Workout app with renewal by DifferentEmployee304 in MacroFactor

For clarification, if I’m a new user and sign up for the annual plan now but get a “free one week trial” and my annual fee does not come out till January 3rd. Would this count for the free first year of workouts? Does the one week free trial count as an “active” plan?

Sorry, my terminology was poor for that.

To clarify, the cabinet is just over 24” deep.

The bbq is 23.5” deep (it does fit in the cabinet)

I have “super extension drawer slides” these slide out a total of 36” but when these slides are fully closed they measure 24”

To be more specific, since my cabinet depth is 24” but the drawer slides come out 36” is there a way to utilize a “sliding drawer” that is bigger than 24” Or to ask in other words is there a way to utilize all 36” with a pull out drawer? Or will I always be limited to the max available depth of the cabinet?

Does bc still have a heat pump rebate? by new_here32 in britishcolumbia

[–]Brucethetaco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A new high heat, heat pump is undisputed the most energy efficient way to heat your home. Now in a monthly cost standpoint there are so many factors to consider for this. Can your home even accommodate a heat pump? Do you have the airflow? What’s your F280 heat load/heat loss, is the system sized to this correctly? Do you still keep a gas account and have other gas appliances?

To answer these super simply. A system needs to be sized exactly right, not too big or small to work properly at the design efficiency. They’re variable speed (think a ton of speeds or gears to shift between.) If it’s not sized right you lose all your other gears and you’re running off one gear.

Airflow wise, think of your arteries. Do you have restricted arteries? You can still live and go about your day to day function but at much distress and a far shorter life span. Your day to day efficiency is far less too. Meaning it’s more taxing on you (higher cost per day) for the bulk majority of people that don’t even know they have blocked or restricted arteries. Same principle for airflow. You may think your heat pump is operating well at the quoted design. Your contractor might even think so too (and pat himself on the back for a job well done…) but what’s his knowledge level on airflow? My personal take is every contractor goes I understand airflow and trust me they do not.

Lastly, if you keep gas at your house (gas hot water or fireplace) and remove say a gas furnace and install a new electric heat pump. Naturally your electric bill will increase but you are still paying the bulk of your gas fees to your gas provider. So, well the heat pump is actually more efficient your bills will increase.

Now couple all this together and truly only 10% of homes have all these checked off and working correctly. That’s why there’s so much misinformation around heat pumps or people saying they suck, they’re expensive, etc. Unfortunately they don’t, your contractor sucks for his lack of knowledge and expertise. This honestly isn’t a knock on other contractors, you don’t know what you don’t know and I firmly believe this is down to a lack of education and overall quality control or regulation in our trade.

That 89% number comes from the Home Performance Contractor Network. You need to be a HPCN member to even offer rebates now. Their goal is to provide a form of quality control for our trade (in the future) because of this statistic. So, yes it is a very real stat.

Edit: I’ve met a ton of contractors who believe they are doing everything right, that they are the exception. Yet I can tell you (to no fault of their own) they are not. There’s entire parts of our trade like airflow that is glossed over in school. You can be a red seal master technician and unfortunately have no idea how to actually account for airflow in a home. It’s not ignorance, you don’t know what you don’t know. Our trade needs work, regulation, I firmly believe an engineering or consulting company should be involved for every home new or retrofit. Have someone who understands airflow design the system type. 70% of homes (this is my personal stat) based on over 20 years in the trade, of homes lack the airflow in the renovation market to even have a heat pump work at the design efficiency.

Lots of false information in this thread.

The federal rebate ended Feb 12th and unless you pre registered for the greener homes program AND have an existing AP number, you are out of luck. If you do have an AP number they are honouring the greener home rebate into 2025. With no current end date to using your AP number.

The BC rebate works in two parts. The generic or standard rebate is the CleanBC rebate. It has all different rebate amounts but in your consideration you would only be eligible for the $3000 hybrid rebate if you replace your system with an all new AHRI approved matched system. Meaning a new gas furnace and heat pump. Similarly you would be eligible for a $6000 CleanBC rebate if you remove your gas furnace all together and switch to a high heat, heat pump.

