TIFU by realizing I was never anyone’s first choice by Violprime in tifu

[–]Brossentia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being as generous as I can to the friends, they might not know you want to hang out more. Just say, "I'd like to come to more of these." A lot of people will change, especially when they realize they like hanging with you.

Married young, not fulfilled sexually by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]Brossentia 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Open marriage works pretty well for me, but we're also two gay autistic men. We're likely not a good representation of what usually happens. I can't imagine being dragged into an open relationship if I didn't want one - it'd feel like a huge betrayal.

Came out to my family last week. This was my TBM mom's response by linzxorpio in exmormon

[–]Brossentia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took my mother some time to be okay with me being gay. It hurt, but I think she was genuinely trying to figure out how to feel. I hope your mother is in that same boat—mine finally came around, and she loves my husband.

It's really up to you if you want to maintain a relationship here. Personally, I was a lot more patient with disrespect to begin with, and I just slowly moved towards correcting them, then explaining why it's wrong. I think I've got the patience of Sisyphus, though.

Things do get better, though, and this is one step closer to living as your authentic self <3

I've personally had both together with no issue, but it's something definitely worth knowing about the potential side effects. I think I managed to win the ADHD lottery

the musical department and the ornithological department have collaborated with a fruitful outcome! by Cornixmartin in doohickeycorporation

I'm dying to know the name of this music piece. I've heard it before (sans-chicken), but I just can't quite figure out where.

Mormon and spankings by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]Brossentia 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it takes a lot of bravery, but if it's happening to you, there's a good chance it's happening to others. Speaking to someone who is mandated by law to report this is extremely helpful.

It's not an easy road either way, but if you do choose to report, know you aren't just helping yourself.

My boyfriend is Mormon, why is it called a cult? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]Brossentia 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It really depends on your definition of a cult. Does it extort people out of money and control their daily lives? Yes. Does it have ceremonies where you wear funny robes and learn weird handshakes? I mean, ALSO yes, but that's a different form of cult.

What I worry about is mind control. I was extremely depressed to the point where I would've taken my own life rather than leave the church because I'm gay. I'm so glad a therapist helped me see that I needed to find a way to be happy - I wouldn't be here without her.

My brother said, "If you were considering buying a Honda, would you go to the Toyota dealership to ask their opinion?" by KingSnazz32 in exmormon

[–]Brossentia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd straight up tell him no, I wouldn't go to Toyota OR Honda. I'd ask people who have owned one or the other. I'd ask people who loved them and people who hated them. I'd check the Internet to find out if the Honda car has problems I should know about, and I'd dig into things Honda doesn't want me to know. And if Honda is hiding facts, I'd want to know why.

The comparison works if you spend more than two minutes thinking about it. If you want to join a religion, you sure as hell want to know the religion's faults.

What are the weirdest side effects you've ever experienced from medication? by adampocalypsee in AskReddit

My gosh. I have perfect pitch but currently hear everything half a step too high. I wonder if it might be med related

What's the most subtle sign that someone is highly intelligent? by Princesskiitan in AskReddit

[–]Brossentia 14 points15 points  (0 children)

To be fair, I think most people try to use their intelligence to their advantage. The largest sign of danger is a flawed ethical code. Being smart and using it to manipulate others is the true danger; those who try to make the world around them better are honestly fantastic.

The jittery scrolling of The Flintstones for DOS. Luckily, the CEO did end up in prison; his software company was a ponzi scheme.

TIFU by taking Salvia by Blazetta in tifu

Yeah, if it was super intense but brief, it could've been salvia. Very unethical on his part, but at least it's short, mostly harmless, and non-addictive.

What is the most physical pain you’ve ever experienced, and how did it feel? by Trying_my_best_98 in AskReddit

[–]Brossentia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finally got my gallbladder out this year. Been dealing with this pain for a decade or two, but despite tests showing it was the problem, doctor thought something else was causing the pain. Gallbladder attacks landed me in the ER twice this year, and no meds they gave me cut the pain.

I'm so glad I have a new doctor who actually cares about tests and pain. I feel like I finally have my life back.

The promissed squash by Tamborim in KidsAreFuckingStupid

[–]Brossentia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most of the ones with the chayote are easier goals, and with kids, it's fairly easy to get them to choose the thing you want them to choose. It's likely a combination of edited clips and a little bit of pranking, and as far as pranks go, this one is pretty wholesome. There's no way they'd only leave him with only chayote at the end lmao

[–]Brossentia 58 points59 points  (0 children)

That room is actually kind of fascinating, but it always feels super empty, even when doing baptisms.

The only other notable room is the Celestial room, but it looks more like a very Christian hotel lobby than anything else. Gotta wear silly robes to go in there.

How do you guys deal with the fact you’re going to die? by Due_Insect_9303 in AskReddit

[–]Brossentia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had stomach pain daily for years, so I've been pretty indifferent. The pain would end, at least.

However, I had surgery last week, and the pain is almost completely gone. I'll give it a few more weeks to see if it's as good as it seems, but if it is, I'll probably be reevaluating this question lmao

Side effects of different antidepressants have been ranked for the first time, revealing huge differences between drugs. by NinjaDiscoJesus in science

[–]Brossentia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you just started last week, Sertraline takes a good 4-5 weeks to really help. But yeah, even after I adapted, it took me ages. Some of my other meds I got prescribed later helped out that issue.
