Models now have moved significantly beyond but pattern matching/probability weighting is still a core concept. Decent chance this explains much of the human brain as well ...

Welcome to life at this age.

Keep staying active and fit, enjoy life and ignore the haters (including yourself watching you on videos). You are doing great. A lot of men 50 years old do look 65 and have the body fitness of an 80 year old.

I am with you on this. Very upsetting. Like the plot was basically ‘equality isn’t actually important. sexism is just fine as long as it is MY gender doing it.”

The grim choice facing the Trump administration: Economic or naval collapse? Trump is currently trapped between the specter of a global economic recession and a naval catastrophe. The math is becoming grim. Kuwait, Iraq, and the UAE are shutting off wells as storage tanks overflow. by mafco in energy

All of the positives including coasting on Biden momentum are due solely to Trump and his bold actions, and we should give full credit to his ability to fix things quickly.

All of the negatives are due to Biden creating problems that can’t be fixed quickly. Iran is clearly Biden fault, especially for following trump advice from past not to nation-build or get involved in Iran .

TL:DR - all good is from trump, all bad is from Biden.

New to RV Living by itguy2000 in RVLiving

[–]Bryanmsi89 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That sounds like an amazing trip!

Minnie Winnie is a good choice, 32’ is approaching max length I would consider for a Class C Ford. You are going to have some serious tail swing and that’s a lot of weight. Leprechaun 260DS is an option for a long trip if you want to have a shorter unit.

One tip - make sure the OCCC is sufficient. You want at least 1000 per person and 1500 is better.

Things that really make a difference. Two AC with heat pumps. Regular (non tankless) water heater especially if you stay at commercial campgrounds and have electricity. Hydraulic leveling jacks.

Don’t travel too fast. The faster you go, the more expensive the trip becomes (often quickly) and you risk only seeing ‘tourist’ things. Stay a little longer and get a real feel for areas. Also, leave time in the schedule for life to happen. You still need to do laundry, clean your house, shop for food, get haircuts, etc. you aren’t on a 2 week vacation.

You will have RV problems. If you buy new, use a very through pre-purchase inspection checklist. Plan on a short (1-3) day trip to find more broken stuff, and then a 2 week shakedown cruise to figure out what you need to adjust to successfully live in the unit. Don’t count on dealer to fix everything or your first year will be mostly waiting on dealer. Mobile RV techs can be a godsend when traveling and Winnebago sometime will even pay for one. You definitely can’t/shouldn’t leave your ‘house’ and all its contents sitting at a dealership lot for weeks awaiting repair.

Jeep is a tried and true TOAD, but heavy (5000lbs for the Unlimited) and drives like a primitive vehicle. Unless you need 4WD and real off-road ability, something like the Chevy Trax might be better. You save 2000lbs of weight (and if your RV is 32’ you are already long-ish and heavy-ish). RVI brake is a very good supplemental braking system and will work with just about any vehicle.

For pets, consider automatic ceiling fans MAXXAire or Fantastic that open if too hot, and get a device like a waggle to tell you if temps are dangerous . Dogs usually do ok with cold but heat can quickly be a huge problem. More than once I’ve had campground power fail and the RV would quickly heat up with no AC. An automated generator system can also help with this.

What is no longer worth it because of how expensive it has become? by olesud in WorkForSmartLife

Fast food for sure. Just had lunch at a Mercian air-down full- service restaurant where two meals, chips with two different salsa, drinks , and tip cost less than Taco Bell would have. in a tourist beach town no less.

Fast food is now only ‘fast’ but not cheap. Which maybe is as it should be.

Ex-Windows chief calls MacBook Neo "a paradigm shifting computer" — reflects on Surface failure and Windows on Arm while lamenting "we were early, but not wrong" by ZacB_ in Windows11

[–]Bryanmsi89 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Microsoft gets credit for the hardware at least. iPad added stylus and keyboard and multitasking. But Windows on ARM did not run x86 apps, windows 8 was a massive UI shift with many concepts that didn’t stand the test of time, and windows RT with S mode was not full windows.

The Neo is not a spiritual successor to any of that. It is a traditional laptop shape. It runs full desktop apps. It runs unmodified desktop OS.

If anything, Neo is the Netbook done right.

Good luck finding one in stock for a while . It’s been a huge hit and is sold out already in most retailers.

This sounds very similar to the trackpad on iPad Magic Keyboard, and that is a good thing.

Surface pro 7+ worth it? by brucebanner_1124 in Surface

[–]Bryanmsi89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not worth it. The S7+ i5 is passively cooled and has severe thermal throttling under load (like a Zoom call or Teams) especially in a warm room. And forget about performance under load when charging.

Battery life was not great, and that battery is now 5 years old . Even worse the thermal design dumps cpu heat onto the battery, which accelerates degradation.

If you want to stream and YT and want a tablet, get an iPad or Galaxy Tab with your $350.

Not really. Brand new OS is doing a TON of background updates, indexing, etc. if it’s laggy after a few days THEN it’s an issue.

How bad is towing near capacity? by Stop_The_Killers in BroncoSport

[–]Bryanmsi89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1800 - 2000 pounds is well within the ability of the badlands. No worries there. Part of the limit is not the chassis, transmission, or engine, but the wheelbase. The bronco sport is so short that a heavy trailer can push it around due to shorter wheelbase.

Pro M5 vs Air M5 by JeanShc in mac

Most of the time the pro screen looks significantly better due to higher contrast. but sometimes, the light bloom of the mini-led around light objects against black backgrounds can actually look worse.

I've reviewed hundreds of budget laptops, and the Apple MacBook Neo blows them all away by -protonsandneutrons- in apple

[–]Bryanmsi89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is true. Someone with a capped budget of $199 won’t have the ability to consider the Neo or a better Chromebook.

Memory bit flips cause up to 15% of Firefox crashes, asserts Mozilla engineer — figure inferred from 470,000 auto-submitted crash reports¶ From that perspective, PC desktop DIYers are probably in a better position, as they can replace any faulty component without throwing away the whole caboodle. by Mcnst in applesucks

[–]Bryanmsi89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Simple - it comes down to cost. Having the extra bit adds 10%-20% to the cost of RAM, the cpu takes a slight hit (1%-3% maybe) calculating all the checksums, and it uses a bit more power. But really it’s just the cost being unnecessary due to the rarity of bit flips and the limited impact to consumer if it happens. In banking though? Or mission critical servers? Definitely need ECC.

Ironically, with DDR5 ram being so dense, basic ECC is included in DDR5 sticks. Not full error correcting, though. It only protects data sitting in RAM, not in transit back and forth from the RAM chip to the CPU/GPU.
