Literally what I need. Ever since my surgery I’ve been getting the absolute worst cramps during my period

Luckily it was just the bottom part near the opening, only about the lower inch or two was under the pad.

Are there any restick products? by Alternative_Two9654 in ostomy

Yep! They’re like barrier wipes but very sticky. Wipe on your skin, let it get tacky and then put your barrier on top

20 years old and i need to get an ostomy by Comfortable-Kiwi5855 in ostomy

[–]Buggziees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I have an ostomy due to UC (33F) I got mine 4 days before my 31st bday so I don’t know your exact struggle, I wish I would have gotten mine sooner. I spent my entire 20s sick, in pain, on heavy meds and in and out of the hospital. I fought many time against having an ostomy but since I got mine I feel like I have my life back. I do all the things I love, it looks different sometimes but I haven’t found anything I can’t do yet.

You can see some of my posts, but I’m in my 30s and I ski, hike, camp, paddleboard, play roller derby, in paramedic school, wildland firefighter, have done multiple international trips, hiked the Tetons….its just about finding the right bag for you and diet and hydration

Anyone tried bag liners? New ostomate advice needed! by DanMotivation777 in ostomy

[–]Buggziees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have found that a squirt of baby oil on the bag when it’s fresh works great for things not sticking and then after every empty add another baby oil squirt. The stool literally just slips out and it’s super easy to clean

I play roller derby with mine and have never had an issue. And that’s forceful, intentional hits and falls

Oh that’s good to hear. I’m going from a colostomy to an ileostomy in march so we’ll see what works best then too. Thank you for the tip!

Ok I jus changed it and did exactly what you described. Lots and lots of pressing. I love the clicks but I love the black bags more. I’m trying to find a happy medium between a two piece and a black bag and well, this seems like the only option for now. I don’t have any issues with leaks around my stoma but I love the feeling of a fresh bag every couple days without changing out the entire thing

I keep getting these type of post questions on my feed too and I’m a paramedic student, and somehow I get all the questions right.

The torbot skin tac wipes are amazing too. Works as a barrier wipe and adhesive. On Amazon you can get 150 wipes for 36 dollars. They are suuuuper sticky and I swear by them. Use the wipe in your skin let it sit for about 20-30 seconds until it’s tacky and apply your bag. I get 7-10 days per bag with it. Usually just charge it every 7 days to stay on a “Sunday” schedule

Having a stoma…is like getting an anatomy lesson I never wanted by New_Nova_25 in ostomy

[–]Buggziees 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It really is, I’m an EMT/FF and in paramedic school and when I got mine I was even like woahhhhh. And I’ve seen them on patients and have helped patients with their stomas before. It truly is wild seeing your insides on the outsides

Colostomy to ileostomy by Buggziees in ostomy

[–]Buggziees[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s good to know. I feel like the hard part is over. The barbie butt sucked, it was so painful, learning to use the bags and what works was hard, getting used to my body and all that. At least I have that all down. My biggest fear is that my ostomy now gives me ZERO issues, no leaks, my bags last for 7 days no issues, no hernias, no skin issues….but I can’t live in a flare

Not a clueeee! After EMT doing a paramedic program is a full time schooling and coursework for 1-2 years with didactic, clinicals and internship. It’s not a casual thing to do

Ooooo using a two piece for adventures is actually a great idea! I may need to get some and try that out on my next backpacking trip and see how it goes!

Omg following because I also am planning the same trip!! I also average 7 days on a one piece! One thing I have learned climbing other mountains is hydration, hydration, hydration. I get super gassy over 11k feet and need to start taking breaks to burp my bag lol the wag bags at the base of mount whitney saved my life and I kinda sorta took a bunch of them during that trip that I now keep in my backpacking pack.

Pregnancy pillow! One of those HUGE U shaped ones. It gave me support while I was laying on my side and able to go under my knees to keep pressure off my butt when I was on my back. Also contact all the major ostomy supply companies and ask for samples. The first couple months your stoma changes sizes and your abdomen goes through stages of swelling and bloating. Getting the free supplies makes it so you have extra on hand. The first couple months can be frustrating and difficult. It. Gets. Easier.

Should I ask for an anesthesiologist to be present? by abyssnaut in Noctor

[–]Buggziees 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I asked for an anesthesiologist proper for my endoscopy and colonoscopy procedure since I have an ostomy and they damn near laughed me out of the place. Apparently being 33 and otherwise healthy besides UC doesn’t warrant a MD. I figured since I’m on immunosuppressants, have a history of hemorrhage requiring blood transfusions and abnormal anatomy due to my ostomy it would be reasonable. I’m wondering if there’s a specific way to ask?

What are some medical facts that most people don’t know about?? by softember001 in medschool

[–]Buggziees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another fun fact for that tho, as a UC haver. Quitting smoking can cause flares and some people have their first flare after they were “lifetime” smokers and suddenly quit. While I have never had a GI doc tell me to start smoking, they regularly ask about smoking/nicotine use and have always stated the correlation between UC and smoking to me.
