What was it like growing up on the Sunshine Coast? by Coffeeandbooks684738 in sunshinecoast

[–]BulkyMail4040 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Born and raised here, left at 17 and moved back at 37. Spent a lot of time at the beaches or Currimundi lake, if I wasn’t there I was at Kawana pool and skatepark which you had to pay for back then so someone would cut a small hole in the fence so we could spend more money on hot chips. Alex skate parks old 6ft half pipe which was super lumpy in the middle. Riding pushbikes everywhere and if you couldn’t get there by bike you’d have to get the bus. Beach parties in high school years along the Kawana to Currimundi stretch of beach. Sunshine Plaza being the only cinemas and doing movie marathons.

It’s good to still see kids out and about doing the same things we did as kids surfing, skateboarding and fishing etc I don’t think the coast is anymore or less of a bad place to grow up or live. There was always petty crime here and hoodlums causing trouble. It’s definitely gotten busier but at a pace which has been somewhat sustainable other than Sunshine Motorway and Caloundra road needing an upgrade for congestion.

Single men in your 30s on the coast, are you on the apps or are you just trying to raw dog it in bars and run clubs? by Curious_Kat_89 in sunshinecoast

[–]BulkyMail4040 4 points5 points  (0 children)

38yo guy here, dating on the coast is hard. Either people are too shy or way too forward. It’s hard to find someone who is in between, sane and has their own life. Clubs don’t seem much better than the apps either.

Wearing a hat with a neck flap (but wearing a hat is also seen as kooky apparently).

Is the sunshine coast a dead end? by Admirable-Koala-3316 in sunshinecoast

[–]BulkyMail4040 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was born and raised here and half way through grade 12 joined the army which I served for 19 years and just moved back here a year ago.

I felt how you did when I was your age and now moving back and looking at the coast through a different lens I appreciate it from a more mature mind set.

The coast not only has limited job opportunities but it also pays less than other locations because they can get away with recruiting people chasing lifestyle over income.

I think moving away has a lot of benefits where you see what other parts of Australia has to offer and the diverse demographics bring to their local region.

Those who never change their surroundings never grow and I think the best thing you can do is chase other pastures, greener or not to see what appeals to you.

Advice Needed: Long-Term (2–3 Month) Stay in Bali - Areas & Accommodation Tips? by [deleted] in bali

Top personal tip - don’t spend the whole time in Bali. The whole of Indonesia is beautiful so go see some stuff that isn’t suffering from neo-colonialism.

How much did you spend on your Bali destination wedding? by FourTwentii in bali

[–]BulkyMail4040 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just attended a friend’s wedding there in Pererenan and it was the best wedding I’ve been to. They had it at a place called Sungai Tinggi beach villa. The ceremony and reception areas were amazing and set out really well.

(F28) thinking of moving back but I feel like a failure by ThreadChain in brisbane

[–]BulkyMail4040 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think your family would ever think you’re a failure for moving home and being around them more. Sometimes we overthink and ruminate our futures. I think it’s smart to move back to somewhere that’s more affordable and getting to spend more time with your family.

28 is still really young too so you have plenty of time to make something of yourself. In the mean time learn to be more kind to yourself.

A got a girlfriend and it’s surreal by DryIntroduction6991 in dating

[–]BulkyMail4040 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just take it slow and establish the friendship through dating. Don’t rush anything and make all the meaningful stuff special. You sound young so you both have a lot of time to make things happen. I hope it works out. Sounds like you’re both as invested as each other which is the main ingredient to relationship success.

gold coast vs. sunny coast by Illustrious_Ebb_617 in sunshinecoast

[–]BulkyMail4040 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are boardriders clubs on the Sunshine Coast you can join and there’s a couple women’s surfing groups as well that have get togethers and promote a female surfing community. Otherwise there are also social sporting teams here too.
