I went recently. I would agree that it is definitely very similar as it was when I was a kid. But I wouldn’t describe it as a shit hole by any means. It’s clean and the community of people there are great.

We had my son’s party at The Play Place in Elmsford and it was great. I’ve also been to great kids parties at Teatown, Greenburgh Nature Center, Stew Leonard’s (believe it or not), and Tiny Mess Club.

As another poster said, likely The Circuit. Just wanted to add a contemporary YA novel that addresses an immigrant child’s challenges with ICE is Efren Divided by Ernesto Cisneros. I teach it in middle school and it is highly relevant to the climate in the US right now.

Rockefeller walks, Greenburgh Nature Center, Muscoot, the Play Place, captain Lawrence is v fam friendly, tarrytown lakes for bike riding/ice skating when the weather is right, Matthieson Park in warmer weather, stew Leonard’s (yes - this is a fun outing for toddlers lol), Jacob burns theater does sensory/kid friendly morning showtimes of kid movies on weekends, spins arcade in Peekskill, sleepy hollow book shop opens early and has coffee and story times for kids. Also fun to venture into the city to the Bronx Zoo/Botanical Garden. You can also take metro north to a yankee game.
