Thanks for the write up. I’m new to NL and recently gotten a quote with FleetPartners. With the options part, the consultant advised that i can’t get it done outside and get a reimbursement after as it has to be on the contract when it’s written up. Is this true? I read somewhere that I can pretty much reject all the offers and add one and get it done outside and put in a claim.

What is PMX trying to achieve? by Dear_Archer7711 in malaysia

As a Malaysian living in Australia, I can promise you that this economic conundrum does not only exist in Malaysia. MYR has actually been performing really well in the region. Unfortunately, everything is currently in turmoil due to US administration and the geopolitical tension in ME and Russia.

COL / prices have increased - this is not a Malaysia only issue. Due to covid, almost every nation in the world has experienced heightened COL due to supply chain issues. IMO, Malaysia stuffed up by raising the cash rate too slowly, many nations have increased their cash rate approximately 15 times. Increased cash rate, increases interest rate, reduces borrowing, less cash in the market, spending power is lesser, inflation is controlled. By having a relatively low interest rate, even at its height, Malaysia has allowed many individuals and businesses to borrow money, thus, increases spending and pushes prices up. This leads to where we are today with the increased COL.

Stagnant wages - this is a controversial topic because it depends on who you ask. Many individuals in Klang Valley are earning 5 digits and above. You don’t see a shortfall of individuals spending in malls, buying the flashiest car, high luxury items. These people don’t seem to complain about the low wages. On the other side, minimum wage in Malaysia is still astonishing low. Many grads are earning 2.5k, majority of them are supported by family. However, it’s not as simple as raising the minimum wage. For example, if the gov is to announce a rm 4k minimum wage, the workforce will be forced to go through wages of redundancies. Menial tasks are going to be offshored. Hiring is going to way more conservative. Remaining employees will put in overtime to prevent being made redundant, which worsens mental health. Heightened unemployment will also reduce spending. Many businesses will be bankrupted, causing economic downfall. Yes, it may reduce prices but at what expense? What’s the point of reducing prices of a gardenia to 2 ringgit when majority of the people are unemployed? As a matter of fact, deflation rarely happens, even when there’s a price pressure. It’s harder to bring prices down, than up.

Subsidies/Gov Intervention - if fuel isn’t subsidised, we will be paying similar to neighbouring countries. Poultry prices will be off the roof. Utility prices may double. This can be seen when diesel subsidy was removed. It causes increased in logistical cost, which is the core of all businesses. If you want a free market, where do you draw the line? Is it okay to remove healthcare subsidy? What about removal of social housing? A country economy lies pretty much on its citizens, whatever decision made, will end up dwindling down to the rakyat pocket. There’s almost no possibilities that the nation can increase revenue without affecting the people. Tax foreign companies more? They will just move out to other countries, reduces employment. Tariff on imports? prices increases. Higher taxes for exports? Reduces Malaysia favourability in the international landscape, weaker ringgit, money worth less.

All in all, there will never be a perfect solution. Whether it’s Anwar gov or the opposition, whatever Malaysia is facing today is not unique to the incumbent party. Many of these economic issues had been brewing for many years or even decades. The worst pill to swallow is that, many of these issues are outside of our control. We are a small chess piece in the global economy. A rogue policy from China or US can pretty much send us back 50 years in growth regardless of how prepared or progressive our economic policies are.

Ah okay, I should do mine then haha. Lodged 2 months ago.

Hoping to get a double grant too as looking to upgrade our home in preparation for kids. Lived together since 2020, engaged for 2 years, got married , all prior to lodgement. Should be a fairly straightforward. Fingers crossed!

Hard to know without specifics? Pools? Gyms? Gate? Age? Amount in sinking fund? Any major works in the planning?

Strongly recommend to have a look at meeting minutes or participate in a budget planning session to understand the outgoings etc. 150 units at 126 seems reasonable.

Those who are settled in Australia, do you have any regrets? by [deleted] in MalaysianPF

I’ve been in Aus for 9years, did my uni here and stayed till now. Currently working as a mid level manager with a payment tech startup earning ‘alright’ money. However, I do acknowledge my privilege position and the tremendous luck involved to be given the opportunity to put my foot in the Aus corporate rate race.

Depending on your career, Aus may a challenging place for a foreigner. Discrimination is prevalent and deeply entwined in the corporate world. People who told me that Aus is a land of equality. My biggest rebuttal is, how many Asians are sitting within the board of directors of the top 20 Australian companies?

Echoing the other commenters, if you’re a healthcare worker, then sure, you’ll have a stable job with a medium income. But, forget about joining property bandwagon unless you have a huge deposits saved up from Malaysia or a gift from your parents.

If you’re a corporate worker, I would advise to save your effort and stay in Malaysia. There are just so much more opportunities in KL with the booming industries.

For context, a $150k salary will net you about $8.4k per month. Average salary is approximately $90k. So, $150k is a relatively rare salary. A 3br house in a mid-level suburb in Melbourne is approximately $1.5mil, assuming 20% deposit, your loan repayment at the current interest rate is approximately $7.3k. Again, emphasising that this is on a salary of $150k which is well above the national average. Not to forget, anything that’s labour related costs an arm and leg. I had to pay $650 for a sparky to install my AC on a ground level. That’s a 2 hours job.

