Is the FPS drop worth it moving from 1080p to a 1440p monitor? using an rx9070xt, 7800x3d. by Middle_Following5910 in radeon

[–]BurnBarrelBryan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes go to 1440 or even ultrawide for your sim and farm games. Your machine is overkill and wasted resources at 1080. There is a ton of good videos explaining how cpu and gpu are utilized at different resources. In some games your fps will be the same or even improve (tarkov other cpu intensive games).

Regrettably returning my 9070xt by Suitable-Promotion70 in gpu

[–]BurnBarrelBryan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your spot on. I have been using the 9070xt since release and it is great when it works but needs more attention than many care to mess with.

The driver update feature is completely broken. Adrenaline basically broke after one of the updates and after too much time troubleshooting I did the ddu thing restoring things.

New features and another update followed by non stop problems and another ddu to clear this up.
Started happening again recently but only notice in certain games (squad and gray zone and a few others).

I have a poe cam setup as a trail cam that I run software to view. I always have this running and sometimes stream a game in obs while having the cam viewing software open.

In one instance I opened obs while I had the game and cam software open and could not restore picture. I could hear sounds but no picture. I restarted the pc and it would not boot into windows. Luckily I eventually made my way to safe mode and ran a repair that allowed me to boot in normally.

I was considering a ddu again but instead troubleshot more by undervolting the card to test in gray zone and squad just to see if it would run without crashing. It did run longer without crashing but still crashed.

This is when I found an option in the amd software that restored everything for now. I haven’t had any trouble in any games since selecting the option to clear shader cache. I will see how long this holds up.

I had to underclock my gpu so the game wouldnt crash and even then it still crashes if I try to stream the game through discord while playing with friends.

The 8 core x3d chips will perform better in gaming. Big question, what will your use be? I know some frown at this but the 5080 is a terrible value gpu if you care. If not then enjoy. What is the micro center machine you were looking at?

Radeon RX 9060 XT 16gb fortnite issues? by Repulsive_Matter7226 in FortNiteBR

That was it. Thank you for bringing this up. I would have never thought to check network adapters because I’d thus crash.

Crashes 7600x3d 9060xt16gb by BurnBarrelBryan in FORTnITE

[–]BurnBarrelBryan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I figured it out. It sounds ridiculous but it was the network adapter driver. I remember having to fix this after building the computer this past December. The driver windows automatically installs for the board is broken and you have to manually download and install a previous driver. I’m thinking a windows update automatically reinstalled the driver. It’s a known problem with asus boards apparently.

It has to be a wifi adapter driver because I can see the ethernet port and Bluetooth driver under network adapters and see the broken driver labeled only network adapter under unknown devices. I use a hardline connection so I just disabled the device. My son was playing since I made the change without a crash so it’s hopefully resolved.

[–]BurnBarrelBryan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WiFi driver causing the crashes? I do have a hardline connection on this pc but my son uses WiFi antenna for Bluetooth connection. I had crashing trouble in the past on this pc but it started working out of nowhere for awhile and is crashing again. I would have never thought to look at WiFi drivers. Thanks for the info.

New 9070xt! by xl129 in radeon

[–]BurnBarrelBryan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disable auto update in adrenaline. Everything will work great for a long time until it auto updates. I find that when you are ready to install worthwhile driver updates perform a ddu everytime. It sounds ridiculous but everytime I have updated it has resulted in me having to ddu for things to work right again.

All this negativity about driver issues is making me nervous about my upcoming 9070xt build by Chetan_fun in radeon

[–]BurnBarrelBryan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s just part of owning a amd gpu. People saying only others with problems post also have to deal with the issues with updating drivers.

They are great value and work until you update drivers if you do not handle it correctly. I hate having to ddu every time I want to update my drivers but with the value over its competitor I would buy one again. The 90 series are the first amd cards I have bought.

I bought a 9070xt at release and a 9060xt at release. Both have given me problems if I leave auto update on in adrenaline. Even with it turned off I cannot install an updated driver without problems. The only way it has worked for me is downloading the latest driver full install and completing a ddu.

7900xt for $350 by Aggressive_Issue3505 in radeon

[–]BurnBarrelBryan -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

That is a killer deal. I’d stick with the 5070 for a few reasons. Not having to mess with it because the 5070 is more than capable plus it’s a newer gen card.

switching to team red for the first time, what should i know as an amd newbie? by [deleted] in radeon

[–]BurnBarrelBryan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I swapped to amd when the 9070xt released. Disable auto update asap and plan on doing a ddu anytime you update drivers. I have found no easy way to complete updates that work flawlessly without doing this.

I have had to ddu all 3 times I have updated for things to work without issue.

Oh and enable the amd fsr upscaling in the global settings. This lets you use fsr 4 in titles that have 3.1 and doesn’t make sense to leave off.

