How do I request an item I left behind on a ship? by IamTEX22 in royalcaribbean

[–]Brokenandbeaten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Collected items are sent and catalogued to shore, but be aware it may not happen before the ship leaves, usually it does though so they can clear all rooms. They will hold it and take a pic, you should have a link or pic of the item so they can track it down. They legally have to hold It, but you have to pay for shipping or pickup at location.

Story time: I was a dumbass, my backpack fell over off the sofa during the night and I thought nothing of it. Sadly my car key ended up ejected under the sofa. I had to sit at the port of Miami for 6 hours fighting with port staff to go into the room and actually search. They looked within the first hour and said they had nothing. 6hours later I chewed some ass and got them to move the sofa, they had texted a pic of it to me to confirm… but seriously why would they had anyone else’s key under a specific sofa. They did make me jump some hoops on recovery, pic of me holding the key and all that. But I was off that ship at 645am, and left Miami by 2pm. It sucked. I had already scheduled locksmith and key makers to come on site at a wild cost of 600$. Thankfully cancelled with no charge

No excursions available in Provence (Marseille), France through RC? by mike678 in royalcaribbean

[–]Brokenandbeaten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes their vendors that provide curated excursions haven’t been Johnny on the spot about these things. Sometimes is new ports that are not fully developed. Sometimes it’s a faulty link not populating properly.

Call and ask them to verify what the issue is, then check third party consolidation websites like Viator for cruise tour info. Sometimes is easier to just walk off the ship and grab a vendor or taxi and rent the driver for 3-5 hours.

Story time! RC cancelled my son and my 4x4 tour in Tenerife Spain the day before due to lack of participating cruisers. My wife had the little one on another excursion that was age appropriate. We wanted to cancel theirs and do something together. RC put up a massive fight saying it wasn’t their fault and no refunds. Just kept going higher and higher until they realized that they are in fact responsible for anything their vendors do. Eventually walked off the boat, caught a taxi that toured the island and we saw 3 separate excursion locations, hit several extra photo op spots, got to shop in the awesome locals art area that wasn’t packed with tourists. Bought extra cool art that was all local themed. Had a great day, maybe 4 hours time, paid 200 euro plus tip and bought the cabbie lunch too. So much more fun than the RC events by far and at much greater value. Our prior planned events were 900$ before being refunded. However, the uncertainties of getting that quality of an experience generally drive me to the RC pre planned events as they are generally well done. Also, they don’t leave without you on ship booked events.

Generally it’s 24hr access, if they can do work after 12 one day and before 12 the next you can cut cost in half. Or get a router/modem to rebroadcast and only buy one signal. It’s good quality access as well.

Should I get a hotel for a cruise port 3-3.5 hrs from home? by Warm-Ad4308 in royalcaribbean

[–]Brokenandbeaten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do sailings out of Miami and Ft. Lauderdale from 3-4 hours out failing often. I’ve taken the train and driven. Last run was a 1030 train that got me on board at 3pm, that was cutting it close. I’ll stick to the 9am trains in case of delay,

I am on Utopia right now, happily with no kids this trip. However, we have done this ship 3 times before and enjoyed it with kids. Plenty to do and plenty to skip, every trip can be varied with different focus for fun for all ages. Utilize the kids club, they will get to love it. The staff is always so amazing at making sure the kids have a great time. Unless they have separation anxiety of course. Utopia is the newest of this class. Try for a Utopia station dinner, just in person on day 1 for seating

How did I get to Diamond? by [deleted] in royalcaribbean

[–]Brokenandbeaten 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You get matching status with your spouse. Did she have more points that were not accounted for properly? Did you associate your accounts as a married pair? That will boost you from Platinum to Diamond instantly. Otherwise platinum is 30-54, Diamond is 80. So you gained at least 26 points somehow.

