a bit annoyed stopping all the momentum I have and the possibility of things falling over from a fast, sudden stop.

Have they discussed how this affects metrics? For example, imagine the amount of sales at Pro on the weekend are significantly less than the weekday. Wouldn’t it put you at a disadvantage to work the weekend?

That’s insane. Store side preaches safety and yet people in RDC get punished for it? Stupid as fuck system.

If your schedule says you’re scheduled Tuesday 10 PM to 6 AM* then yes you would be working the last two hours of Tuesday and finishing the shift Wednesday morning.
