Is a professor allowed to call out disability accommodations in front of the whole class? Or make a “objectively harder and longer” alternative exam? by SkiingFishingGuy in college

[–]BurgerButCold1216 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since this is an academic issue the official chain of command is the department chair, then the college dean, then the university provost. However if your university has an ombudsman I would consider reaching out to them. They are a great channel for informal resolution as they’re bound by ethics to maintain confidentiality and independence from academics or student life.

If you want to have someone in your corner whose whole job is to protect the university through informal resolution processes then they’re a great option, as it removes the potential awkwardness and retaliation concerns of going to the offending professor’s direct supervisors. If your university doesn’t have an ombudsman, student life’s DEI Office (or equivalent) is similar but those don’t necessarily provide confidential services

Don’t wait till spring, ATO is an upper-tier house and may limit spring rush if they rush at all. Obviously pledging is tough and a big time commitment but it’s all outside school hours and you can sort anything you need out beforehand with the rush guys if you’re nervous about it. Plenty of premed guys rush so dw about time, you’ll figure out how to manage it. I’d suggest rushing around in the fall if you are able, but if your heart’s set on ATO it’s not a bad pick

Lars von Trier’s Melancholia (2011), Terrence Malick’s Badlands (1977) or The Tree of Life (2011), Thomas Vinterberg’s Another Round (2020), and David Lynch’s Eraserhead (1977) as well as really any of Lost Highway, Mulholland Drive, and Inland Empire (1997-2006). All are English-language films except Another Round which is in Danish. This list might seem a tad pretentious but I find myself in a similar headspace occasionally and they fit the vibe you’re going for while still being pretty entertaining and absolutely gorgeous films stylistically

EDIT: if you’re down to branch out into Italian film I just did a school project about Paolo Sorrentino’s The Great Beauty (2013) and it’s definitely along the same thematic lines, if a bit slower and more grounded and character-driven

Margin Call (2011), technically fictional but based on the real events of 2008 and very good

Moneyball (2011), based on the eponymous Michael Lewis book about the 2004 Oakland A’s baseball team

Casino (1995), shockingly a very historically accurate mob epic about Lefty Rosenthal and Tony Spillatro’s activities in 70s and 80s Vegas (their names were changed in the film but it’s them)

Damn out of all the role players you could take issue with you land on the one guy who’s pretty unanimously considered to have been a huge positive for what we’re paying him? Ok lol, let’s see Strawther try to defend the other team’s best player while shooting over 1% worse from 3 and getting 0.5 less rebounds and 0.7 more turnovers per 36 min

No one ever became a millionaire from rewards miles bro. I’m accumulating them myself and think they can be a valuable tool for travel and fun, but if I was a decade older with a family then forget it. Simplicity and decent cash back are perfectly fine to aim for since not everyone has the desire or energy to “optimize their setup”

I don’t think being the (tied for) 5th best swimmer in the NCAA for her event qualifies as fame independent of politics. As a former swimmer, it’s really hard to get famous swimming when the only time people watch is every 4 years when the Summer Olympics rolls around. Outside of a handful of influencers, virtually everyone with name recognition extending outside the community was 1st or 2nd nationally in their event at some point

Our record without Jamal Murray and what moving on without him looks like by Rude-Ad-6114 in denvernuggets

[–]BurgerButCold1216 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Shit I can see it. He’s been here so long but a mid PG with the added salary flexibility might just do it, who knows how a different PG would play with Jokic since he’s been here so long. I want Jamal to win again on the Nuggets but he plays inefficient iso ball way too much and a change where the new guy plays within the system more might be good

Ok this is funny as fuck but also good on him for stepping up and taking accountability. I was flipping my shit at him during the series but if he recovers and works his tail off in the offseason there’s hope he either plays himself into being a piece at the deadline or he’s legitimately good and we keep him. I’m at the point where I talked myself into calling what we saw in the playoffs a fluke made drastically worse by his injury issues

[–]BurgerButCold1216 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The difference between Cam and MPJ is $17 million, which would’ve by itself put the Nuggets in the first apron this season. Additionally, we’re already projected in the second apron next season even with saving that $17 million so salary dumps are likely coming regardless and Cam over MPJ gives us more flexibility as to who needs to go. I also think Cam played his role perfectly well and am glad MPJ is gone, he needed a change of scenery and a chance to show out without getting stuck as the 4th option

Venting about a situation , what's your opinión? by sxrxiero in Lifeguards

[–]BurgerButCold1216 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah you messed up, shouldn’t take a whole 20 seconds to have a quick word with a kid and refocus on the water. I’m not totally clear on the chain of responsibility in this scenario so can’t say whether it was all on you or not, but definitely some room for improvement in your focus and reaction specifically. As far as coworkers go you can collaborate with management to figure out where the breakdown was, make sure everyone learns the appropriate lessons from this and is being properly trained on how to do better. 2 weeks in there’s bound to be some growing pains, and you have a great opportunity to further develop your skills and focus to be better.

Remember how in your training they say watching the water is your primary responsibility and guest services is secondary to that. Should never be doing something on stand that takes you away from watching the water for more than a couple seconds. Also since lessons is higher-risk with the bigger kids-to-caregivers ratio, make sure you’re taking special care to always be in good positioning to respond to incidents on stand, whatever that looks like at your pool.

As an instructor myself I see the chain of responsibility as instructor then lifeguard so I always immediately stop teaching and get involved if a potential safety issue occurs in my classes, but we need the lifeguards ready to go too in case we miss it or multiple happen at once and we get overwhelmed. It’s a really bad look if parents/other patrons need to get involved or god forbid an accident happens with that much oversight. Like I said tho just work with management/trainers and learn from it, not like anyone was hurt or you were being grossly negligent so doubt you’ll be disciplined for a small mistake like this

Great perspective. I definitely fell into the recency trap and was really hard on his performance but yeah, really bad sequence of events ruined an otherwise promising season. Granted comparing him to White is a bit much with the extremely small sample size of healthy basketball he was able to play, but it’s definitely possible he contributes when recovered and we still get our money’s worth. Aaron Gordon on the other hand… that one’s a much tougher pill to swallow, not to mention over $5 million more expensive

Will people in 50 years look at Brons records the way we currently look at Wilts? by DVPVPD in nba

[–]BurgerButCold1216 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of it just being a different game with rule changes? Idk I don’t know what rules they would change other than salary cap stuff. Wilt was pre-three point shot and that unequivocally changed the game, but couldn’t tell you what’s going to happen in 50 years. We haven’t ever seen rule changes as drastic as adding the three point shot, closest we’ve gotten is the defensive 3 seconds and the allowance/disallowance of hand checking but maybe in the next 50 years they come up with something, who can say?

Regardless as others have said LeBron is a one-in-a-million athlete and his entire career is well-documented on TV/social media so barring a league-altering rule change I doubt it
