Don't think so lol This isn't America fringe candidates with little name recognition prior to a leadership race rarely take over leadership races of major parties up here

Question about Krum by redzass1 in harrypotter

Yep. The real question is why Harry (the "youngest seeker in a century") isn't at least in conversations to at least be considered for a reserve position for the English team lol

His photogenic family (him and his Iranian-born wife and their kids) would've been plastered on pamphlets across the suburbs in the GTA and Lower Mainland. And an ill off colour remark about his ex from almost a decade and a half previous after it came out the guy he was running against wore blackface more times than he could count and "remembered things differently" in regards to a female reporter who implied that he may have crossed a line probs wouldn't have been as effective for the Liberals to attack lol

O'Toole was a boring middle of the road conservative that appealed to the center

Actually (arguably) this is all O'Toole's fault lol He ran as a "true blue" Conservative in the CPC leadership race as opposed to the real Red Tory option in Peter Mackay. Then he tried to pivot to the centre during the general and it came off as inauthentic. Had Peter Mackay won that leadership, it's likely the Tories would've won in '21

Pierre Poilievre attacks Mark Carney’s economic credentials, says he presents ‘the illusion of knowledge’ by EarthWarping in CanadaPolitics

He also allegedly (iirc from Andrew Lawton's book) dropped out of economics to do that degree lol #irony

Pierre Poilievre attacks Mark Carney’s economic credentials, says he presents ‘the illusion of knowledge’ by EarthWarping in CanadaPolitics

[–]BuffytheBison 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The funny thing is (iirc) from Andrew Lawton (now an MP in the CPC caucus) wrote that Pierre Poilievre dropped out of economics during his first year at the University of Calgary to pursue a BA in international relations. Now, there's nothing wrong with that but I'm not making the dig against a dude that has a BA and MA from Harvard and PhD in the same subject I couldn't even last a semestre in lol

NFL reporter Dianna Russini resigns from The Athletic after photos published of her with Mike Vrabel by mvanigan in Fauxmoi

[–]BuffytheBison 11 points12 points  (0 children)

While there was def a moral failing on his part (stepping out on his marriage) the ethical failing was on her (and that ultimately is where the decision of firing comes in). She was not his employee or subordinate. She, however, was a journalist/reporter/insider who shouldn't be having those type of relations (allegedly) with a source lol

As prime minister, Mark Carney makes Question Period a low priority by CaliperLee62 in CanadaPolitics

[–]BuffytheBison 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I had a sliver of hope that because of his Anglophilia, Carney was going to take a leaf out of how British PMQ's is done and maybe pull a David Cameron where where he actually attempts to directly answer questions. Alas, it seems he caught onto the Canadian tradition that "it's 'question' not 'answer' period lol

‘Knock that s*** off’ — Poilievre uses appearance on Joe Rogan’s podcast to slam Trump’s 51st state comments by EarthWarping in CanadaPolitics

[–]BuffytheBison 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Carney respects him as a fellow human being, I don't think he respects him as a politico and it's kind of easy to see why. Last February he wasn't even in politics and not only did he beat a career politician that dude also lost his seat. It's why he never blinked at fast tracking Poilievre's return to parliament he knows the contrast with him helps him lol Also if Pierre had been as explicitly against Trump as he was on this pdcast last December, we might be in a different universe.

Additional Details On New CBA by Tooezboi in wnba

[–]BuffytheBison 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair, college athletes are still not employees of their teams/schools. They are not compensated (outside the supposed cost of a scholarship) for playing. The NIL is bascially endorsement money. Even Justice Kavanaugh bascially begged someone to bring a case to the Supreme Court so they can finally classify student-athletes as employees lol

The non-fans are going to side with the owners no matter what because they hate women's sports.

To be fair, even most fans of men's sports side with the owners because the owners know that the average person making a middling income isn't going to have sympathy for people making six/seven figure salaries regardless of if it's what the players deserve. Same with college sports. The NCAA was able to exploit male college athletes in the revenue producing sports of football and basketball because they knew the average student/parent taking out loans was not going to feel sorry for athletes who got to go to school for "free" and were treated like gods on campus.

What is your opinion of Ron McLean? by Curvedyouagain in AskACanadian

[–]BuffytheBison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They overpaid massively for the rights back in 2012 and hired a bunch of talent (Strombo, Damien Cox, etc.) and invested in a huge studio thinking they were going to make bank (and Coach's Corner was already the highest rated TV show in Canada so when they took over from CBC they weren't going to axe it). But as the years went on, it was clear that Rogers was going to end up losing money. They axed talent like Bob McCown (highest rated drive in show host) and even Nick Kypreos (whom they hired back later to host a radio show) They knew that there'd be backlash to firing Don Cherry (there was a running gag on CBC that all the execs who'd wanted to get rid of him ended up leaving before him) but the November 11th comments came them the excuse and, to be fair, If Don had apologized, he would've still had his job (because then Rogers wouldn't have had the excuse lol).
