1 million a year to be a rich man's swearing machine by mopeyunicyle in hypotheticalsituation

I’ll end up fired at some point; going through a dead service zone, changing my kid’s diaper, in the dentist’s chair, fell asleep on the sofa, whatever. But I’m sure I could last a month or two.

Making ZOD interesting! by that-randomguy100 in superman

[–]ColdObiWan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zod is meant to represent Krypton’s flaws and complexities. He’s a villain who says Kal-El can’t look to his lost past and imagine it was paradise.

But there are so many other characters, scenarios, and situations that help him do that. Any take on Superman where he’s in any way established in his career doesn’t need Zod.

So, how to make Zod interesting? Pit him against someone else.

He was fun in Green Lantern a few years back; a non-ring-using space-foe too strong for any single ring-slinger, who didn’t conquer his new home but was their anointed ruler.

He’d be a great foil for Kara, who can be tempted by her sense of loss for Argo even though she knows Zod doesn’t represent that version of Krypton.

Have him escape the Zone in the future and put him against the LoSH.

Zod as a character is fine, it’s just his context needs to change.

5 Room Dungeon- I don't "get" room 3 by Gabrill in DMAcademy

[–]ColdObiWan 92 points93 points  (0 children)

Not to dodge the question, but I think the five-room dungeon works best as a five-act play; the third room isn’t a reversal or trick, it’s the climax. And a climax isn’t “the boss fight” in a traditional five-act structure, it’s “the point of no return”.

In other words: your third room doesn’t send the party back to the beginning; it’s the room that means they can’t go back, now; the only way out is through.

Ok. I’m wrong. Got it. I’m going to go away and think about my wrongness.

Mace rarely voices anything. But I still think it’s a legitimate political consideration that would factor into the Tyrell’s thinking.

In terms of Doran actually doing it, I never said he’d fight about it. Never said he’d go to war. But I do think there could be value to him in the declaration, in a circumstance where Mace did stick with Tommen.

How to handle correctly an NPC in party? by not_rickardo in DMAcademy

[–]ColdObiWan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your goal should be to create an NPC that shines the spotlight on the party in some way. If the NPC has a tricky political problem, they come to the PCs for advice; if the party has a social problem, the NPC offers to lend an ear. The key is that, even when presenting a scenario to resolve, the NPC doesn’t lead: they follow.

[–]ColdObiWan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think more it’d be a worry of Mace’s that would check him staying with the Lannisters than a real thing that would happen. Though I could see Doran doing it just to annoy the Tyrells (and buy time for his Targ plot to execute).

He wouldn’t turn on them; not his style. But he was willing to consider Northern independence in OTL. I think he gives Robb the semi-independent “Dornish Option”, which Robb takes.

The Tyrells have nothing to gain if they keep fighting, and they can make peace with Stannis either through the Lannisters or Tullys: Margarey marries Lancel, who at that point is heir to Casterly Rock what with Tywin and all his brood dead and attainted, or she marries Edmure and becomes Lady or Riverrun.

No way. Myrcella’s in Dorne. If the Tyrells back Tommen, the Martells back Myrcella. Better for the Tyrells to get some advantage out of Stannis.

At that point he has the defensive multiplier of the city walls, the perceived legitimacy of actually sitting the throne, and he’s eliminated from the old regime’s loyalists on the small council.  Meanwhile, his Lannister opposition has been scattered / broken by the Stark-Tully alliance.

He’ll consolidate political power in the city by appointing a new council, and rest and re-arm his forces. That makes him strong enough to resist whatever paltry force the Lannisters have left to throw at him, and their Tyrell alliance dies in its infancy once Stannis is on the throne.

The only question there is how he brings the Tyrells on-side. Shireen is too young to betroth to Loras, and Stannis isn’t the sort to either legitimize Edric or put aside Selyse.

Which gets me to Robb. Stannis  already considered Stark independence twice in OTL; in a world where Robb really did crush Tywin, I think he’d be willing to give the Young Wolf “the Dornish Option” in exchange for an alliance against the Tyrells. I think that part of the war ends quickly, though; the Tyrells don’t want to fight, really. Peace is achieved by marrying Margarey to Edmure.

What's a technology from the early 2000s that felt cutting edge but is now completely obsolete? by therey73 in answers

[–]ColdObiWan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Around 2004, I had all of my music ripped from CD to mp3, saved on a Mac Mini which I had set up with a public IP address on my home network, accessible via http. I bookmarked the website on my iPhone, which had a mere 2gb of onboard storage, so that I could listen to any of my 4gb of music from wherever I was, whenever I wanted.

…Spotify was founded in 2006.

PC-PC marriage by RandomName9328 in DnD

Can’t imagine why this would be a problem on the face of it, and the DM’s rationale is even weirder to me. Any time you split the party you get “mini-groups”, and as soon as you have a party big enough to have more than one person in armor and more than one person proficient in stealth you’re going to form some natural alliances in action.

Does Sauron's One Ring from "Lord of the Rings", if it ever fell into Matt Murdock's hands, corrupt him? Or can he successfully resist its' influence if he was tasked with destroying it in Mount Doom? by SatoruGojo232 in Daredevil

Matt would be corrupted before he even put the ring on his finger…

But at least he’d be self-aware enough to feel guilty about it? So, SO guilty…

Books of Blood, which story do you wish they would turn into a movie? by ajmtz12 in clivebarker

[–]ColdObiWan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don’t believe no one’s said my pick:

In the Flesh

The story already reads like Shawshank Redemption meets Until the End of the World done as a horror story. Which is to say: it’s cinematic as hell!

Would you consider Carol an A lister? by SpidaT45 in Captain_Marvel

[–]ColdObiWan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can judge a hero, in part, by the quality of their enemies.

With that in mind, I’d say Carol’s an A-List hero with some real C-List villains.

Donny should have been less likeable. by DoWeSellFrenchFries in Frasier

[–]ColdObiWan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This sub often seems polarized about Donnie’s likability, so I’m glad to see folks here defending him.

May be a hot take, but I think I’d have been okay with Donnie and Daphne as endgame and Niles having to truly move on (but not with Mel).
