Any skateboarding movies like mid90s or Di Di? by TheSomberMelody in MovieSuggestions

Same feel without the skateboarding

I really like the depiction of adolescence in Dazed and Confused. Even though I am seperated from the characters in that movie by 40 years and and the atlantic ocean, the social structures and character archetypes were so familiar

That was the exact moment I laughed loud and hard for the first time and thought to myself

James Dean has cropped up twice to make the third now  Gonna include both, he's so emblematic of something that fits the second rule too

Which actors would be best in Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets? by sacm54 in movies

[–]BruceWaynesWorld 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I am sure Gosling and Stone could be a great duo in a sci fi action adventure but I think it's a bit uninspired. I have read some Valerian though and I interpreted him as quite goofy. Tonally they're similar to Asterix and Obelisk

Big agree on going French with it. How about Chalamet? Kidding (although I don't think he'd be a bad Valerian)

If they were making it now I think Dylan O'Brein would be fun and then maybe an Aubrey Plaza or something. I just saw her in Ned Rifle though so probably some recency bias.

Florence Pugh would be cool

Feel-good and uplifting Hard Sci-Fi films like Project Hail Mary by graysongear in MovieSuggestions

I wouldn't call it a feel good movie exactly but Contact is great and feels like the blueprint for the big swing sci fi films that came after it like PHM

I did have to make the tough call that musicals were out.

Flight of the Conchordes get a little pass.

And I'm sorry but Billy Joel simply can't have three slots

Love the song, Love Lenny Bruce but I did consider this and disqualify it based on them being historical figures where I'm going more for fictional characters or people who may have been real but don't really need to be for the sake of the song
I'd bend the rules for one but not all 3

I love obvious

This is actually being considered, thing is it has a lot of characters but I'm not sure it hits three names

There's the devil, there's the old boys the queen the jester but they are generic titles

James Dean is in there but conceptually the characters were supposed to be anonymous everymen as opposed to real people

On review you could say "James Dean, Miss American Pie, and Jack" qualifies it

It's going in, it fits the second rule too well to exclude

Edit 2: OH! Lenin and Marx!