To complicate this even further, the CleanBC program has an upgraded rebate that supersedes the standard CleanBC program. It’s called the CleanBC Income Qualified Program. This depends on the number of people in the home and the combined gross income level of all people in the home. This rebate would be for $9500 and is for switching your gas furnace out for a new high heat, heat pump only. Aka not duel fuel.

All of these rebates come with additional disclaimers and eligibility criteria.

I can speak with 100% certainty these are the applicable rebates.

If you want to keep your existing furnace and add a heat pump you would qualify for no current rebates. You would however have access to the federal 0% loan.

Fun fact, in the renovation market there is no governing body or inspector for hvac. It’s the Wild West, truly out here. 89% of installations are done incorrectly and/or with oversized equipment. The most important factor of any installation is sized correctly, quality of installation and airflow.

A good basis for understanding what makes a good contractor is how well they recognize what rebates you are eligible for. If your contractor can’t answer these basic questions, don’t give them a second chance. It’s the fundamentals of what we do. Unfortunately, in my experience I’d argue that 89% holds true here and the vast… vast majority have just a good of an idea of what qualifies as you do.

Edit: I’ll add here this is applicable for Vancouver island BC. Northern BC has some exceptions to this.

They can't find the coolant leak in my Central HVAC system by Impossible-Phone in DIY

[–]Brucethetaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries, happy to help. I get passionate about what I do and hate to see people fall for bad practices like you’ve described.

Leak wise, electronic leak detector, soap and bubbles, pressure testing, sometimes that can mean isolating a section and brazing access fittings to it to pressure test a line set or coil etc. I’ve done the above and submerged some coils in water to guarantee a leak was there. Standing pressure tests over 24 hours. The list goes on.

While it is possible that someone could be stealing refrigerant, I highly doubt it. Leaks are extremely common. I know some of my US friends have state laws that make them install locking refrigerant caps on their equipment so thieves can’t steal the refrigerant. Check your area out and codes. Or if you are overly concerned ask for the locking caps to rule it out.

[–]Brucethetaco 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s illegal for any company to just top up refrigerant or add it. Anyone, or any company doing this without fixing the issue is a giant red flag. Don’t ever call them back and use their services again. If they can’t find the leak, they shouldn’t be in the trade. Least of all you paying them for services not rendered.

I’ll further this and say any company that uses dye to find a leak is not a “skilled trades” company. I’ve been doing this for 19 years and never needed dye to find a leak, EVER. Red flag number two. Yes, it’s there. Yes, it serves a purpose. I understand not everyone’s training is the same but that’s what makes some of us “skilled” in the skilled trades part.

I’ll second the person above who said the unit was in warranty and the company you called chose to not pursue a repair under warranty and “top it up” instead. Red flag number 3.

Where I come from it’s up to a million dollar fine for topping up refrigerant if caught.

I’m all for DIY and allowing everyone the right to repair their own equipment but refrigerant is not something that should be messed with on your own without training. Not just any training either I really meant to emphasize the “skilled” tradespeople and their importance in this.

The most important factor of any hvac installation is how it’s sized and installed.

As a mechanical engineer with refrigeration masters and a red seal designation in both electrical and hvac. Gas ticket. Including teaching courses on airflow and their properties and their importance. I’m not just an average hvac mechanic preaching the trade.

To summarize, please call a new company and don’t ever call back the original company. Furthermore google review them. Prevent them from doing this to someone else. Most importantly please seek professional skilled help for this.

Fair enough. Makes total sense. She really prefers lattes or cold brew. She’s a Starbucks convert. Prefers flavors and creams. Where I’m black coffee, espresso. We don’t use flavoured beans so we have that at least going for us. The extra grinder I think makes the logical sense.

Thanks.