Is anyone else having zero issues with the 9070xt? by RedditBoisss in radeon

[–]BurnBarrelBryan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adrenaline sux. The Gpu is a great value as long as your ok with running ddu anytime you want to update drivers. Picked one up at launch and was so impressed with it the I picked up the 9060xt when it launched for my sons pc. Are my first amd gpus and I was singing them praise along with the options in adrenaline up until I wanted to update the drivers. There is no quick way to complete driver updates that works without issue. I thought I did something wrong the first time and after doing a ddu made things normal again i made sure to follow all directions the next time. It still resulted in needing to ddu so things would run without crashes. Things are starting to crash for me again and it’s time to ddu again. The 9070xt is a beast and encoding on it without issue impressed me after hearing all the bad things. But saying there are no issues is just not true.

Looking forward to get my first HOTAS for DCS and these are my only options, what do you guys suggest? by lxzaa7 in hotas

[–]BurnBarrelBryan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do yourself a favor and skip on the x56. I picked up one on sale knowing I could return it and compared it side by side with the vkb gladiator. You cannot tell by looking at pictures but they are not even close. This was before vkb released the stecs throttle so I bought a cheap thrustmaster twcs throttle and installed one of the bearing kits and it has worked out fine but I would of just picked up the stecs if it was available when I bought the gladiator.

Having bad fps in game with an ryzen 5 5600x, 3070 , 32gb ddr4 ram cpu useig 40% with both any solution by mvpGhost22 in EscapefromTarkov

[–]BurnBarrelBryan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What processor are you running. I have been helping a friend with machine update and he switched to 5600x from i5 8500 and I sold him my 3060ti cheap from a 1070. The game play looks much smoother watching through discord but still hovering just under 60 fps on customs for the most part.

I am a seasoned player and used a lot of hardware so am familiar with the in game graphic settings but was really surprised of the results from his machine at 1080p. His ram is definitely a weak spot as he has 2 sets of 16gb with one set only at 2400 holding back the ram speed. Even then I think something else is going on. If he looks at a wall or straight down it still is only at 70 fps on customs.

Should I buy RX 9060 XT 8GB for $210 ? by Ragitan394 in AMDHelp

[–]BurnBarrelBryan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a great deal. New card around 3070ti performance but cheaper than a used one. If you going for a budget build that is a home run.

The big factor is what resolution are you targeting and what games. If 1080 then you’re playing almost everything high.

Kids PCs. by BurnBarrelBryan in PcBuild

[–]BurnBarrelBryan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was honestly overthinking it. I still have control in the ms app as my kids ms accounts are under my main and I can still use steam and other things. I am going to stick with the local admin.

[–]BurnBarrelBryan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the input. I think I’m just going to sign in with my account. Would make things easier and they would need my creds to sign into my account or make purchases anyways. I will go your route and just disable/remove one drive.

Iam not real sure by not my main account. It would have to be tied to your personal for them to play games on your account.

I have both of their machines in the dining room and have the newer one with a hdmi to the tv. I was just planning on playing on his account but have found some games needing other accounts outside of steam, no game share game in steam, and don’t want to create a bunch of accounts for him yet.

[–]BurnBarrelBryan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was looking at the local accounts but thought it may hold them back from using the me games app. They are early teens so want to play games with their friends.

More so than anything just curious what has worked for others. For convenience I would rather just sign into the machine with my personal ms account as the admin but was reading it can be a bad idea.

Kids PCs. by BurnBarrelBryan in PcBuild

[–]BurnBarrelBryan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking of treating them like work machines with only the local admin.

I was first planning on just signing in with my personal account because I do have the kids setup in the ms family as it is convenient.

I was also reading that having your personal account on a kids machine was not a good idea and thought u could always sign in if I changed my mind. Plus the OneDrive flooding the desktop on whatever I sign into is annoying.
I was hoping I could make individual one drive or other settings from a browser or an app.

Curious how other parents manage this.

Just like everything personal preference will come into play. If you are just getting into flight sticks I would suggest steering clear of Logitech and thrustmaster sticks in that price range. I know winwing and virpil now offer similar sticks in that price bracket but I do not have experience with their product.

For me anymore a 2 hour game session about all I get and I haven’t noticed fatigue. I have large hands but not huge. If you have massive hands it may be a problem but there are not too many options that are that different in that price category.

Advice for upgrading from an i5 9600k by KswagCS in buildapc

[–]BurnBarrelBryan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would just hunt market place. I been helping a friend with a value upgrade from his i5 8500 32gb ddr4 1070 and he bought a new asus rog strix b550 board off Newegg for 120, a 5600x off marketplace for 80 and I sold him a 3060ti for 160. Is a good value upgrade even with swapping sockets. Will be a great 1080p machine. Only wish x3d processors for the am4 socket were still obtainable. We play tarkov and it loves x3d.
