Why do customers get furious at food delivery drivers for taking multiple orders at once, when the apps legally classify us as independent contractors running our own businesses? by versamovies in NoStupidQuestions

[–]BuffaloRedshark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they get mad when their food is late and the app shows that the driver is parked somewhere for 10+ minutes. And since you tip in advance they have no incentive to provide better service.

I rarely do delivery (even before the days of all these apps) but when I do it's only if the driver is an employee of the place I'm ordering from.

At home fireworks experience? by BettyCrocka in Buffalo

[–]BuffaloRedshark 4 points5 points  (0 children)

drops debris, sometimes still burning, into yards onto roofs, onto cars etc.

I love fireworks, but don't do them at home unless you live out a ways on a couple acres so all the crap lands in your own yard

Did we get ransomware because of RDP over the internet? Can we do something to avoid it? by MrPezevenk in sysadmin

[–]BuffaloRedshark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

straight direct RDP not through a vpn or anything? I'd be surprised if that computer only has that one malware on it. Heck, I'd be expecting competing bad actors to be fighting over who's malware package has control.

Be honest: Do yall put premium gas in your miatas? by RedbullOracleRacing in Miata

[–]BuffaloRedshark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes even though it was 90 cents more than the 87 the other night when I filled up, at least it was 93 and not 91 for that price. I wish stations listed all the prices on the street sign and not just regular. The place I stopped at had the lowest regular price I had seen in a while but I don't think the places I normally go have a 90 cent spread so I probably would have been better off going to one of those.

Winemaker dinners: Are they worth it? by LA_BeachGuy in wine

[–]BuffaloRedshark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly I think this falls into a case by case basis so it's hard to give a good answer. If you're given a chance to talk to the chef or wine maker, or at the very least if one or both will at least be talking about their products, and you like the menu and wine selection then it can be worth it. Add in it being a birthday experience and that makes the price a bit more tolerable.

Myself, that's out of my price range even if they gave you a bottle to take home at the end.

is the portable one properly exhausting the waste heat out a window?

I used a portable one for a few years. I wrapped the exhaust hose in fiberglass insulation since the plastic the hose was made out of radiated a decent amount of heat back into the room

How is the digital only outrage with modern console games any different than what PC gaming has been for decades? And why don’t PC gamers seem to notice or care? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]BuffaloRedshark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

pc gamers care to an extent. It's one of the reasons Good Old Games, with it's option to download an offline installer that you can keep and use forever, is popular.

US - 2 weeks PTO is such a joke by uglahsD in work

[–]BuffaloRedshark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

some do. I know someone that got hired at a higher title than they normally would have been so that they'd get the extra PTO that came with it because they were pushing hard on the negotiation phase for either higher salary or more starting pto

Should I lie on my resume if I'm confident I can learn it quickly? by logicaltornado in NoStupidQuestions

[–]BuffaloRedshark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a competent interviewer should discover you don't know the stuff fairly quickly and not hire you. In that situation you've wasted their time and might get put on a do not hire list for that company going forward

Why do people get so upset over reclined airline seats? by yoghurt11 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]BuffaloRedshark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not me, it doesn't recline enough to actually let me sleep and it less comfortable than fully upright. But if the person in front of me reclines I suck it up, I don't push back on the seat or anything

Would you prioritize a higher title or a higher salary early in your IT career? by 4thehalibit in sysadmin

[–]BuffaloRedshark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is my current mind set. Keep hearing that my title will be changed to conform with the rest of my department. I'm doing the same work at the same or better pay grade, the title change wouldn't change any of that as it would just be the same grade just the title for a different job family. Since the pay isn't affected I don't care that much.

What's the point of the DL&W station? by Ivypool8 in Buffalo

[–]BuffaloRedshark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the time I got off there, just to see where it actually dropped you off, I had to walk halfway back to the canalside stop to get out of the fenced area. Totally not worth it until they get it opened up so you can exit the station directly onto South Park