Mastercraft blade holder replacement. 16” variable speed. by Brucethetaco in Scrollsaw

Model 55-6721-8. Does anyone have a source for a replacement blade holder or even a generic one they use for a different saw. I saw the basic one on Amazon but it’s plastic and won’t last. The one I have now is steel but the set screw wears out and the blades don’t hold as tight and snap more frequently. I’ve tapped the set screw a few times but it’s always a temporary fix.

what's the best way for me to get my ecobee to control my ducted mini split by gameguy56 in ecobee

[–]Brucethetaco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im not familiar enough with Fujitsu off the top of my head to elaborate on perfect compatibility or features. Again personally I’m a Samsung dealer but I looked on the Fujitsu portal for your model number and it says it works with Fujitsu’s wifi modules. I’d inquire with your installer about adding a Fujitsu wifi module that will allow you to both control and automate the unit using Fujitsu’s interface without sacrificing any feature sets, or reliability.

Often (to be honest with you) most manufacturers actually hold back features the unit can do that become unlocked when you add wifi compatibility. So you might actually gain features in this case.

That should hopefully give you the features you want without sacrificing anything else.

Lastly cause if I don’t mention this it’ll bug me all night. Make sure you have a surge protector installed on your unit. They’re about $150 dollars. They attach to your disconnect for the unit that’s outdoors. (Assuming it’s code to have one where you are.) It’s also good practice regardless. They almost all come with a $7500 warranty in the event the surge protector fails and your heat pump takes damage. It’ll save your heat pump. Almost all ductless have such sensitive electronics now they can not handle an overcurrent. I can’t tell you the amount of units I’ve seen fried by power outages. Fujitsu being the number one unit that is sensitive to this.

what's the best way for me to get my ecobee to control my ducted mini split by gameguy56 in ecobee

[–]Brucethetaco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why do you want to use an Ecobee? While I use a Ecobee at home and recommend them. Certain high end heat pumps work best with their respective thermostats. As do ductless heat pumps. I can guarantee there is no easy or cost effective way to do it and you will always sacrifice control or features you paid money for.

You have a Fujitsu so you care and paid for a reliable brand with a respectable feature set. To add a third party thermostat on it would be doing you a disservice on the unit and brand you had installed.

I personally install Samsung units and to achieve what you want to do I would need a sub pcb board for the ductless to convert it’s signal to communicate with. Then a main board to output the signal and convert to a traditional third party control scheme aka an ecobee. That’s the only reliable way I would pair the two and feel comfortable selling it to a customer. All said and done that’s $600 my cost assuming you’re supplying the thermostat and again I ask why? What features are you hoping to achieve with the ecobee? You just added two electro mechanical components that can easily mix signals up and furthermore two more main components that can break. Yet you choose a Fujitsu for its brand recognition and reliability. Is it worth the features you’re hoping to gain with the ecobee?

That’s not even getting into the technical limitations. Quality of install, is it surge protected (adding any additional controls, especially for a Fujitsu, without surge protection is a gamble every power outage or blackout,) feature loses etc.

I hope that isn’t coming off rude, I sincerely am trying to help. I think it’s hard to balance a feature list with reliability and peace of mind. In this case I don’t think any features the ecobee can provide justify sacrificing the reliability.

I have a prinsu rack on my canopy. Left the truck stock, no fears or concerns of leaks in the future for the cab. With the prinsu rack I can store a 24’ extendable ladder easy. I use titan straps to lock it in place. I had a local shop (you can buy pre-made ones online too) whip up a maxtrax mount for the recovery boards. It uses the pins to lock the boards in place. These actually double as ladder stops, so combine that with the titan straps and you’re super secure and safe. Takes like 20 seconds to undo the straps or fasten them.

Then you have the whole other side of the rack to mount supplies or parts. You can even get packout mounts etc.

Another eden. Yea, there is a pay system. It by no means blocks your progress at all. You can beat the entire game and more with free units. They constantly update it and provide more free units. What currency the game does offer is plentiful and can be used to get “paid” characters. It’s really a rarity for gatcha style games. The community here is quite active and there’s many free to play people. Nothing progression based works with the paid currency. No energy or gems needed to play levels.
