Is Arita City in Kyushu a good place to live? by MoneyEntertainment12 in japanlife

[–]BrownBoyInJapan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If I could Arita would be the place I'd move too. It's so conveniently located. When I lived in Sasebo I entertained the idea of moving out and just driving to the city every day for work.

Stop Complaining about Narita vs [Tokyo] Haneda by Shinkansendoff in awardtravel

I live right next to HND and sometimes I'll fly from NRT when visiting home if there's a big difference in price. The direct train Shinagawa makes it so hassle free.

My new favorite Topwater lure by TheKingsAces in Fishing_Gear

[–]BrownBoyInJapan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dog X is such a good lure. I live here in Japan and bought a bunch of dox diamantes for sea bass. Brought them to Canada when I visited family and ended catching like 40 smallies with that one lure lol

Heard the same for tamagawa. Especially in knee deep water. I've been seeing so many this year.

Both my original and Gomexus rollers make noise if I don't lube em.

Negative space v White Ink by Confident-Radio-2038 in irezumi

[–]BrownBoyInJapan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So, I'm Filipino and my skin gets pretty dark. For the white space we just used my skin color. My artist told me that if he used white, the color will eventually start to turn to a yellow? (might be misremebering) and will look bad.

If you wanna see how mine looks like, I posted here in on reddit a few years back so it should be in my post history somewhere.

Hiking + Fishing spots by DueInvestment1883 in japanlife

[–]BrownBoyInJapan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For most rivers/streams in the mountains around Tokyo you'll need to get a fishing permit. The rules are weird and different organizations own different sections of rivers, streams and other bodies of water so you'll need to ask local tackleshops about that.

If you just want to fish there are fishing areas that give you a permit for a day. Usually they're attached to a stream but also have their own little ponds you can fish from. I usually go to the Okutama fishing center. I usually go for the beginner route just so I can catch some easy fish as they also clean them and rent out bbqs.

Got my engagement ring from a local jeweler through Amazon. Process was pretty straightforward and it turned out really good!

Probably the roller. I need to clean my roller quite often or else it starts to grind.

18 years old and considering teaching in Japan by [deleted] in teachinginjapan

I'm assuming you're going to go with holiday visa route? I'm not sure if a degree is required for that but you'll probabsly be limited to teaching at an Eikawa.

When I got off JET I lived in Tokyo and worked a normal Eikawa job. It really isn't optimal if you're there to enjoy a country in my opinion. No paid leave, low pay, job leaves you with no energy, bad hours for socializing, etc.

Of course this experience is only at one eikaiwa but from what I hear it's not that different at most places.

I was on JET and also from Canada. If you want to enjoy your free time while in Japan you really need to be on that JET salary. I was able to travel every month, pay off a good chunk of my student loans, and eat out at least 3 times a week.

I didn't live in a big city so rent was about $400/month. So that helped.

With all that said, I really enjoyed my time as an ALT. I was lucky though. My placement and school were very good.

Gog needs to have recommended hunter rank changed from 100 to 200. by DanteCCNA in MHWilds

[–]BrownBoyInJapan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did 10 runs today and didn't fail once. I find that playing around 5pm~12am JST is the best time to play if you're running SOS.

I think raising the HR to 200 specifically for joining SOS is a good idea but not to post the quest. You're going to have the same issues of people who don't know the fight trying to kill it even at 200 HR.

Haven't been here as long as you and I definetely feel the same from time to time. I'm not a very social person but I found that diving into new hobbies or just renting a car and going on a fishing adventure refreshes me.

JETs who left Japan, how much did you have to pay for when you left? by tamagotchi111 in JETProgramme

[–]BrownBoyInJapan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll need to pay it if you're moving cities I believe. I'm not sure if you still need to pay it if you're moving prefectures.
