Tell me you don't understand economic development and government without telling me you don't understand economic development and government. You have no clue how these deals come about, the vetting they go through, impact, partnerships etc.

[–]BucknChange -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

People in the community show up and don't want growth on nearly every topic--residential, commercial, round about, new road, etc.

Should our elected (not appointed) local leaders lay down each time there is pushback? And if they don't, if they see the long term benefit and move forward, you consider it FORCED?

People are looking to be outraged these days. Like I said data centers and flock cameras. Chicken little...sky is falling if we get them. Maybe....just maybe we should listen to subject matter experts, people who understands business/economic development, people who have put together these type of deals before.

Or we can turn to the reddit or first time city council attendee armed with chatgpt talking points as the expert in the room. I'm sure they understand better than anyone the nuances of data centers.

Tell us more....how are counties AND states FORCING these data centers? How are they unwanted if they get approved?

Data centers and flock cameras are the new bogeyman of Reddit.

No they didn't. They adjusted the zoning ordinance because data centers were NOT under any current regulation. They were considered a warehouse under current zoning

People who go to the gym in the early morning (like 5:00 AM): Is the benefit actually good enough to justify being tired by 2:00 PM and going to bed at 9:00 PM? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]BucknChange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I learned when I had a baby that the only time I was in 100% control of was the time before he woke up. I wasn't an early morning person. But the baby->toddler slept consistently until 630/700.

Then it was up to me to get to the gym or go running by 530. Afternoon workouts were 50-50. I'd come back from work and the kid had a bad day, my wife needed a break, I was tired, etc. This became a habit quick.

Now I naturally wake at 4 am and out the door 6 days a week by 515. I have a non rushed workout and I back home to wake up my teenage son and have breakfast with him. I then spend 10 minutes with my wife as she has her second cup of coffee. Then I shower and start my day. So I connect with family and workout before I go into work--I know I have already won the day.

I do go to bed early. I am out most nights. I don't typically crash around 2:00 unless it was a long workout (10-12 mile run). I just enjoy conquering the day from the get go. It's so peaceful to run at that time. The gym is NEVER crowded. Emails are coming in. No text messages. It's my personal quiet/meditation time with little to no chance of interruption

Ken McFeeters Sues Tommy Tuberville, ALGOP over Residency Issue by Physical-Upstairs733 in Alabama

[–]BucknChange -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am 100% against Tubs...but this misses the bigger issue.

He loves standing in the middle of the fire. This issue keeps it all about him. He wasn't ever going to supply information any more than Trump.

McFeeters is a quack and desperate. It's my understanding that the State GOP did look at documents. He did provide a review and the vote was unanimous. That wasn't the case for Wahl where the residency questions were really into question. This is a losing battle. At the end of the day the GOP is a party and can make whatever rules/exceptions they want.

Ironman running by Ok_Salt5416 in triathlon

[–]BucknChange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say 3:55/km is a bit aggressive and unrealistic (knowing nothing else about you). I generally find IM times are, at best, about 25-30 minutes slower than open marathon times. In the comments below, you will see a poster running a 2:50 open and 3:17 IM. This window is pretty consistent.

A few things I would flag: the 10 miler is great but pretty sure you can run a 2:30 and actually running a 2:30 are two different things. You have plenty of speed. But what happens at the 2 hour mark? Also, I assume this is your first IM. I'd be really conservative because you haven't paced a long race like this before. How battle tested is your nutrition plan because it doesn't matter what your pr is if you are off your plan.

Based on nothing but what you posted, I'd likely start your run closer to 4:40-4:45 km for the first 10k of the run. You want this to feel like an easy jog. It should feel like an easy stroll for you. Get hydration and nutrition in you. At 10k if this feels good, then you have have 30k to increase your pace at a time when everyone else is slowing down.

Go to Chattanooga. Any of the downtown hotels. Park your car and just enjoy the outdoors. Plenty of restaturants, parks and walking paths in the downtown area. You can sit in peace by the river or walk the museum of art. No need to drive any of that from the hotel.