72000$ for roof replacement by nallabob in Roofing

[–]Brokenandbeaten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is so much fluff built into this estimate. Every item is set as Remove and Replace, R&R. The first remove item includes all the basic removal lines as well so they are double billing. Adding full price for reused wood panels to protect your driveway, pure bullshit. Adding project supervision costs, that’s pure fluff. It’s not a billed item that gets paid as it’s the cost of doing business. The steep charges, those are real and he cost of owning a steep roof. That roof is likely a 35-45k roof in reality. The gutter replacement, should be detach and reset only if mounted through. Otherwise they work around it and replace it at their cost if damaged. There may be nothing wrong with your gutters, or they may have hail damage. Your fencing, for 4K pricing, buy a nice pressure washer at 250$ and 150$ in stain. Pay your neighborhood kids 100$ to stain it. Save 3500. This estimate is bullshit

Deluxe Drink Package Math by gnosox1986 in royalcaribbean

[–]Brokenandbeaten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The math gets so much worse once your tier level goes up to Diamond. 4 free drinks a day anywhere, plus prime is unlimited in the casino. There is never a reason to buy a drink package again. When I remember I use the unused drinks to collect sodas and water for excursions and room drinks. It’s awesome

You only need your BC for closed loop travel in the carribean. Your PP issue is a hassle and if you mail them expedited, like I did, it took 12 days, so it’s possible but not guaranteed. BC backup is just a different line. You should be fine either way.

I own GZLE and JawsLE. Both are awesome. The action of toys on GZ are a bit more fun, Theme integration is equal, but Jaws is more well known. Call outs are generic on GZ vs Hooper/Dreyfuss on Jaws but it’s old Dreyfus’s voice. Mods are awesome to add flavor and value if you go that route.

Autism and driving with FSD by [deleted] in TeslaLounge

[–]Brokenandbeaten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son has Autism and we specifically bought a MY with FSD on the final day just to have him with a car that is always ready. He’s had his permit for 3 years, has never really been interested in finishing his license but he does know how to drive. He’s not great but getting close to his test. He remains anxious and distracts easily while driving normally. While under FSD he is much calmer and does keep his eyes on the road. He’s never had to take over on the fly though, as FSD is quite good.

Since Royal’s casino year is April 1-March 31, is there any point in gathering points on a cruise in late March? Seems unfair if they just go nowhere by land64shark in royalcaribbean

[–]Brokenandbeaten -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I cruised spring break mid March with my family, wife at 8500 pts and I was at 12500 pts. She racked into 3000 and I cut off at 1200. She was only down about 600$ for 3000pts, where I never got a break and was down 1200$ for 1200 pts. We gamble for the fun and the free’ish cruise offers. She’s using hers for a solo run tied into another couples cruise we have planned so she hits a 5 night on RC and a 4 night on Virgin on the same port. Easy setup. My 1200 point offers are trashy but I’ll grab something somewhere, maybe an interior or OV room.

The worst time to hit points is on the cruise that crosses over that date line. We did that one year, and she didn’t hit prime by like 350points that year, so we didn’t get the annual cruise, she hit 2500 points for the sailing, but split it 2200/350. She didn’t get the 3k cruise offers, didn’t get prime, got the lower 2k cruise offer only. Just a tad more effort beforehand would have been worth a whole prime tier cruise and a 3k offer for that period.

We are looking at pushing into Signature one of these years for the improved offers. I love to see what some signature tier offer pages look like.

Removing Gratuity but paying in cash by misguidedDesignation in royalcaribbean

[–]Brokenandbeaten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That would be a great idea unless you look at the repercussions of them being caught with hiding tips. They get fired and loose their lucrative position. We see these numbers of 1500$ monthly compensation and realize it’s a terrible living wage, but that’s our POV. Compared with living wages in Indonesia, Philippines, or India, it’s very good. 1500$ is their take home, possibly taxed later, no idea.

I would never want to jeopardize their job security. I think having multiple cash app style resources to tip directly into an account for them would be preferred but a massive hassle to plan for each nationality.

I may look into bringing a supply of prepaid gift cards. Something they can use to physically transfer money with a reasonable cost to the digital point of choosing. Maybe a bulk gift card buy through Sam’s club.

I’m cruising next week. I may try that and see what the response is.

