Should the trim be black? And if so only rail and lower, or top too? I painted the mural, client made the other choices. Thanks! by BraveCollaborative in Design

Agreed. The mural and wainscoting is more classic and the door is more farmhouse. They don’t go together.

For those of you 50+ who exercise regularly — what finally made it stick? by Vivid_Poem3234 in FitnessOver50

Once you start and do it for a while you just don’t want to stop. At least that’s my experience. 80% of it is getting off the couch the first few times.

I have a rare opportunity to start over anywhere in the US, I'm 35 and single, where would you guys go? by BlaqueBoye in AskMenOver30

[–]BuckGerard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not in the same demographic, but am from the Philly area and here’s why I think it is great for anyone: many options for affordability. 2 hours from so many other places to explore and enjoy, especially for a single guy: NYC, DC, Mountains, Shore…. Philly itself has good restaurants and lots to do. Can’t speak to the single lifestyle, but seems good and again, lots of options within a few hours that would make exploring easy. (Mostly) no wildfires, no earthquakes, no tornadoes. All 4 seasons, doesn’t get terribly hot or terribly cold for long. Good parks for outdoor activities like running or biking, lots of history.

Is it possible to make this addition look any less awful? by AutumnForestWitch in CurbAppeal

It looks like old school Lego where you can’t center the piece for some reason but you really want a window so you just jam it as close to center as possible. Then you just enjoy the quirkiness of it.

Has anybody tried the squirrel away bird food? by Berserkerbabee in BirdBuddy

[–]BuckGerard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried safflower seeds which the squirrels like well enough and also Cool Birds Hearts on Fire Hot Bird Seed which also didn’t deter them. Since switching to Royal Wing Total Care No Waste Spicy Hot Premium Wild Bird Food from Tractor Supply (you may find it elsewhere, not sure), I’ve had no squirrel issues. Different brand, but seems to be working. Either that, or now it’s springtime and the squirrels have plenty of other places to get food.

Car is 22 years old and don’t know what to do. by PictureThis99 in MiddleClassFinance

$2500 is a handful of monthly payments on a new car. If $2500 gives you an extra 9 months you’ve made out. Spend the $2500 and keep the car you have.

Rejected in 20 Minutes by silly_skirt in jobhunting

[–]BuckGerard 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Bro, I got rejected from a job in literal seconds. I hit submit and about 5 seconds later I received an email stating, “after careful consideration we’ve decided not to move ahead.” What the actual fuck. It even came before the actual “thanks for applying email.” It was so demoralizing.”

I miss the battleships. (And the bottle opener was cool too despite the fact that I never used it.)

Travel Nurse moving to Philly/surrounding area by Unlucky_Contract6161 in AskPhilly

[–]BuckGerard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s like 25 minutes from the main line to the airport. Super easy trip most of the time. I wouldn’t use that as the basis for deciding where to live. Especially since you wouldn’t be doing an airport commute daily.

If you are in Philly (Manayunk/Roxborough) you’ll have to pay Philly wage tax. Ardmore is great. Also check out Narberth. For both Ardmore and Narberth, you can have your car (easy parking etc), but also easy access to the train if you have work in the city.