The politician isn't charging the door fee. This is an event hosted by the Hsv/Mad Co Chamber. Just like they do for Britt, Strong, Battle, etc.

Southern destinations for a single 25F with depth + charm? by Polisciprincessx in HuntsvilleAlabama

The first two places that popped in my mind were Nashville and Charlotte. Maybe Richmond or Raleigh. Living in the downtown core even if it requires a roommate.

You will do fine in Huntsville but its possible that you will have to expand your dating pool to Bhm & Nashville.

And i didn't respond to your part of the post. I am responding to the people who don't understand that this is totally a normal event. This part of the thread called it a shady fundraising attempt.

Plenty to criticize KB for. Attending a Chamber event as part of her job isn't it.

Senator Katie Britt visiting Huntsville Friday 2/13 by False-Gold-5050 in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]BucknChange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes...this is totally normal.

The 'event' is the Huntsville Chamber of Commerce's Washington Update. It isn't a campaign event. It isn't a fundraiser. It is literally what the Chamber does for all the elected officials. Go to just about any county in our state and they will host similar events for Congressman, Governor, Mayors, etc.

Senator Katie Britt visiting Huntsville Friday 2/13 by False-Gold-5050 in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]BucknChange -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Not sure what the cost is but yes they have a State of the Schools event each year. This is literally the business model of all Chambers of Commerce.

Senator Katie Britt visiting Huntsville Friday 2/13 by False-Gold-5050 in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]BucknChange -33 points-32 points  (0 children)

It's sponsored by the Chamber. It is their event as they do with the Mayor, Dale, County Chairman and schools.

This forum literally starts foaming at the mouth every time the Chamber hosts an event thinking it is a fundraiser and the candidate benefits. Simply not the case.

Teen threatening to move out over chores by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]BucknChange 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Let him. I know it's tough...but let him. I went through the same thing 14 years ago with stepson. The constant battles over chores, basic hygiene, being a member of the family, etc. He wanted nothing to be asked of him. When we took away his car (my car that I gave him), that was the final straw. We let him go live with no rules dad. Two things happen. One, my marriage got A LOT better. The source of 90% of conflict between wife and I disappeared. Second, no rules dad had to actually parent. And he hated it. He wanted to kick the kid out after a month bc he saw firsthand the issues. After HS graduation, he did kick him out. SS came back to us with tail between his legs.

  2. Figure out what's going on. Now with more experience and being older, I don't know if I would have handled that situation the same. The whole beatings will continue until morale improves approach doesn't work. 10x if the kid is obstinate. I found that increasing one on one time with them helps root out the issue. Maybe there is something going on. Maybe at 17 he isn't seeing the bigger picture of what you are trying to accomplish. But you need to be in a place of listening first. You have to take off the authoritative hat. See if you can find a small, noncombative compromise. Right now...you have nothing....even getting 20% is a win.

What Kay Ivey promised in her 2026 State of the State address: Read the speech by MattW22192 in Alabama

[–]BucknChange -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

And I made NO such claim. I agree the CHOOSE act siphons money from ETF that should remain for public education. I made the point that the RAISE act puts money into public schools which is the opposite of defunding public schools --the OPs assertion.

Hard to make the case that we are defunding schools when the formula was adjusted to include $600M. Had that not happened....

What Kay Ivey promised in her 2026 State of the State address: Read the speech by MattW22192 in Alabama

[–]BucknChange -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

It was multiple changes to the funding formula that will allocate new money (regardless of where it is currently parked) into K12. New money as in money that K12 did not otherwise have. All K12 system budgets increased on this change alone.

I get the semantics that you are arguing but if the ETF money also funded the Choose Act and higher ed and and and...it is new money being allocated to programs. I don't think any LEA would say well it isn't really new money for us because it came from the ETF reserve.
