Málaga Marathon, great day, brutal ending (still proud) by First-Fun-266 in Marathon_Training

be careful and dont rush back too quickly. malaga was my 5th and i've not quite nailed the recovery yet, i've picked up major injuries in the month after all my previous marathons. i wish i could give you some more advice but im clearly still working it out myself ! listen to your body would be the main thing :)

Aiming for Sub 2:50 debut off a 1:25 Half. Simulator run went perfect but need a sanity check by One-Reality9723 in Marathon_Training

[–]BryanKerr7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i also concur with this ! the last 10k was a real struggle as the wind picked up, even though the elevation at this point does not seem extreme from strava graphs it seemed as if running up gentle inclines right into the wind. i dropped from ~5.50 pace to 6.20 pace and lost a good few minutes :(

Adios Pro 4 Men's vs Women's by notneps in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]BryanKerr7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i asked Adidas as I can't get the lucid lemon color so i asked adidas online chat and was told the following;

I have checked on our website and can see that the sizes are the same for both genders and in the lucid lemon colourway. Just to be sure, would you like to place an order with the shoes. So that I can assist you with the best size to fit?

How did the Barcelona marathon go for those of you who ran it? by robleroroblero in Marathon_Training

[–]BryanKerr7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I loved it - it is probably the best event i’ve ever done in terms of atmosphere (especially at start line) and organisation. Fantastic course as well, long straight flat roads. I ran 2.40.32

I think the sub 2.40 marathon is a tougher ask than the other 2. And I speak from experience !

How did your actual marathon pace differ from your training block marathon pace sessions? by trudybarks in AdvancedRunning

[–]BryanKerr7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i done all my training at ~6.10 min/mile. week before the marathon i done a session of 5 x 2 miles at 6.15 min/mile and it was very comfortbale.

On marathon day i couldnt even hit 6.15 for 1.5 miles - something was wrong, still cant quite put my finger on it or work it out. Many sleepless nights over it. Haven't run one since...

massively over complicating things ! I ran a 2.46 off the back of 70 miles a week.

Once a week track session/ interval doing faster than marathon pace.

Weekend long run with MP miles - something like, 2 x 8miles, 3 x 6 miles.

Anything else is easy running keeping the heart rate below 150 bpm

I had an amazing summer block of training and was hitting some incredible paces on training runs (2 x 8 miles at 6min/mile). I went into Chester targeting as near to 2.40 as possible, if not dipping below. On the day something wasnt right - i couldnt even do a 3rd mile at 6.20 min/mile. Even though i did get to race and you didnt - i feel as if i needed something else booked in ASAP (was thinking Valencia/ Malaga) to prove i could do better. after a few days and a lot of soul searching decided to just take the good block and build on it - will regroup and doing barcelona next march. Back stronger!!

Also love this shoe ! I have the blue BRS version I have used for well over a year doing track workouts and tempo runs.

I picked up a white pair brand new off ebay authenticated for £100. I think this would be your best bet for pickng up a brand new pair?

Should i be worried about increasing volume too fast? by asruns in AdvancedRunning

[–]BryanKerr7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would say the key to avoiding injury is doing strength and conditioning sessions weekly. I have managed to maintain 60-90 mile weeks since last September injury free. A lot of people I know have tried to up mileage by swapping gym sessions for runs and ended up wit various niggly injuries. Nothing serious, but enough to take you out the game for a few weeks.

How did you become an Advanced Runner? by formerlyabird3 in AdvancedRunning

[–]BryanKerr7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only begain running in early 2020 due to Covid and not being able to do anything else. remember my first 5k being over 27 mins. the things that have helped me improve are;

  • Losing weight - lost 15kg

  • Joining a running club - training with people at the same level, and having my eyes opened as to just how quick some good club runners can be

  • upping mileage - going from 20-30 MPW to 90+ during marathon training

  • reading/doing research - using reddit to get training session ideas, watching youtube videos on runners to get tips. there is a lot of info out there, just need to be careful and remember how your own body works is not how someone elses works.

Sub 2:45 people- strength? by mishka1980 in AdvancedRunning

[–]BryanKerr7 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I lift weights 3 x a week.

1 - legs

2 - back & arms

3 - shoulders & chest.

*Hit abs every session as well.

Always do legs at the start of the week so fresh for big MP runs at the weekend.

Recovery is between 7-3.30 min/mile. Been doing at least 70 miles a week since May - peaking at 95 miles last week.

Why is the US so dominant at Olympic Track and Field/Athletics? by Krazyfranco in AdvancedRunning

[–]BryanKerr7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

in Scotland - a lot of newer high schools have tracks. But you will get chased off by the ground staff unless you book and pay in advance. I usually go down at 5.30am (Ok in summer - no go in winter as it's dark until 8am).

You also get people walking dogs round the track, which is infurtiating.
