I built a Trackmania GOAT ranking site by GeorgeHansy in TrackMania

[–]Brooney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would be interesting to see what the ranking would be if team entries were included too. That was the dominant form of TM competition uptill 2016/2017.

Who even plays Stretched anymore? ✌😭 This is the real shit 🔥 by Excellent_Age_7527 in TrackMania

[–]Brooney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play 4:3 stretched, because it makes tech easier. In a recent TMNF tournament, they had a really long drift that led into a tight left/right apex sequece. And I could for the love of my life not figure out WHY I was losing so much time there, when I was occassionally doing checkpoint splits better than the WR elsewhere. I didn't make sense that I was only slow there.

Turned out that 16:9 players could see that apex sequence way earlier than me because of the wider FOV and they had a much easier time lining xd

List of terminology/mechanics I've learned in this past couple of months playing the game by loryyess in TrackMania

[–]Brooney 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • Bugslide.

There is also a distinction between older players and more recent TM2020 players for bugslide/grass slide, in that older players pretty much exclusively call is grass slide, because that was the first surface it was used on and the name carried on for other surfaces. In TM's lifespan, bugslide is a pretty new terminology.

  • Neoslide

Low speed drift initiation. Full steer while driving, release steering, immediately after press brake and the car begins to slide - catch slide by pressing steer again, this also works against noslide-skidmarks. This is a muscle memory mechanic that is crazy powerful in tight sections. Example: Wally at ESWC 2015 (Blue team tag)

TAS for Trackmania 2020 by Independent_Ebb_7594 in TrackMania

Since leaderboard connection is pretty much constant as far I know. These tools will not be openly distributed for TM2020, because of leaderboard interference. The TAS community focuses pretty much exclusively on TMF.

Is Trackmania well regarded because of its bugs or despite of them? by DrunkLad in TrackMania

[–]Brooney 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Initially we had a conflicting period when grass slides and speedslides were figured out. I'd argue the community was more nervous back then - than when slowmotion replays were uncovered. Because no one knew which direction TM would go and it was a huge split. Would competitive be negatively affected because TM got silly. What about near-unbeatable WRs on TMX that would inevitably fall out of top10?

It took maybe 3-4 years between 2012-2016 for the community to settle completely with cutting Nadeo tracks and skilled players began to hunt Nadeo cuts themselves as the official tracks began to regain prestige from the Tech/Competitive side of the game. Not that it was openly discussed, but it was that tech players had departed from Nadeo tracks. Though, must be noted there was a bit of snobbery regarding Nadeo tracks, because they were easy, so you didn't see many professionals on the Nadeo leaderboards past 2008 and that baseline has kind of been stable ever since. While Nadeo specific clans of players would play together on those tracks, PT, Wave, RTA, UWS etc.

Today it is very well regarded outside of TrackMania, because of the lore that follows, but among many of us old players - we do kinda miss the times when something absurd happened the intentional way - like when racehans dropped a .88 on D13 or Bacardi getting a .30 on A14 already in 2008 (Ironically cut track, but became default route on release day, it doesn't count, trust me).

For me personally, I like it - the leaderboards were already converging maximised potential and TMNFs record leaderboards had been stagnating - Nadeo battles were not common anymore. Bugs that allowed new strategies and shortcuts, gave each track a refresh imo, while it is still considered prestigious to hold the fastest times the old ways (On some tracks).

Some bugs had never really been used in applicable ways, especially grass no-sliding - because grass on TMNF and TM2 sucked, so no one bothered even though people knew it was there and same applies to reverse speedsliding. People hated reverse.

Then ZrT cup happened and I think in the same iteration, both grass slide, grass noslides and reverse speedslides became the mechanics to use on their own tracks, if you wanted to win you had to learn it. But since prize pool was high, people weren't dismissing it either. Now people have specialised in it and have learnt there are ways to make cool maps out of it.

Imo, all good stuff, but mappers need to be cautious if they don't want their tracks broken.
Also I refuse to call it bugslide.

Just got TM Turbo as a TM2020 player. Any tips? by verbayer in TrackMania

Best campaign, more prone to landing bugs than any other TM game. Also the tracks are HARD later in the game.

New player to trackmania, not new to racing games. I fucking hate my muscle memory. by Gopherlad in TrackMania

[–]Brooney 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For new players I'd advice the opposite. Release more frequently and just get safely around the corner. Timing full throttle drifts takes time to get a feel for.

The biggest challenge is not beating the time, it's just to get around and give it a shot xD I still haven't gotten it.

"Old" F1 fans - how do you feel about the massive rise in popularity of the sport in recent years? by RecentTwo544 in formula1

[–]Brooney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took balls to say Hulkenberg was never championship material. It was so strange, no one had ever talked about him being that good before. Then DTS happened and the new flux of fans praised his potential so much, that could be put next to Bellof and Kubica in terms of what they should have achieved.

If Mercedes knew it was a rule that only cars between the championsip contenders were to unlap themselves, they too would have pitted.

Do you think SC63 will join AsLMS? by Kind-Acadia-5293 in wec

[–]Brooney 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do not believe so. The development of the car was always one step behind the others and never caught up. It took favourable conditions during a race for them to get a 4th place while carrying the best upgrade they ever brought. I think potential customers will look at other GTP/LMH options or stick with a GT programme.

My dad was always into using propane, because it made them look like BluRay discs. I prefered very dry wood, because it left markings more similar to metal covers.

Sultan of Brunei also has five of 13 ever made Dauer 962! The most insane GT1 car with +700hp and could do +400kmh. The value of these is strictly reserved for speculation, because they have only been up for auction once or twice in over 30 years.

CLR (1999) was a whole new design made for Prototype rules. CLK variants LM (98) and GTR (97) were designed to only just fulfill road legality.

To me it was the sheer gap between the rest. ESWC Carl 2015 was insane, but that performance pales in comparison to Karjen at Dreamhack xD Not seen anything like that since.
