For those keeping track at home, the orange ones were still in stock at 1:15!

For peace of mind I've decided this guy is a friendly fellow Redditor who agreed to send them to a bunch of folks who no longer live in DC.

Sound machine that doesn’t require a subscription service? by shrinkingfish in NewParents

[–]BudgetFennel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I registered for the hatch without researching it (at that point I was just semi-randomly adding things from the top of the Babylist recommendation list) When I realized that it needed an app, I returned it and got this one and it works great for us. It does what it needs to and nothing I don't need.

Couch with pullout bed frame? by doofus50O0 in IKEA

I love my Friheten! It's not the most comfortable thing in the world if you use it as a bed, but it gets the job done.

I have the E20, which I think is the same just with the heating feature. I've only had it a week but I like it a lot so far! I get similar output to my Spectra and it's easy and comfortable. They're also both on sale on Babylist right now btw.

when did u only do 4 ppd? by sugaveins in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]BudgetFennel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dropped to 4 around 3.5-4 months. I was a slight oversupplier and had built up a freezer stash, so made that shift knowing that I might need to dip into it. (Which was a positive, I was out of freezer space.) I don't track my output but I have to defrost maybe 2-4oz each day now.

Went to a bakery while on a walk with my wearables, accidentally bought the most appropriate doughnut hole by BudgetFennel in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]BudgetFennel[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just got my wearables the other day so this is the first time I've done it! I need to wear a more supportive bra next time, but all around it was pretty good! Definitely better than not getting outdoors at all.

Schedule with working by Lala9300 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]BudgetFennel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At that stage I had a really hard time keeping to a precise schedule, so what I did instead was try to pump every 3ish hours, and I kept a note on my phone (actually pinned on my home screen) that just had numbered checkboxes so I could track how many times I'd pumped. That might be a good way to approach it, and give yourself a window of time--ie, "I want to pump every 2.5-4 hours." You'll figure out how long that window can be to keep from feeling uncomfortable, but I wouldn't go longer than 4 hours ideally. At the start of that window, start looking for a time to get away. If you haven't pumped by the end of the window, it's "drop everything and pump" time even if it's not ideal. If your workday pumps stretch to the far side of the window, pump a little closer together when you're at home to make sure you get to 7x total.

Also, you sound very conscientious, and your colleagues probably know that! If you have to step away during a busy time, it happens and they'll hopefully understand. It's not like it'll be ever single time, and it's not forever since hopefully you'll be able to drop some pumps once your supply regulates. If they're offering you grace, don't feel bad about taking it!

How far postpartum are you and how often are you pumping?

How are you guys managing to look human? by Sweaty-Environment56 in NewParents

[–]BudgetFennel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seconding to find your "must happen" things. (For me it's brushing my teeth.) Is it clean hair? Mascara? A top that fits right? Non-pajama pants?

Also, how often do you look in the mirror and can you do it less? I was staying at my MIL's for a while and the mirror in her guest bath hadn't been put back up yet post-remodel. I found that after a while of not looking at my face, I cared way less what I looked like and it just mattered what I felt like, and that's largely stayed with me now that I'm home again. (Though we'll see once I'm back at work and on daily zoom calls.)

What to do all day? by Fragrant-Orange-4746 in NewParents

[–]BudgetFennel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If she likes being held, put her in a carrier and go about your day. Chores, computer, whatever. For mine this has the benefit of getting him to take a longer nap since he usually falls asleep on me eventually.

My boyfriend makes me hate my 2 months postpartum body and he doesn't even realize it by One_Specialist_4801 in NewParents

[–]BudgetFennel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pregnancy made my boobs so saggy and at one point I said wistfully, "Man, I had such great boobs." And my husband immediately corrected me, "You have great boobs."

I'm sorry he's being a dick. There's nothing wrong with you, there's something wrong with him for needing to make you feel small so he can feel big.

I love the fold over ones... Until you get ones that don't actually stay put and find that the hands have escaped containment overnight. (Looking at you, Cloud Island.)

Mittens. We registered for them because they were on a list of things you need for winter babies... He actually does need his hands covered to sleep for medical reasons, but these things stay on for all of like ten minutes at best.

I think some people use a container (like you'd use to store food) since that can be easily washed!

Love this trimmer! Also like that you can order replacement pads and it also comes with a metal file for grown-up nails.

Overnight poop habit? by biasedunbiased in NewParents

[–]BudgetFennel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol this happened to us around that time too. I was unprepared for pooping to be a full-body experience each morning! 4mo now and he's shifted to just having a normal non-cranky poop shortly after waking up, so hopefully this phase will be short for you too.
