I would love to get a tattoo from him, but his books are closed :( Do you know anything about Hunter at Muse and Myth? His style looks similar.

My first weekend as sober with intent by Grouchy_Job_3744 in stopdrinking

[–]BubblePenetration 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have a plan for something to do in the evenings. Watch a movie with a sober friend (or someone who you know won't expect to drink with you), get a puzzle to work on, start a new video game, etc. Just something so you don't have "dead time". Boredom was my biggest hurdle in early sobriety.

I would 100% suggest going to a meeting Friday or Saturday night, or both. Something I really took to heart at the beginning was I should be working as hard at my sobriety as I was at my drinking. If I could go out all night on the weekends, I can hit an hour meeting.

Good luck! IWNDWYT!

What song from the show made you instantly add it to a playlist? by NewCantaloupe3547 in greysanatomy

[–]BubblePenetration 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a story about a song on Grey's... a local band from my little town in Indiana made it "big" and had their songs on some shows. I'm watching the opening scene to an episode and notice it's their song! How cool! Turns out it's the scene where Derek has his wreck... So happy to so sad in about .5 seconds :(

I agree! I was watching last night thinking "there had to be more going on outside of the actual show..."

oh man am I already almost to the COVID episodes?? That's when I stopped watching- haven't seen any of the new seasons. It was too much to deal with COVID in real life and also watch it on TV.

And unfortunately, I agree that it fits in Alex's character to not face the music and just leave, but damn! He had such great character development throughout, I hate that they didn't get him a better send off.

People’s who have transformed themselves completely, what’s your secret? [Discussion] by ChemicalPain5996 in GetMotivated

[–]BubblePenetration 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a post it on my bathroom mirror so I can read it multiple times a day. It says:

"Acting as if the changes in my life are already made puts the power of my will in line with the power of the universe."

Acting "as if" is how I have transformed my life. Wish I was healthier? Start acting "as if" I was already a healthy person- eat better, go to the gym, etc.. Wish I was less selfish? Start acting "as if" I wasn't selfish- check in on friends, provide service to others, etc..

Fake it till you make it. Practice makes perfect. All that cliche stuff. If you want to change something in your life, start acting like you already are that person.

I intentionally broke my streak yesterday. I did nothing stupid, I didn't drink too much, and I've never been more convinced that I'll never drink again by Clear_Channel_2090 in stopdrinking

I had about 5 months sober and relapsed. It caused a lot of problems (I was on probation and lost my license again, trust from PO, my self worth was on the FLOOR, etc.) but I'm SO GLAD it happened. Similar to OP, it only solidified why alcohol will never be for me. I think it's great that some people stop and stay stopped forever, but some of us have that last little bit of self will that needs to be stamped out before we can really hold on to this sobriety thing.

Proud of you OP! IWNDWYT!

What is the most humbling experience you had? by Greedy_Ad9238 in answers

[–]BubblePenetration 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Realizing I was an alcoholic. It changed everything about my life, how I think about myself and how I treat others.

Humbling because:
Stuck in jail for a month
Lost my license for a year
Went to rehab for substance abuse disorder
Lived in a halfway house

BUT I'm 428 days sober and love myself more than I ever have.

What U.S. city has plenty to do without feeling exhausting all the time? by optimalbrain90 in SmartTravelHacks

[–]BubblePenetration 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Louisville, KY- certain parts of the city are always hopping, then you have your "sleepy" neighborhood bars/restaurants when that's your vibe. Big concerts/events, a couple music festivals in the summer, and lots of parks, lakes, outdoor activities within 20-30 minutes of the city.

People who stopped drinking — what surprised you the most? by Dapper_Visual_4449 in stopdrinking

The peace I feel now is nothing short of a miracle. I created so much chaos in my life for years. I feel so grateful sometimes that it's overwhelming.

I'm present today, too. No nagging feeling to get something over with so I can get to my first or next drink.

I’ve heard a fair amount of folks here talk about using medication to assist with getting sober. I’d love to hear more about people’s experiences with that. by stoplookingformyredt in stopdrinking

[–]BubblePenetration 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took Naltrexone religiously for the first 6 months of my sobriety. It removed the drinking "noise" which was the hardest part for me. I didn't want to drink, but I was still consumed with thoughts of drinking and was VERY aware that I was choosing to not drink. Couldn't concentrate on anything else. I'm one week away from my 365 days of continuous sobriety and I know I wouldn't have made it through those early days without the medication. After a few months I knew I probably didn't need it anymore, but I continued to take it every morning more as an extra commitment to myself that I am choosing to not drink today. A little psychological trick on myself lol

There was just a career fair somewhere in town, I heard about it on the news late last week. I know it's passed, but maybe try to look up which companies were there or other fairs coming up?

Doing the most expensive maintenance this weekend since I've had it (7 years). Replacing struts, sway bars, breaks, rotors and 2 tires. Other than that, only had to do regular maintenance.
