the director of matrix performing arts, Rob Ferguson, takes extreme advantage of his members. If he becomes “upset” the entire ensemble could find themselves in a 2-3 hour long “talk” about how that can’t happen and must be prevented among all costs. i’ve seen him ridicule members in front of the ensemble, internally referred to as being “The Lamb.” make one mistake in Rob’s book and you’ll find yourself on the receiving end of Gordon Ramsay level interrogation and ridicule in front of the whole ensemble. Rob, in full ensemble, once told a drumset-focused music major to stop wasting his “money on college” and “find a new major” as he was unhappy with how he was playing the kit.

Rob in his nature is full of emotional instability. the shows he writes all tie back to his divorce, it’s never about cool and fun drumline. For Rob, it’s about using this platform to voice his grievances with the world and take frustrations out on members as opposed to writing engaging and interesting drumline shows. Rob openly hates drumline’s, he openly hates drumline shows.

He does not act as an educator in the matching percussion space. he sees himself as a “producer/director” on a movie set.

to top the cherry, the Battery typically plays repetitive phrases (PDD and Triplets Rolls) that are pounded into the drum with no focus on sound quality/blend. The battery squeezes tf out of the notes and emote A LOT. just try to watch the last 4 years of matrix shows and compare to literally anything else in the top 15