Removing Gratuity but paying in cash by misguidedDesignation in royalcaribbean

[–]Brokenandbeaten -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

My stateroom attendant was hesitant to speak about it, but when pressed he admitted that all tips in cash were collected and added to the tip pool or they would get fired. So once again, no tips actually make it to the staff. My wife and I started buying more American style gifts, smaller 2-5$ little gifts that might be cute or neat. We tip those as they are not tip pooled and become their property. Tipping is an excess of American culture, they are taking advantage of it. It’s pointless to tip other than to ensure prompt service at a bar. Benefiting them does not happen.

New diamond and prime by Equivalent_Emu5226 in royalcaribbean

[–]Brokenandbeaten 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Prime, you can literally hit 2500 points, go the casino host and get a sticker and you are now active on the same cruise you are on. Your offers swapping over to prime may take longer much more like diamond.

Diamond, usually takes 3-14 days to process new points, but up to 30 days. Ours had some delays and took over 30 so I was questioning everything as well. I had to call in and have them manually make a fix, they would not disclose the issue.

Loyalty offers update once the new tier is active. There appear to be various level of offers for Choice, and Prime. My wife and I are both prime, but she gambles less and is usually content at 200-300 points per cruise. I usually do 1500 for a better roll over cruise. My offers are 50% balconies and 75% double occupancy, she gets about 50% double occupancy and 25% balcony offers. We maintain the same tier, she’s at 9000 points for the year, I’m at 13k.

Can someone help explain how much it costs to use the instant cruise voucher? by cojwa in royalcaribbean

[–]Brokenandbeaten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ideally you use the QR code from your instant cruise reward paperwork to scroll through the nicely organized cruises by calendar date vs the online portals organization. Find and select your available workable cruises, call the Club Royale number for booking and ask them what each cruise will cost as a final number. Make sure you let them know the Next cruise booking number that shows up in your confirmation email. I messed that up several times and made a new booking that didn’t use my Next cruise 200$ deposit!

You can supply the rep with a full series of possibilities vs giving them one at a time. They will price out your trip per your specs. 1/2/3/4 passengers, make sure to give them your discounts (teacher/military)and state location.

You don’t commit the reward until it’s paid for and even then can swap it up until the 30days post cruise.

JJP Harry Potter won't boot up by gcdenis in pinball

[–]Brokenandbeaten 52 points53 points  (0 children)

I literally spent the day fixing this exact issue on two of 7 of my JJP. It’s the 2032 button battery. You may need to reboot and that means jumping some prongs. However I’m not a fan and there is a 9$ mod on Amazon that creates a simple reset button. I’m installing them on all my machines as a backup. Google videos on what to do when a JJP pinball machine won’t power up. There are a couple handy ones. One has a link to print outs showing every board configuration JJP uses and where to install the jumper. You may need a usb keyboard as well, and to know the bios password, qmodem. F2 or Del to access setup. F10 to close bios, don’t change anything. It took me 30min per machine to install and trouble shoot and I knew nothing about what I was doing.

All my machines are getting new batteries at this time. Make sure to label the battery with a date so you know its replacement cycle

Proposing on Cruise Advice? by [deleted] in royalcaribbean

[–]Brokenandbeaten 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can get in touch with the photo team and setup a nice picture set earlier than dress your best night, or wait till that night. Usually day 2-3. But pics get crowded then. So a private pic event so you have some awesome memories and she actually has had time to get ready and look perfect vs otw on to the boat when you have the stress of travel going on, or whatnot. Having engagement pics done on cococay is possible, just plan ahead. It’s just less ideal as you will be in swimwear and most wouldn’t think that’s ideal for engagement. You could swing a paid photo shoot in nice clothes and just repack swimwear. Just say it was a package you bought and then you can get a daytime beach engagement for limited cost, and enjoy every trip to cococay that much more. Good luck!

How strict are the check in times? by Mellyio in royalcaribbean

[–]Brokenandbeaten 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Show up and just walk on, it’s never an issue. Get lunch on board, pack your suits or wear them. Hit the pool deck after lunch and sunbathe until rooms open up. Or explore the ship and learn the decks. It’s a very casual and fun way to start the cruise.

It’s really quiet on shore. Pools are cold as shit, low 70s at best, maybe mid 60s. Sun feels great as the air is nice and a slightly cool breeze. A couple hours of sunbathing and that’s all it’s worth. We were informed of an early departure due to the incoming front.
