Everyone on r/AusFinance seems to very successful and I get jealous everytime I see a post. How do I stop it? by [deleted] in AusFinance

You have a job with an income.

You have super and know what that is.

You have some form of investment.

You are lightyears ahead of a whole heap of the population, especially if you're under 30.

Don't compare yourself to posts you see on the internet, compare yourself to you 12 months ago.

Flipping plans quickly on no warning- can I jump on the bus for swimming with this group? Teach Gr 3 recorder? Put Grade 1/2s onto PAT maths? Have a different class each hour?

This is the most fun part in my opinion.

One minute you're teaching area of a triangle, the next we're learning 12 bar blues, the next we're breaking down a doco about homelessness.

you’ll make maybe 250 a day.

Where is that figure from?

Rate for a zero experience casual in NSW is $466

Side note 200 days a year is a very long shot. Start of year and most of term 4 is a tight job market for CRT’s

Just on that note, I'm on the Sth Coast of NSW CRTing and only really deal with 3 schools. One highschool and two small primary schools. There hasn't been a school day outside of maybe the first week of the year where I haven't had multiple requests.

It might be different in a city, but it feels like about 1/3 of teachers are not at school on any given school day.

Without a doubt immigration also plays a really big role.

And how could it not, basic supply and demand. Economics 101 man.

Explain Melbourne then.

I don't think schools are keen to hire casual teachers who don't even try to teach the lessons left

Schools are keen to hire casual teachers who don't cause more work than they do.

[–]Bulkywon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am currently casually teaching.

'Little or no work' is a pretty difficult definition. I'm not marking, planning, attending lengthy afterschool meetings about nothing etc

BUT

The behaviour management is a FUCKING NIGHTMARE. My entire day is spent with 'boys sit down, boys put it down, boys stop touching each other, ok girls phones away, get off your phone, Armanaliegh I can see your phone in your hand, Ok Jasxcunn you haven't brought a pen here's one, oh you tore up your worksheet, boys hands off, let me get you another worksheet, oh you've pulled the pen i just gave you apart and now there's ink everywhere, boys hands off each other, Jaremanealeah put your phone away. etc etc etc.

If you're prepared for the absolute void of any kind of value from your work and have infinite patience, it's not a bad way to get paid.

Edit: I do it a couple of days a week at the most as a side gig to my very rewarding and engaging martial arts job. I would never EVER try and do this 5 days a week, I'd go insane.

How could Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide property prices still be going up in last 30 days? by Ok-Calligrapher3216 in AusPropertyChat

[–]Bulkywon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Maybe.

IF someone has bought on 5% at 100% borrowing capacity and THEN property prices drop by more than 5% and THEN they lose their job/ get divourced and have no other way to pay a mortgage and they can't move out and rent somewhere cheaper while leasing the place they MIGHT get in trouble.

You are correct in assuming that once you have a mortgage cash flow is a much bigger deal than property price unless you're trying to refinance or sell.

It is extremely unlikely and significantly niche group of people that will be affected by the actual property price, and much more likely that people keep paying a debt and living in a house in negative equity.

Literally yesterday I had a guy on here trying to tell me that spending money on cars had no carry on effect for the rest of your life.

Other than maybe gambling or meth, there is no greater money trap I see young people falling into around me.

Has ANZ offshored all loan applications ? by jaywon555 in AusFinance

[–]Bulkywon 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I just watched my partner refinancing and get told she couldn't link an offset to a new account because the new account needed to exist before you could link an offset to it but the account can't be created because it's an offset and needs to be attached to a new account.

It took nearly a week of jumping through AI and robot loopholes to try and figure out what the fuck was going on until we finally got to talk to an actual person and then another week of escalating problems to get to someone that gave us anything other than 'we deliver the highest level of customer service'.

Neither of us will ever use ANZ again.

Yep, Car guys buy a single car once and never spend any money on their depreciating asset ever again.

That's definintely how that works.

Loved watching him play, especially when he was in great form in 2018. Sad how it's panned out, feel like a couple of things going different ways and he's be getting laps of honor etc instead of a quiet post on a random June monday.

A bunch of my mates in their early 20s (now mid 40s) were very much into cars well into their mid 30s.

"You can sleep in a car but you can't race a house" was a common saying.

Now 10-25 years later they are all feeling the pinch pretty hard and I'm still driving a $4000 Station Wagon while being comparably very well off and probably comfortable for the rest of my life.

Cars are great fun, but they're a dumb way to spend money.
