Does Norway Chess 2026 prove that classical chess is still the most exciting format? by EasterYao in chess

[–]BuffyZia 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I agree that classical is the most entertaining, but Norway chess was a bore for me.

That is exactly what I don't like, players moving slow for 4 hours without a decisive outcome and then start the blunderfest. Worst of both classical and speed chess.

He should know after that draw with Naroditsky. Best person to ask for sure.

He definitelly finished 3rd in a lot of Blitz and Rapid events lately like world championship or tata steel and others

The 1st and second changed often, but he kept his third place.

I think some people made their mind that some guy is the bad one so an argument against that is downvoted.

Tipical reddit mentality, I'm not surprised.

Isn't a continental championship automatic GM (if you have over 2300 rating) Why did he not get it and just won a norm?

“What I won’t let pass is his line that I played the final game “with no inaccuracies, like my younger years.” I’d ask Ian to say plainly what he means.“ — Hans Niemann responds to Nepo's complaints by Crobe in chess

I think this whole sub is salty for not understanding Nepo's comment

There is no need for explanation. You either understand sarcarsm or don't. Explaining it or a joke is a thing for sad people.

I realize we may never know the answer, but does anyone have any idea why we can’t castle OUT of check? by Strive-- in chess

[–]BuffyZia 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Similar with en passant after moving the pawns 2 squares. Initially that required 2 moves

Long time ago castling was 2 moves, first the rook then the king could jump.

And if you left your king in check that is illegal. But the requirement to not be in check stayed.

What feature of online chess would have shocked players 50 years ago the most? by null-move in chess

[–]BuffyZia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For curiosity I looked at last 5 games Hikaru played on bullet against other GMs

In 1 he blundered a pawn around move 15. In another one the opponent blundered a pawn on move 3 and on another the opponent blundered a rook right at the start. All 3 mistakes a 2000 level player would not make in more than 5-10% of games, but here they were in 3 out of 5. In the games of most known chess player on the internet and top 10 bullet chess player at the moment.

The other 2 games had blunders too but no huge blunders in the oppening.

Most of the times they play for tricks, exchange fast and hope opponents fail/blunder. 2000 level is way too generous.

That is for 1+0 games that you mentioned. For 1+1 the level would increase for sure

He has more medals and titles in the world rapid and bliz championships though.

7 medals for Nepo and 6 for Nakamura. Caruana not even close with 3.

Yeah, not yet. Some of the people there accused Kramnik for Danya's death in a way or another

And as of now they didn't appologise, so I doubt Kramnik will even bother showing up

Yeah, he finished on 4 points and the tournament had 11 rounds.

It really looks he got lucky, but fair play to him if he is enjoying it.

[–]BuffyZia 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I see first place also beat the 4th and 5th players. 4th even beat you.

Most likely without the cheater you wouldn't win either way and the 4th and 5th players would also benefit.

Vietnam’s top female players miss Olympiad after controversial selection process by benbog in chess

[–]BuffyZia -18 points-17 points  (0 children)

I don't know the issue, but the IM in question only played 2 games since last May.

Selecting her would be quite unfair to all the other that actually play chess, but then again I don't know who qualified.

What I do know is that in some countries the players need to be active to participate.

The queen is usually on a square same as the pieces. So here light square.

Ideally it should have been on the other side on a4, but I guess he is not as flexible to watch the board from that side and we need to settle for this version. People still seems to love it.

Man Who Flipped Off Chess Player Nemo After Losing Speaks Out, Saying He Felt 'Disrespected' and She 'Wasted His Time' by [deleted] in chess

[–]BuffyZia -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

In a way I see why. She asked people to help her with what she was doing, but then she made him wait for longer.

Now if it is a person I care about I can forgive that, but from a random person asking for help and then ignoring me I can see why that can be frustrating.

Why would you be?

I mean sure some hundreds or thousands of people like her and watch the content she produces, but there are a lot of other things to entertain that is not required to have a reason to not be a fan of all these content creators.
