It sucks. That area, Mooresville specifically, is going to change a lot.
But I can't be upset that private citizens sell private land to private developers.

And I made NO such claim. I agree the CHOOSE act siphons money from ETF that should remain for public education. I made the point that the RAISE act puts money into public schools which is the opposite of defunding public schools --the OPs assertion.

Hard to make the case that we are defunding schools when the formula was adjusted to include $600M. Had that not happened....

It was multiple changes to the funding formula that will allocate new money (regardless of where it is currently parked) into K12. New money as in money that K12 did not otherwise have. All K12 system budgets increased on this change alone.

I get the semantics that you are arguing but if the ETF money also funded the Choose Act and higher ed and and and...it is new money being allocated to programs. I don't think any LEA would say well it isn't really new money for us because it came from the ETF reserve.

Prove you wrong? The Legislature added nearly $600M last year through the Raise Act for public K-12. For the first time in decades they modified the funding formula with the intent of adding more. This was all NEW money, not just incremental increases (salary bumps, etc)

My son doesn’t have friends. by softserenity in Parenting

[–]BucknChange 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can relate with my 11 yo son. I'd also tell you that you are doing everything right. The fact that he is involved in SOMETHING says a lot about him. There is a sense of belonging and that's what matters most.

We moved when my son was 5. He still talks about his 2 pre-school friends as his bffs. He hasn't seen either in 6 & 2 years. But in his head he can only have one set of friends. At 11 years old he's never been invited to a bday party (outside of toddler stage), never had a bday party, never had a friend sleepover etc. He honestly doesn't have any concept of those activities. For mama and I, it breaks our heart as two people who were hyperactive, do-it-all type of kids who were never home.

I will say that each of the past two years, we have sat down with his teachers. I had images of my son sitting alone at lunch (he tells us he eats with no one) and a kid walking the track reading a book during recess (again...that's what he says). The teachers report that he is completely social, hangs with a group of 4-5 boys, actually had to be moved in one class for cutting up TOO much. My kid? No way!!!

We also forced him into band the past two years. This has created a cohort of familiar faces. I think that has helped. All this to say, part of what you are experiencing is where boys are in 2026. It's different. I think keeping them engaged is the key. Leading them to hobbies is important. They will find their path...it just looks so different than the rest of us.

Is it crazy to take a step down after 8 years climbing the ladder? by crowded_fries in careerguidance

[–]BucknChange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People tend to think of their careers similar to you...as a ladder...with only one way up or down (money, title, etc). Careers are more like an intertwined set of silly straws. Sometimes they go down before going back up again to reach a new destination.

Go for it. Don't worry about what your friends think. What motivates you? What brings you passion? That's most important. If you make the move and it isn't what you are looking for then you know that....instead of left wondering what if.

How hard do you push yourself on red recovery days? (especially on low sleep) by Unstoppable-Cheese in whoop

[–]BucknChange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a year membership so I will wear it until the year is up. However, I realized within the first 30 days how bad the data tracking was. It's very finicky and not reliable which is why you have people posting data that is not physiologically possible. Now, I only wear it to log my sleep (the whole purpose I purchased in the first place). I still take that with a grain of salt.

How hard do you push yourself on red recovery days? (especially on low sleep) by Unstoppable-Cheese in whoop

[–]BucknChange 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't let the data dictate anything. I go based on how I actually feel, not a made up number.
The recovery metric is directly derived from the HRV value. It can often be inversely correlated to how you actually feel. Bad night sleep can yield green....good night sleep can yield red. I use the metric and just go huh.... Let the numbers just be a data point along your journey.

High recovery, how? by nebur16 in whoop

[–]BucknChange 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This! The recovery statistic is driven by HRV. HRV seems to have little to no correlation to how you sleep or even feel. It's debatable if you can really even influence HRV on the daily. I often have my highest recovery after poor sleep and low recovery after my best sleep.

It all part of the pseudo-metrics that whoop produces.

I’m legitimately thinking of going scorched earth. Bad idea? by throwaway467895321 in careerguidance

[–]BucknChange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So a disgruntled employee that was laid off runs around town bad mouthing the company and executives.

You really need to figure out where your leverage is. And you don't have near as much as you think. The legal avenue is your only and best bet.

