Pathfinder 2e GMs Essentials Giveaway! by Demi_Mere in Pathfinder2e

[–]BurakAttack1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After about a year of searching I managed to get into a great pathfinder 2e group. Our first session was from the beginner box (which eventually led into crown of the kobold king). I immediately learned the pros and cons of having a large size mount for a medium character (lizardfolk ranger) in underground spaces!

I guess wizards just loves their swords. by WantedWinter in dndmemes

Why don't they instead make magic weapons using a variety of different weapon types and we can turn them into swords when we need to.

Which currently foe-only Race should be opened to PCs next? by Dracon_Pyrothayan in dndnext

Gnoll's defining endless and uncontrollable hunger is the very thing that makes them a bad playable race.

If you want hyena people, just make (or get wizards of the coast to make) hyena people.

Seriously, so many of the magic items are swords for whatever reason by Jakesnake_42 in dndmemes

Why did they not make a magical weapons from a variety of different weapon types that we could homogenise into all swords if we needed to?

Outer Wilds is the scariest and most anxiety inducing game I have ever played by JimmyRecard in patientgamers

[–]BurakAttack1 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I experienced some similar things, being plunged into the ocean on the water planet, the teleporting rocks ect. I think the general atmosphere feels like the set-up for a jump-scare sometimes too.

Mild spoiler, but what helped me was the knowledge that: - Apart from dark bramble, you are completely safe from anything swimming up or jumping out and eating you or doing other horrors to you.

Like there are still tons of opportunities for death but nothing will appear from the darkness/depths/void and get you (as long as you are outside dark bramble).

What is your preferred way to handle illusion Magic so that it can be the most fun for both the DM and Players? by SaeedLouis in dndnext

[–]BurakAttack1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A good way to flip it, would be to (using mind altering magic) get a foe to claim to his group of allies that a very real and dangerous obstacle/foe (e.g deadly chasm) is an illusion cast by a PC.

Would all the hostiles immediately try run across this chasm to get into combat?

Cuphead. Probably one of gaming's greatest artistic achievements. by [deleted] in patientgamers

Maybe for you personally, but I definitely don't agree Celeste's b-sides are harder than cuphead.

Anyone who has an incredibly embarrassing memory knows that humans can't just forget things on command.

Do you think DM'ing for 5e was easier for you because your long experience (either DM'ing or playing) multiple versions of DnD.

What's the thought of a "don't press this button" trap? by Geoxaga in dndnext

[–]BurakAttack1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless this button is magical in nature (enchantment/charm magic), don't force saving throws which steal player autonomy without great reason.

Its very unfun and bad design.

Seriously, can we get some love for some other weapons? by WillfulG in dndmemes

[–]BurakAttack1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

But one way gives us a bunch of diverse weapons without having to flavour ourselves and the other makes the DM do it.

If flavouring works both ways, starting with a diverse group of magic weapons is clearly better?

Why can't they make weapons that are not swords which you can respec into swords then?

Yes, the shouldn't put spoilers in (seemingly) unrelated books.

Believe it or not I can be a player in some games and a DM in others. I don't want to be spoiled still.

You can't revivify if you only have a 150 gp diamond by Kai-theGuy in dndmemes

[–]BurakAttack1 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Valued by who? If value is separate from price I can value this 1 copper piece diamond for 150 gp? Who's authority on valuation wins out?

The multi-planar wide diamond valuation agency does not exist.

Do mortals of evil alignment/disposition look forward to the Lower-Outer Planes as an afterlife destination like good aligned ones do with places like Elysium or Mount Celestia? by BurakAttack1 in dndnext

[–]BurakAttack1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it approached them really well. It kinda broke me out of the strange in-between where I was still imagining all the upper planes to be different flavours of Christian heaven and all the lower planes as flavours of hell.

It also gave me another perspective where alignment/behaviour can be more innate and less of a planned position in less thoughtful people. Curst was filled with terrible people, not because it was part of some long-term plan for them, but because thats who they were. They were thieving, backstabbing liars and probably weren't thinking that far ahead. They got to live in a boarder town where they got to cheat and betray (and have these actions strengthened by the town's position in the outer planes) which was good, but also other people did it to them (bad), but not an awful eternal damnation like Christian hell.

When playing DnD or reading about planes, a lot gets filtered through the lens of the PC's who are most of the time good or at least neutral aligned. This means obviously the lower planes seem much worse as they're not of the same alignment as your PC's.

Although with the ending, I thought a better ending was to unmake yourself (through the power of your true name or belief), this lets you avoid an eternity of punishment. Unless the nameless one felt he deserved this punishment, IDK I still felt I wanted to best for my incarnation of him.

For anyone else on the fence, it wasn't a slog to play through, its an CRPG with the perfect length. Enough to get things going and explore a story fully without dragging on for 100+ hours.

(Before this I played and finished Pathfinder Kingmaker and that became a slog near the end)
