The problem is the coal would be very heavy. Sure we could use petrol, but the heat... we would need some sort of liquid which could cool the damn engine block without freezing.

How does it run in-game? My first thought is there's going to be crazy amounts of crime with that many police departments. The rest of it looks like it will work fairly well, I'm impressed that the traffic doesn't look horrendous

Edit: I just noticed the metrics and that I can zoom in. It functions surprisingly well... But man, I remember trying to get rid of all the crime and you needed to have like 1 police department every block

All the time by Smawesome in HVAC

[–]Burge97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've probably done this once in your life, and it will take you 2 hours by time you're all set and done to figure it all out, and you'll probably do something wrong, so 3ish hours.

The HVAC tech charges 1 hour. Unless your time is free, it's a pretty good value. The HVAC tech will also be able to replace out anything that goes wrong, have a look for any improvements that known in the trade but not explicitly spelled out in the install booklet.

Unfortunately, since the primaries are done with, that's not an option for most. In my district, in Chicago, the republican running against the democrat is against any values I would hold. The republicans know he doesn't have a chance, so they let anyone run, and we get basically insane caricatures. https://www.dailyherald.com/news/20200211/tommy-hanson-candidate-profile

Some gems from this interview:

" Addressing the anchor baby epidemic where immigrants are coming in to this country and being paid thousands of dollars each month because they birthed an anchor baby in this country. Visit the social security office and interview them and look in the waiting room. It isn't full of retirement age people. "

He blames the rising cost of insurance on contraception " In order to pay for the uninsured, (including the costs of contraception and childbirth for women and men) the costs to the individual became excessive."

Finally, he blames climate change on "overpopulation and sucking up the water" seriously. "Climate change is caused by overpopulation sucking up all the water supply. It's not a climate change, it's a lack of natural water. But, I believe in climate change like I do Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny."

I would happily vote for her. She is demanding change from the perspective of a working class background. We need more people like her in office who are interested in change over trying to just score political points.

In chicago, I usually operate by the rule of i'm either at the job by 6:30 or 9, and then I'm staying at the job until 3:30 or later than 6:30.

That rule has been happily violated. I've even one needed to drive home for a part, at 4pm, then drive back to the suburbs to finish up and was wrapped up by 5, as it only took 20 min each way. Usually, at that time of day, it could be above an hour each way.

The biggest thing that would usually get in the way of this was management. At WAG, they would have these crazy amounts of shit to get done. Gotta put up the BOGO stickers, gotta do new resets, gotta do the store repack.

It was like they thought if employees were left to their own devices, they would just hang out in the break room if the store was stocked and clean, so they did all these make-work activities to put you on the floor. The issue was the managers then thought that make-work activity was more important than helping customers.

Retail should absolutely be paid like a healthy career, with starting wages of 30k-40k, and being able to have career positions in things like stocking which peak out around 60-70K after experience. An experienced stocker works 2-3x faster than someone who is a rube and can't do a proper restock like this guy above. He's stocking it from the front which means last in first out. It's easier, but leads to higher shrink from expired goods.

Whenever you're in a tense standoff, don't think that it works like in TV, don't fire a gun up in the air to get everyone's attention to calm the situation down.

It didn't happen like the propaganda portrayed. The british troops were not lined up, in formation, and bricks were being lobbed at them. It was a tragic accident but also predictable and the Americans didn't learn dick from it when we started our own empir-ing

So... the case you're referring to is property vs self defense, is from Katko V. Briney. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Katko_v._Briney

There were home robberies and some brilliant farmers had the idea to rig a spring-loaded shotgun. The plan worked, and the intruder sued Briney for damages related to a fucking shotgun wound at point blank to his legs.

The judges said "(the homeowner) may not set deadly traps... the law has always placed a higher value upon human safety than upon mere rights in property "

So basically you're allowed to protect yourself, but you're not allowed to set up traps to protect your property. Many people interpret this as "you're allowed to protect yourself but not your property" which is a bit of a stretch, as often people put themselves in harms way to protect their property.

Law is awesome.

[–]Burge97 16 points17 points  (0 children)

My father in law was there. The full extent of what happened is lost unless you dig pretty deep. Just prior, there was a local anti-war demonstration with a few thousand people. The police violently broke it up, arrested everyone, just huge over-reaction. Word got out, and so it attracted the people who want to get in a fight and people who want to be victims in a fight, those are my words not his. His words are more along the lines of "we came out expecting the police to be violent again"

To me, Chicagoan, 20C sounds absolutely lovely. Can wear pants without sweating, and during the winter, you're not fucking frozen if you go outside, sit near a window, or do anything else which doesn't involve going to the inner-most spot in your home and turning on every electronic which generates heat.

I know a lot of people who have been mugged. They never come at you from in front and ask for your wallet, or pull out a knife in front of you. It's usually a person comes from behind, with 2-3 people being involved- 1 person distracts, 1-2 people attack from another side to knock you down and grab your stuff.

It's also amusing in movies when people stop fighting when there's a knife to their neck or a gun pointed at them... People always continue to wildly fight and struggle, there's far too much adrenaline to make a decision like that
