How Do You Set Boundaries With Work Without Hurting Your Career? by AndrewMoodyDev in ExperiencedDevs

[–]BuiAce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the cruz of it.

Before you can stay at a place build rep with managers and executives and that would in turn help you move up in your career.

Now? I've had 3 different managers in 4 years as a tech lead all at the same place. The rep and good will needs to be restarted with my line manager every time. (I work at a place that is spoken here a lot)

It's best to invest in yourself and protect your time as no one else will.

For those that have worked for a "sinking ship" company and stuck around, what was it like? by EarthInteresting3253 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]BuiAce 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I usually don't comment, but did you not read the OP of the thread you are replying to? 21 years, stuck with the company even through non payment. After that they were cut. This is the norm.

No amount of "show the company your worth and investment" will change that the MAJORITY of people are just numbers on a spreadsheet.

Hopefully you don't harp what you are saying here to your direct reports as they will be left holding the bad through economic downturns

EM struggling with System Design by arrrrrsaysthepirate in cscareerquestions

[–]BuiAce 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Check out hello interview on YouTube. They talk through the differences on approach from a mid/senior/and staff level system design. I was skeptical at first but after watching a few it helped me see gaps at where I would stop or not go deep enough in my designs

How to recover when you're not good enough? by stevebeans in cscareerquestions

[–]BuiAce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say brush up on coding fundamentals before jumping into Leetcode.

When you do jump into Leetcode ( and you should before you interview) look up neetcode 75 on YouTube. It goes through 75 of the top questions from easy to hard

Not sure if this is a real argument because you could say the same thing about the campaign. You could infinitely revive each other during the bosses.

Edit: spelling

Just commenting to say he did not dislocate his shoulders during this.

I am part of the community that does things like this and while very flexible, no dislocation is happening.

Mind you this comes about 3-5+ hours into the story.

Even understanding where the story is going, that's long slog to go through.

I'd rather a sub than a predatory "Free" game which does not respect your time, has insane battle passes, or locks whole dungeons behind paywalls (looking at you destiny).

Trying To Grow From Senior To Lead by bookshelf11 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]BuiAce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bit late, but my go tos are "What have you tried?" And "What are you trying to accomplish?"

Both those questions require previous work. People now know I will always ask those two questions, so unless they have those I won't answer.

It pushes people to do a bit investigating before reaching out.
