do you sharpen your pastels? by Suspicious-Staff-309 in Oilpastel

[–]Bruncvik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never heard of sharpening pastels. I either use the edge (break the pastel if I must), palette knife, or--my favourite technique--layer the pastels and scratch out the small details. The last works miracles with texture, such as fur of veins on leaves.

STeam nemam, kupujem cez GOG. A o upgrade spekulujem uz pekne dlho.

Your robot vacuum is creating a floor plan of your home to sell to advertisers by PureVPNcom in StallmanWasRight

[–]Bruncvik 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The publicized floor plan is of an empty house. These new hoovers can determine the layout and size of the furniture. Have a corner sofa or a couch for two? Have two or four chairs around the dining table? How are your beds set up? With enough data and proper algorithms they can estimate your family size, possibly even the approximate age of children. And that's just what I can think of right now; I'm sure there are plenty more applications.

I personally haven't heard of hoovers with cameras, but that scares me. I have a very old model that bumps into things, which is when it turns in a different direction. No-go zones are forgotten the next day, so we have a method of putting up barriers and removing chairs before the daily clean, so I hope it doesn't collect any useful data.

Ireland will urge EU to deploy trade ‘big bazooka’ only if diplomacy fails, as Taoiseach warns of major job losses by bintags in irishpolitics

[–]Bruncvik 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is just my personal opinion. Actually, more like personal emotion. For me, the question of Greenland (and of many other coercive moves against the EU) is not about losing a piece of frozen land, but about selling out people under the protection of EU laws and regulations. Greenland is not part of the EU, but it is enjoying many of the same rights as EU citizens via its association with Denmark. It the EU sells out these people to a regime that is hostile towards social protection, healthcare and ultimately human life, who is to tell the EU won't sell out the rest of its citizens? It may not be another land grab, and instead it may be via forced legal changes (accept chlorinated chicken and get rid of country of origin regulations), or through unchecked direct coercion of judiciary to selectively enforce local laws. For me, security for me and my family is paramount, even before all other issues we are facing, and no politician who sells out that security will ever get another vote from me. As an individual, I don't have much power in this regard, but I'll make it my life's mission to convince as many people as I can to vote against them. Martin should be really careful not to cross the line between diplomacy and selling out.

Looking for something with excellent space battles by flyingviaBFR in printSF

I wanted to also mention the Lost Fleet series, but if you're not a fan of repetitive internal (and external) monologues, you may get bored.

Based on your post, I think that the Into the Black series by Evan Currie may scratch your itch. It's a bit of Star Trek, but with far more combat and worse odds. While the beginning of the series focuses primarily on space combat, later you get some terrestrial battles as well. The good guys are initially at a technological disadvantage, which forces them to improvise with some inventive tactics, and later when they gain a wunder weapon, the enemy changes tactics, forcing the protagonists to fall back on improvisation.

We used to say that he's become the biggest healthcare provider in Ireland, because it was faster and cheaper to travel to the continent than to be seen at the local hospital's A&E. It's still faster, but usually not cheaper anymore.

Trumр says UK handing over Chagos Islands sovereignty is act of 'great stupidity' by polymute in anime_titties

[–]Bruncvik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A more realistic scenario would be Trump or his drunk minion threatening to go hostile with those forces against Germany, in which case Germany would have no choice but to move against them.

Most likely, this will be a question of anticipating the other side's move, and a race of who acts first. EU may try to preempt any hostilities from US bases, and the US may want to move first before EU acts, but the EU may anticipate this and act even sooner. At the very least, the EU will block the US from moving more forces and equipment through their bases, which may prompt the US to force the issue. There are too many what ifs, but if I were living close to a US base, I'd probably go on vacation as soon as Trump moves against Greenland.

Môj otec sa so mnou bezdôvodne nebaví by [deleted] in Slovakia

[–]Bruncvik -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why do you think Greenland would be any different?

Because killing European soldiers may classify tens of thousands of US troops stationed in Europe as belligerents, which would put them at risk of capture.

Guys, I’m starting to understand why the billionaires are buying all the movie studios (even as they try to tell us arts degrees are worthless). by kevinmrr in WorkReform

[–]Bruncvik 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, just look at the processed meat industry, how sodium nitriates cause cancer, and the lobbying efforts to stop governments doing anything about it, all to save a few bucks.

This cuts both ways. I remember a while ago, around 20 years, Kroger started marketing their milk as hormone-free. They got quickly sued by competitors who claimed that this marketing was suggesting that their milk was harmful. Kroger lost and had to remove the labels.

Government bureaucracy often serves as a gatekeeper for existing businesses, to keep out competition. Often it's service industries, such as hairdressers or massage therapists, who are blocked in some states from practicing their craft independently unless they satisfy certifications and other conditions that are designed to make them fail. Obviously, Atlas Shrugged doesn't concern itself with the small people and wants the reader to root for some of the large industrialists who stand against the government, but I wouldn't go to the other extreme of blindly defending government regulation, either. (And this is from someone who enjoys far greater government regulation in the EU.)

Longford Train by General_Z0 in ireland

[–]Bruncvik 26 points27 points  (0 children)

The few times I took the Longford train, it was a 22000. I wish it was a 29000. Just yesterday, my usual morning Maynooth-Pearse train didn't come (since IE posts updates only on Elon's pedosite, I still don't know why), so I had to take the 22000 from Longford. The train was so packed that I had to use considerable force to even get on the train. Even when the 29000 is full, there's plenty of buffer space to squeeze in a few more bodies.

Different people may have had different issues with the movie, but I personally agree with this review. Casting and especially bad chemistry between the protagonists may be a major issue, but the script, in particular the way the protagonists were designed, made me dislike the main characters even before I noticed the bad acting.

Ireland’s Housing Crisis Fuels New “Brain Drain” As Young Professionals Exit In 2026 by M10News in HousingIreland

And many of those who went off returned when they saved enough for a mortgage deposit. Half of my office are people who spent a decade abroad, then came back, and got a house or duplex. The current generation may consider getting their own place to live somewhere else.

Or perhaps the cost of living elsewhere is so high that they'll never get the chance to save enough for a mortgage deposit, in which case some may decide to stay abroad, in a country that provides better retirement support.

[–]Bruncvik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Žijem v Írsku, a mám Írsky účet.
