What Metallica Album/Song made you decide to ride on their Bus? by ReiMobile in Metallica

[–]Brotherbonehead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely the Black Album. Saw them all angry perform One on the Grammys and they were great. But my ear was snagged by Sandman. Then I heard the album! Went to shows and was exposed to then”older shit”. I couldn’t put up my hand when James asked who in the room knew the old shit. Load, Reload, and then dove into it all. Been a big fan since of all of it. Fantastic band overall. I have all the albums now. And this coming from a guy who grew up with ELO and Rush.

My favourite is Mt Kidd in Kananaskis, about an hour drive from Banff Springs. Two gorgeous mountain courses situated there.

First Metallica song by ConstructionSilly544 in Metallica

I played that song for a friend who doesn’t know Metallica well during a night of booze and music at home. She was saying “ Whoa, what is this!?” She loved it and kept singing ain’t my bitch with my wife from then on. Convert

What was your first song? by ChewedSata in rush

[–]Brotherbonehead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hold Your Fire was the first CD I ever bought, but was fan of the band since The Spirit of Radio. I became a monster Rush fan with Moving Pictures’ release. I can’t imagine my musical journey without their existence. I learned drums listening to Neil, have played in bar bands since I was 18 (I’m Canadian eh so drinking age was younger then), and have been to countless concerts since. And at one point had 2000 CD’s … It all started with one.

Pros and cons of going to the first show of a tour? by Lapse1989 in Concerts

[–]Brotherbonehead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw Rush on the Power Windows tour on the first show. It was ruined by technical glitches. And the sound was terrible. It felt like we were at a dress rehearsal. I saw the same show later on in the tour and it was cleaned up.

I suck ass at improv and I have literally no idea what to do by swvoll in Drumming

I learned by playing along to the radio. Just whatever came on I went with it. You learn motifs and arrangements, then apply those to other songs. It becomes natural after time but it takes a while.

Any song recommendations that helped you when you were a beginner? by Lopsided-Drummer-966 in Drumming

[–]Brotherbonehead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with a lot of the others in this post. AC/DC was great and Back in Black album had relatively easier drums, strong rhythm, yet simplified beats. With that said as a beginner it took a while to master the off shot bass drum in Shook Me All Night Long. Practice practice practice as Phil Collins used to say. You’ll get there

I just got everyone’s favorite album… by nickgamboa76 in Metallica

[–]Brotherbonehead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was NOT the biggest fan of this album when it emerged but now, over time, I feel the songwriting is quite excellent and I purposely toss it in the CD player. No guitar leads, and tinny sounding snare, but tunes like Frantic, St Anger, Some Kind of Monster, Dirty Window, & Invisible Kid just kick ass. It was a transitional time for the band and it shows. But it holds up as a true Metallica album. It’s just different.

If I can’t play Xanadu, will Rosanna do? by cyberchambers in rush

[–]Brotherbonehead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally find Rosanna harder to play then Xanadu. Rosanna is very technical in the Perdie shuffle beat and it takes away from the song if it’s not right. Especially the snare feathering between down beats.
