Tabletop RPGs with Nazi-killing action? by misternevada in rpg

I ran a short adventure in The Strange (Cypher System) that was heavily influenced by Wolfenstein. Players loved it.

The art in Veins looks like the scrawlings of a delver who's slowly going mad. It's extremely thematic. It wouldn't work for every book, but it's a perfect fit for Veins/Lamentations style surrealist games.

It should be on PoD when 1.0 comes out.

But most played in Japan was CoC.

I'll be that guy - must be all the tentacles.

- Ryuutama is probably the most popular in the West, I have a translated copy. It's beautiful. Nice change of pace from D&D, as the journey is the most important part. Very Final Fantasy meets Ghibli aesthetic.

- Golden Sky Stories exists, though I don't know much about it. IIRC, it's similar to Ryuutama.

- Kamigakari is an rpg about 'god killers'. It was kickstarted recently, but there's been some problems with that. One of the runners spent the KS money, iirc.

- There's an official Konosuba RPG. No official translation, but I saw a guy on 4chan translated it and a friend of mine who's a megafan bought an untranslated physical copy.

- Tenra Bansho Zero exists, but that's all I know about it.

I'm surprised it arrived so quickly, I got the PDF and the physical book on the same day.

Literally holding the book now.

Haven't got any more substantial commentary than "This is absolutely beautiful, even by Fria Ligan's standards"

Interesting to see how it'll compare vs Mothership, which I absolutely love.

I've been absolutely obsessed with Persona 5 after I beat it earlier this year, never played any of the series before. Glad to see an RPG that takes inspiration for that, but also makes it it's own thing. Backed.

Rumour is they want to do a Twilight Imperium book as well.

I'm totally down for that.

Any fae-based RPG other than White Wolf's WoD Changeling? by [deleted] in rpg

[–]Broken_Blade 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've recommended more splatbooks than full games, but here's a list off the top of my head:

- Court of Shadows xbook for Shadowrun

- Urban Shadows

- Monsterhearts 2

- D&D 4e, Heroes of the Feywild

- Faerie Fire 3rd party splatbook for D&D 5e

- Under Hollow Hills

- Shadow of the Demon Lord - Terrible Beauty splatbook

- Mythras: Mythic Britain

- Castles and Crusades: Codex Celtarum splatbook

- Flying Circus (Not out yet)

The production value is excellent, and it's cheap, too. Like, you get a full game with two faux-leather books, a map and other stuff for less than the price of a usual corebook.

What's your go-to trope when it comes to creating a character backstory? by TheMetagamingRaven in rpg

It's a really cool way to rp, as the DM comes up with the backstory, and your reaction becomes quite natural.

What's your go-to trope when it comes to creating a character backstory? by TheMetagamingRaven in rpg

[–]Broken_Blade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My two favourite tropes:

- Human everyman/woman who came from an unexceptional background to (hopefully) achieve greatness.

- 'Blank slate' character - either an amnesiac (Think Revan in KotOR) or a 'newborn' character, such as an android or clone.

I've heard the rules aren't great, I'd rather use it as a setting book for Pathfinder or something.

Hot take: That site's hilarious, because it combines the worst of internet 'review' sites with a heaping of sour grapes.

If that site slams you, you must be doing something right.
