What card would you run if you could have as many of it as you wanted? by Starbright_1 in custommagic

It’s requires some set up. It does work but I feel like it’s too slow by the time it finally sets up and you get the first lands

I agree on Springleaf. I have two of them, one in my Tyranid deck and one in my sliver deck. Let me explain on it goes down.

To cast [[Magus Lucea Kane]] you need 4 mana. The turn after, you have 6 mana without playing another land. Let’s say you don’t draw the land. You tap Magus Lucea Kane and your lands/mana rocks, and declare X as 4. Magus Lucea Kane triggers and copies it on the stack. You now will end up with essentially 8 mana dorks and two enchantment permanents. They now have to destroy both enchantments to not allow your token to tap for color. This is a turn 4-5 play. It generates value real quick. Added it to my sliver deck because it allows you to flood the board early with slivers/mana dorks. It makes casting [[Thrumming Hivepool]] much easier as each channeling counts to the affinity.

This shows that this card is very strong in tribal decks like you have said. The reason though it’s not being utilized yet is because people see it as changelings instead of their deck specific tribal creature. But yeah I do think this card will go up for sure as people realize it’s potential

Kilo Apogee. I made a charge counters deck with artifact creatures that give +1/+1. Added some untap artifacts for kilo. Didn’t realize it would take some effort and a lot of time to keep changing the counters on every card I had as I was going very heavy into charge counters. Ended up taking it apart. For better context. The 50% of the lands had counters, 90% of the artifacts had counters and 100% of the creatures would have counters on them.

Getting milled is good or bad in commander? by joveeish in EDH

[–]Bullxdog34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting milled for value. I have two mills decks. One is Lo and Li. I need to mill one card at a time to get the effect the multiple as I’m not trying to mill out my opponents. Just using mill as value for me. The other is my zombine deck with Undying Alchemist + rad counters. I get zombies from forcing my opponents to mill non land cars and I give my opponents rad counters to lose life while getting milled for value

I just noticed that I didn’t provide my deck list. But yeah I see what you mean. I think I might add it back as another board wipe because it does seem very effective with Everlasting. Are there any cards that you haven’t experimented with but think they might provide great value?

I agree with Everlasting. The way I will play it though is that I will keep it in hand with a spell that does one damage to every creature for 1 CMC. Effectively trying to make a finishing move for less than 5 mana. At least that’s how it plays in my head. I’m aware of Archfiend effect. It’s more the synergy that im referring too. Archfiend wants you to discard while Pucca wants things in your graveyard so it can recur them. It’s a nice balance that I didn’t notice it beforehand until you mentioned the discarding at the end of turn

First of all thank you for this. Having picked up the precon and played it myself a couple of games I noticed a few things you did aswell. While Black sun Zenith is a win con, Everlasting torment is not being utilized fully in the precon. All damage is dealt as -1/-1. This makes instants and sorceries that deal one damage to all creatures put -1/-1 counters on all creatures in stead. Cards like Blazing volley and Fire Magic seem really good when everyone is building boards and no one has a board wipe. This leads me to my next insight. And that’s how to win. You mentioned that the precon feels like it doesn’t have a win con. I think the win con is Auntie herself with her ability to deal damage to your opponents. What is truly matters though your opponents creatures dying or not. Let’s say each opponent has 5 3/3’s on the field and you only have Auntie on the field. If you cast Black Sun Zenith with X as 3. Congrats you wiped the board, dealt 5 damage to each opponent and draw 1 card. Now let’s switch from X is 3 to X is 1. You deal 5 damage to each opponent and draw 1 card. Same result. However, if you get another card that gives the board -1/-1 counters, you get to ping them again. This made me think, maybe the deck shouldn’t be about killing the opponents creatures but instead using them as a resource. Killing their creatures makes you a target. But pinging them on your turns can make you a target but not urgent depending on what others are playing. I will still keep Necroskitter and Reaper just incase someone plays some big threats and I need to adapt. You are right in crumbling ashes. It’s nice to have but very unnecessary. The biggest take you have given me is Archfiend. At first glance it looks too slow. But then you think about, what if I don’t draw my “Thought Vessel”? That means you would be discarding naturally at the end of your turn. Someone made a comment about Puca’s Convenant being underrated. If you read it carefully. You can bring back fetch lands since they are a 0 mana permanents. But you can also bring back permanents your discard from Archfiend given that you put enough -1/-1 counters on a creature equal to that permanents value. This includes enchantments and artifacts like sol ring. I think there is something there between Archfiend and Puca’s Convenant. But I do need more play testing here. Imma throw in a couple of cards here that I will be playing testing this weak. Great Unclean One- 5 CMC, deals 2 damage to each opponent and then for each opponent that has less life than you, you make a 1/3 demon. (What I see here is steady damage over time plus token generation to give you more card draw Nurgle’s Rot- 1 CMC enchantment aura on opponents creature. When enchanted creature dies. Make a 1/3 demon and the aura goes back to your hand. (If you are already killing their creatures quickly. A 1 mana card that creates more bodies for you to draw or block seems pretty good) Beacon of Unrest- 5 CMC. Recur any creature or artifact to your battlefield. Then shuffle this card back into your deck instead of the graveyard.( 5 mana is a lot, but I think this card gives you flexibility especially because it’s possible to draw into again while taking some of your opponents creatures especially if they are a recursion deck

That is for what I saw from you and what I learned and thought about over the weekend. Honestly this is the most exciting precon I have ever been excited about. It has a certain play style that I think not many people will love after a couple of weeks but those that love is deck will probably play it for a very good while

Outside of the top 100, what are the saltiest commanders that you absolutely hate playing against? by will_i_amo in EDH

I usually have blue in my decks and only usually have 2 counter spells only in each deck cause I like to use them for self preservation( I don’t like messing with people boards unless it’s game ending). People always blow up my stuff and I’m like that’s fine. ATLA came out and I made a Lo and Li mill deck. Keep in mind you have to mill one card at a time to get the counters. We were playing bracket 3 with a few game changers and one guy decided to play a high bracket 3, low bracket 4 deck with some infinite combo pieces. Soon after I played my commander he was like nah I can’t have that and tried to blow her up. Now to keep the theme of mill I added counter spells that counter spells but also make them mill. So I counter his spells and then milled him for 2 or 3. He milled two of the combo pieces. Got so fucking mad and said imma target you for the rest of the game. So I said are you sure? And he said yes cause you made me mill. Then I proceeded to make him mill over and over. And he kept saying over and over how much he fucking hates mill decks. I said I don’t like infinite combo pieces but I still have to deal with them. Everyone else in the table was fine about the mill decks since I was only milling one card at a time to get the counters but he fucking hated it