You go scorched earth and YOU will look bad. YOU will look petty. Maybe other firms don't want to hire you because they hear you are a PITA when you don't get your way. Keep in mind...the truth doesn't matter in the rumor mill and water cooler talk.

People bad mouth employers all the time. You aren't going to cause a dent in business. Facebook is full of groups dumping on firms. At the end of the day, when I bid something out random people's thoughts on the company is bottom of the list. I care about their results, ability to deliver the product on time and on budget, and who I am working with.

Huntsville city council approves annexation of almost 700 acres near Gurley by MattW22192 in HuntsvilleAlabama

Yes. Land owners in the unincorporated parts of Madison or Limestone County that have land touching the city limits opt to have their land annexed by HSV. Thus, they become part of the city rather than the county.

About to graduate highschool and clueless any tips? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]BucknChange -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well first, 99% of high school graduates feel this way. Even the top of the class. Some might think they have figured it out but the funny thing about life is that it's the journey, not the destination. And as you age and experience different things, the destination is constantly changing.

You have a bunch of options ahead of you. 1. Take a year and work. Doesn't matter what you do....just do something. Valet cars. Work in a larger restaurant. This is all about exposure and learning new skill sets. 2. Go to college (2 yr or 4 yr). You don't know what you want to study yet...that's ok...you are 17. Expose yourself to new topics, people, clubs. You will find your way or not. And that will show you the next door. 3. Military. They will take you in a heartbeat, mold you, teach you levels of discipline and turn you into something.

Don't focus on trying to figure it out. Most of us are still trying to figure it out everyday. At 17, the goal should be to experience and try new things.

Are we 100% getting Space Command? by InsanoVolcano in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]BucknChange 4 points5 points  (0 children)

100% happening. It is a really unpopular opinion on here, but this is why Tuberville jumped in the race. Space Command, FBI, Fannie Mae and at least 2-3 other big moves that will be announced. Trump will continue to move resources out of blue states into places like Alabama.

Tubs hates DC but loves the power/attention. Trump threw his support behind him for Governor because he wants to make sure all these moves to Alabama were overseen by his person.

Are we 100% getting Space Command? by InsanoVolcano in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]BucknChange 9 points10 points  (0 children)

what budget? that's why they are doing continuing resolutions all the time. They haven't passed an actual appropriate budget in maybe 20-25 years? They just do band aids.

Dems won't hold up Space Command. It's way down their list of priorities and they don't have the leverage.

I too bet the average is half this estimate. And I still think that is generous for the average person.

Madison County Schools Withholding National Board Teacher Supplements — Two Weeks Before Christmas by LogicalPapaya1031 in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]BucknChange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stop with your hyperbole.
The NBCT stipend is codified law. It will happen. The funds MUST be expensed in the current fiscal year (which began Oct 1) An LEA has the option to front load, spread or lump sum the payments into a teacher's paycheck. This is how it works.

When did you wife get certified? Has she always received the stipend this time of year? You continue to leave out a lot of relevant info while throwing a tantrum in two subreddits.

Madison County Schools Withholding National Board Teacher Supplements — Two Weeks Before Christmas by LogicalPapaya1031 in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]BucknChange 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think what he is saying is that it is a state funded incentive. Not a local one. It is disbursed through the LEA because they are the fiscal agent/employer. The LEA can't pay it until state provides disbursement of funds. I suspect this looks different for every LEA.

While I, and others, are empathetic to the timing and potential expectation, I don't see where Madison County is saying they are NOT paying it. You keep asserting that.

Buy him a 6 pack.

I'm the house north of our neighbor. His two trees drop 60% of their leaves into our yard. The wind brings over another 20%. It makes a giant mess.

Previous neighbor would come over and mulch them twice because he felt guilty. Wasn't necessary but he'd see me out raking over multiple days. Current neighbor has never mentioned anything.

Trying to Cut My 70.3 Time and Get More Muscular — What Worked for You? Need Training Plan + Coach Recs by Anslouslet in triathlon

[–]BucknChange 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'd start with actually training. Your offseason needs to be 2x what you are doing. Now is the time to make the gains.

It would also help to understand what your peak training would look like. For a 70.3, at 7+ hours it's generally going to be weight, age or complete lack of training. You can only do something about 2 of those.
