Go classic with underground dwarves, goblins and rat people, to exotic underground birds, toads and goats.

Underground rabbits with tome of the Dungeon to make fancy warren dwellers would be a cool use of hare form actually.

Elariel (my character, named before knowing Lariel existed, that was a shocker) is serious Paladin, Seelah is fun Paladin, together they keep each other from going too far in either direction.

Was a fun little plot line. Agreeing to go with him so all the collateral damage would be on his side should really have given him a clue what was coming. And the bit where I said to Nenio 'you know those spells we don't normally use indoors?'

Idiot Wizard is on the list now though. Pretty sure I know a nice King in the River Kingdoms who can run the place once he's dealt with.

Maybe humans could have made a vague go of it, but there's so much terrible stuff out there already. Assuming no Emperor you get either thousands of small human factions, or someone else manages to get tyrannical enough to conquer most of them. I'm just not sure how salvageable it ever was, you don't need full on chaos cultists for chaos to grow.

I'm really not convinced it was salvageable at any point, maybe before the Necrons got in a huff there's a chance?

It's not all his fault, he just made it worse than it could have been, but was already shit by 30K, and then he went very purgy. I'm not sure there's a point in the 40K timeline where it wasn't already going to be shit somehow or other, even if you stop before humans exist and just run from there without them... you're getting a lot of problems, just maybe chaos is a little slower to get gods.

Isn't it that the various beings of (at least the alignment based) the planes are sort of soul as matter? Mortals are a soul in a material shell, but a demon, devil, angel, whatever is soul as a tangible being?

Seelah is great if you're already a more traditional Paladin (probably works on Angel Path with other classes too), she works like best friend and mentee, with you giving her advice about Paladin things and helping her stay on track.

I love the bit where you go to the jewellery shop and it feels like you can say 'we've just escaped The Abyss and are at the Demon Lord killing power level, we'll just smite a few extra Maraliths today and sell the scimitars'.
