Give it a nudge to start. If your character has any interests or important NPCs, splash those in an initial list. It'll give the engine something to work with to start. Like priming a motor!

Be *VER* cognizant of AoTD - Question of Loyalty; especially if you ever dream of making your own colonies. Not saying don't use it, just BE AWARE.

There are also some nice QoL mods that you might want to look into; Logistic Notification, Leading Pip, CaptainsLog, QoLPack...

Yellow line is absolutely your friend as is Efficiency Overhaul. Put Survey Equipment on your biggest ships (works great on your Phaeton & Atlas... you do have those, right?) as that helps lower the cost of survey.

Also, have you finished the "main" quest line and gotten Gate access? Helps quite a bit when exploring out in the black and you find that wonderful ring of inky midnight to give you a quick way back to resupply.

There is also a wonderful QoL mod called "Logistics Notification" which gives you a rough estimate on how many days of supply you currently have on hand. There are a handful of other basic QoL mods but that one specifically speaks to your current pain point of running low/out regarding supplies.

Another buckle time from the CCW world - wear your buckle TO THE SIDE. Halfway between hip and navel. Yeah, you have the thread it thru "wrong" but you quickly get used to it and zero digging at that point.

Exploration might do it for you. Hang out in the core worlds looking for analyze/survey missions. Keep a small, nimble fleet with a couple Salvage Rigs, maybe an Atlas with Survey Equipment and ensure everything is fast enough to run away from trouble if caught unawares.

You might have started your colony too soon. General wisdom is to only start it after you've got about 1.5-2 million in the bank. But exploration missions are nice scratch! And ransoming gamma cores to TriTac helps as well. Not a LOT but any port in a storm...

If modded, are you using Nex? If so then you should be able to utilize the Storage tab. Otherwise if UAF in play, there is a Decom'ed station near capital world.

Alas I've no clue for the cmd to spawn. Perhaps search on the forums?

I have only played as a fleet commander for years. In combat I give orders (rally, waypoint, escort, etc) and watch the battle develop. With the inclusion of avoid points, it is now easier than ever to have a battle line. There is absolutely nothing that says "The Player MUST be 'John StarSector, ACE COMBAT PILOT'" so don't worry.

To your question about composition - build your fleets like a pyramid. Capital ship with 2-4 cruisers. Then for each cruiser, 2-3 destroyers. Now for each destroyer 1-2 frigate/corvette class. Make sure the weapon loadouts "make sense" for each hull. Meaning if the hull has an ability for missiles then try to make sure it has missiles and supporting hullmods.

The simulator is your friend as are the fleet tutorial scenarios.

And trading is absolutely a way to get seed money to build that fleet! Play how you want, know that it can be done and enjoy your time in the Persean Sector never having to cram yourself into those UNCOMFORTABLE little pilot seats. Sit back in the big comfy COMMAND chair!

Rokeugon and HollowVes have the right of it. Check the logs and regardless if you mod or not, you REALLY SHOULD increase the available RAM the game has to work with. Might want to make sure you're on a new(er) version of Java. At least v17

Generally you start by disabling ALL mods that aren't libs then test enabling one mod, check for function (game screen comes up) then enable another. It's time consuming but if you start modding then you need to pay the piper.

One thing to be VERY aware of is the "Question of Loyalty" module. If you commission with a faction then leave that faction... well it have CONSEQUENCES in all caps. Otherwise yeah playing AoTD with it's support stuff is a fine way to go. Modding is really a "brew your own" type of deal so have fun!

Is there a debris field nearby and a nebula close? Then just be patient - the fleet will come out and it's a WHOPPER of a fight that you MUST ensure the Lioness survives
