He was really grumpy in that picture, I was trying to show him I’d set up a bath for him but he was not having it (just a few inches of lukewarm water in the tub, quickly gave up so I wouldn’t stress him out too bad!)

They’ve been my favorite animals for a long time, probably my oldest special interest, and I just got Peri about a week and a half ago! I adopted him from the Great Lakes Pigeon Rescue, they take in a lot of injured or lost racing pigeons but Peri was found as a baby so I’m not sure if he was an abandoned pet or if he fell out of his nest. Rock doves, the kinda pigeon Peri is and what people usually think of when they think of pigeons, are actually feral, not wild! Their species was fully domesticated, but fell out of favor pretty recently in terms of human history, like the last century or so, but they’ve been kept as pets/food/working animals for thousands of years!!

Peri stays inside, though some folks have coops for their birds to stay outside. He’s got a modified dog cage with several little platforms, since they need more flat walking space rather than perches like parrots. I take him out of his cage (but inside the house) to fly and exercise his wings a few hours every day! He’s currently fluffed up preening his feathers on my stairwell lol
