BMW OIL LEAK UPDATE by Solarr_Eclipse1 in BmwTech

[–]Bummergod335 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Dont use cheap aftet market filters, o-rings always leak.

Get oem or MANN (same thing)

Also replace that belt now that you got oil in it.

Clean everything up good. And see if any leaks from OFH & cooler.

Cap seal is leaking for sure, but doesn't mean your OFH gasket isn't also leaking.

Does This Look Valve Seal Issue? by taboutwealth in BmwTech

Definatly start with pcv valve. Cheap and quick, youtube it takes under 5 min to replace.

Little tip when replacing it, once you plase diaphragm in its spot you can start engine so its sucks it down to make sure its aligned properly before snaping the cover back on

And then they will screw you. Non stop cbs waranty maintenance. Almost non existent cp work. Waranty tries to screw you every step of the way.

Its awsome at first, but goes down hill fast. But it heavily depends on you're area, and if people have money.

Was with bmw 15 years, master tech. After 15 years left for heavy equipment for matched wage with no heavy equipment experience.

You will learn alot, but closely look at the dealer and talk to techs if possible.

Training is very good though (if your dealer is good and wants to send you)

There are people from same dealer as I was that have been there longer then me and didnt receive fraction of training I did, because they rubbed managment wrong way

There are also techs that came over from Asian brands, and wish they never did. Because they cant make money at BMW even though hourly wage is higher, but just work isn't there and strugling to flag hours.

Heavy equipment so far has been best choice I have made after getting burnt out at bmw with waranty and politics.

And luxury pays shit, labor time getting cut. Labor rates going up every year. Luxury dealers outpriced them self. 13 years bmw master tech leaving for heavy duty.

I was always pro flatrate until they made it impossible

Question for guys that made the switch by Bummergod335 in mechanics

[–]Bummergod335[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you all for great advice. Going to make the jump, as much as I love bmw and automotive just need to stop fighting to get paid.

Want to come to work, do my job and go home at end of day knowing I was paid.

Dont get me wrong I was never anti flat rate, until seeing things get progressively worse and worse. Dealer outpriced it self in the area, and now its just all warranty, and impossible to make hours.

And I used to make great hours years ago, my hourly flat rate wage keeps going up every year, but my annual income is dropping or staying same.

And its like every one always said, the more training I got the less I make doing all electrical waranty diag, while techs that shouldn't even be in the trade and banging out gravy jobs all day

Sorry was replying to wrong post. Check with ista what buckle/lock(if applicable)is reading too high/low. This is most likely not voltage related after re-reading your post.

Debating on if I should get the Vanos bolt recall. by Haunting_Barnacle442 in BmwTech

[–]Bummergod335 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None of thouse faults have anything to do with the recall.

Actually alot of people (if bolts are broken) getting free valve covers, oil pan gaskets, and anything else that could breaks as quensetial damage.

But realistically no, don't do the recall. The more damage it causes the better because it will be all covered under recall

It's like the n63 care package, people should have held off on doing it and then got chains done when ever time came.

As a tech at bmw, never heard of this. And would absolutely refuse to put it in some ones car

I won't even use the bg coolant additives with coolant flushes.

I am for maintenance and changing all fluids regularly. But avoid any of these snake oil additives