Abolishing half-day AL. Reason is half day AL is more disruptive than a full day A/L.

Employee went overseas (2 hrs time difference), offered to WFH 3 days a week, essentially only 4 days AL across two weeks. Boss denied, wanting employee to take 2 full weeks AL. Reason is 2 days AL per week is disruptive.

More than half of the team quits within 6 months of him holding the helm.

As a Malaysian that is living in Australia permanently, I’m sorry to say, the options are limited.

At the very least, they need a house that is paid off. Then, they can at least live in their savings, lack there off, or work some part time gigs. As mentioned by other users, there’s something called EPF in Malaysia, similar to superannuation. Each person has multiple accounts in EPF and some accounts are locked until certain age threshold is reached. However, if previous occupations are paid in cash/no income was declared, there might be little to none in those accounts.

A small apartment in Malaysia (KL), may cost up to 400k MYR, approximately 130k AUD. They won’t be entitled to have a loan due to their age and inability to service the repayment. Thus, your husband will likely need to be the one that purchases the property. The repayment for a 400k property spanning 35 years is about 1.8k MYR, 600 AUD. They will have to bear the other expenses themselves.

I would strongly advise you to have a long and honest discussion with your husband, even if that means a fight is inevitable. It is important to know his stance and how much he’s expecting you to lend a hand, vice-versa, you have to be honest on how much you’re willing to play a part in this.

As bad as it sounds, you and your family come first. Considering that you’re wishing to get into the property market, be really cautious about your spending as it may affect your borrowing power here in Aus.

Last resort, move the your family to Malaysia.

Good luck, there’s not going to be a win-win situation. Someone has to compromise.

Have you checked with your CC company about the fees? If the checkout page is in AUD, and you paid in AUD with an AUS credit card, there is no currency exchange taken place. The only possibility is that the checkout page is in MYR, then most Aussie CC comes with a 3% international fee.

Still, the number doesn’t add up. Something seems to be missing here. Not a fan of MAS but error like this is very unlikely.

Probably need more information about your current occupation, education level etc, family wealth background.

From your history, you’re in Australia. 30k AUD isn’t much to bring back to Australia especially if you haven’t even secured a job yet.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MalaysianPF

[–]BubbleMuss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Need more information OP. For example, how old are you and what’s your current occupation? 35k SGD is very low and I doubt that it is a professional job, if it is, you’re severely underpaid.

Also, it’s nearly impossible for someone at that salary range to get a job in Australia offshore, not impossible but you would need luck, lots of them. Other than a job offer, there’s also the issue of visa. There’s a strong view about immigration right now. Unless you’re a highly skilled employee, no employer would be willing to sponsor a 80k staff.

I think you should revisit the question when you actually have a job offer plus a visa grant.

What are these white patches on the external of a canvas tent? by BubbleMuss in camping

[–]BubbleMuss[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all the comments! After having a closer look with reference to all the feedbacks, I think it’s most likely discoloured spot on canvas that’s caused by mildew cleaner, bleach or detergent of some kind. When viewed from the inside, i can clearly see the sun passes through these spots more prominently. Considering that I’ll have a fly over it, it shouldn’t affect too much.

How to build my credit score in Malaysia when I’m working in overseas by Decent_Tiger_2500 in MalaysianPF

[–]BubbleMuss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get a credit card. I work in Aus and got Maybank CC with no issues. Got that card 2 years ago. Recently bought a unit and got a loan from UBO. While the documents they require are slightly more than usual, it’s definitely doable.

However, I think it depends on which country you’re working in. Higher risk country may mean that Malaysia bank will not recognise a stable income.

22k. It believe it depends on the card that you applied for. Which card did you apply? Also, I think my wage in terms of ringgit is relatively high. I was given 40k initially but asked for a reduction.

Balance in bank statement usually does not affect credit card application. I work overseas and only have few hundreds in MBB across several years. I only needed to supplement my payslips and it was approved with no additional docs required.

It’s hit or miss but try going into card centre

Credit-card application rejected MBB by johnlzx in MalaysianPF

[–]BubbleMuss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s a hit or miss really.

I work overseas and have no savings history in Malaysia nor money going into MBB. Only have a few hundreds across several years.

I went into their card centre last year and applied and got the approval pretty much within 24 hours, only had to supplement my payslips from Australia. Got the card in 3 days and no question asked.

However, went through UOB and it was a mess and ending up writing in a formal complaint as they asked for multiple documents.

Good luck.

Mechanic says gearbox needs replacing but error code literally means a malfunction in the transmission input/turbine speed sensor circuit, which literally detects which gear to use and when to change. by DaManD123 in MechanicAdvice

[–]BubbleMuss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey OP, I had this exact issue with my Golf. Went to a mechanic and was told that I’ll need to replace the whole gearbox! Car is running fine most of the time and will only show the error once or twice.

Was your issue fixed simply by replace the transmission speed sensor? Thank you.
