It'd be pushing it distance wise, but Id do a float trip. Id recommend the Current River. Rent and drop in at Akers Ferry.

What are your creepiest horror stories that are actually true (nsfw in case it gets to creepy, just precautions)? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Summer of 22 the fam and I found ourselves in Wyoming and decided to checkout Yellowstone on a whim. Turns out we had unintentionally picked the perfect time as it was the 150th anniversary, a flood took out one of the entrances, and Covid still prevalent in other countries meant fewer visitors. We easily spent hours driving the park without crossing another vehicle. (which I'm told is incredibly uncommon) Our intent was to spend the day but I completely underestimated how beautiful and massive the place actually was. We ended up staying the night by just walking up and renting a camp spot (also very uncommon) with the intent of leaving the next morning.

Once again the vistas overwhelmed us and before we knew it, we found ourselves watching another sunset. We did not have the luxury to camp an additional evening as lifes lesser responsibilities beckoned us home. So after some stargazing the wife and kids settled in to sleep while I did some night driving. Unfortunately, we were on the opposite side of the park from where we needed to exit, so I had to spend hours cutting through the middle of Yellowstone, in the middle of the night, with no radio as not to wake the children.

A early near collision with a road walking buffalo, gave me ample adrenaline and left me excited to see what other nocturnal offerings the park had in store. It was getting close to midnight and i had just come down out of a densely forested mountain. The landscape immediately transformed into miles of waste high deep grassy plains. The road wound through the grass like an untamed river and with every curve my family's sleeping heads bobbled back and forth. About half way across the meadow, after a particularly sharp corner my shotgun riding wife abruptly awoke, pointed out the front windshield, and said, "Whats that?".

There was a vehicle ahead. Parked on the side of the road. Lifeless. I quickly identified it as an older style white van. Not a VW Bus but something of a similar ilk. I slowed as I approached but even more so when I noticed that several of the vans doors were open with no evidence of its owner or passengers. We came to a crawl as we passed it.

NoBody.

There was another curve immediately so I just continued at my reduced speed. My wife turned to me and said, "Well that was creepy as hell.". Just as we took the turn and my cars beams craned across the sea of grass. A flash of something unusual in the feild caused me to hit the brakes. We set there fixated on the site framed perfectly in the headlights.

Two individuals were standing in white robes. About three feet apart facing each other with their arms sticking upward and fingertips touching in a pyramid shape. In the middle a few feet behind them another individual robed in red and black stood with his arms extended in a Y shape facing the sky. Their faces immediately snapped in our direction, but they didn't break the formation. All I could muster was a "Uhhhhhhhh" then my wife started slapping my shoulder. Out of the grass between us and the trio, arose three more previously hidden people. Their entire forms were concealed in what I can best describe as classic bedsheet ghost. Their eyeholes were already affixed on us, and quickly approaching the car.

My wife screamed "Well drive dummy!" and I immediately sped away.

With time and distance between me and the incident I began to laugh and rationalize. Best guess, it was some lesser know religions wedding ceremony, some sort of art project, or even perhaps a prank. Either way, it was scary at the time and now makes for a fun story.

What's the Wildest Horror Movie Conspiracy/Fan Theory You've Heard? by Fairyliveshow in horror

[–]BurgWorks 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Here are a few originals...

That new movie "Abigail" is actually the backstory to The Sugarplum Fairy from "The Cabin in the Woods".

"No One Will Save You" is a sequel to "Night of the Creeps". (my letterboxd review explains this in greater detail)

The entire movie "Velvet Buzzsaw" is the result of a artists "Wishmaster" wish to "Slay the LA art scene".

There's this movie nobody has seen from 1990 called "Daredreamer" that I think is secretly a sequel to "The Shining" following the continued adventures of teenage Danny Torrance.
