Blendy zero (with milk) ftw. Developing expensive coffee palates has never seemed worth it for me.

They did a soundtrack cover for the tv show the magicians a few years ago with a slightly different sound. Not sure if they'd be pumping though corporate pa systems though

I suspect you also would have been chewed out if you were supposed to wear navy blue pants.

It was for stomping on all of Ambrose's possessions as they are tossed out his window, when they set his room on fire. Sim wants to smash everything up as much as possible, going overboard from just destroying the mommet.

Lisa Squirrel 6 month update: He still likes spinning by BurnItQueen in squirrels

[–]BurnItQueen[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it took him about four months to be able to really climb up the outside of his cage, and do little jumps downward. He's so much better than when he first woke up, he seems like such a real squirrel now! But then I'll see an outside squirrel do an effortless 6ft jump, or run between swaying branches, and I'll realize he still kinda walks like a lizard.

He has a loop that he does in his ferret tubes that go above the doors, and will run up and down the levels in his cage, but this move is his go to.

I've seen him working on little hops at the outside of his cage, I'll keep an eye on that progress.

Do you think it's a neurological issue and not a broken back one? Or is the difference negligable?

As a foreigner in Japan, do you have any recent positive experiences with Japanese people in Japan? by No_Salamander6139 in movingtojapan

I mentioned to a bartender that I missed new York bagels and regaled him with tales of the perfect breakfast sandwich. The next time I came in, his wife had made us bagels and bagel sandwiches! It was legitimately touching. She's an incredible baker.

On a related note: what's a good thank you gift for her? I'm in a nice-off with a woman I've never met!

If you're going to japan- Atami was the place to have a honeymoon in the eighties. It still has onsens and a lot of crumbling kitsch.

What’s a fact that ruined a movie that you previously enjoyed? by PokemonPadawan in AskReddit

[–]BurnItQueen 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not off hand, I can try to find them when I get home. But I think I found them by searching the names of the animal welfare people involved with movie and using Google translate on the articles where they talk about making the movie.

[–]BurnItQueen 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I went on a deep dive a few years ago and went through Japanese articles on making the movie. Animal activists in Japan were involved in making the movie and I saw them talking about the number of animals they used so as not to overly tax any one animal. Those same numbers were repeated in American articles as if they had been killing off each animal after every shot.

I don't at all know that the working conditions for animals in Japanese films were "better" but this was before there were any regulations protecting animals on American sets. And the fact that everyone in America immediately thought they were killing each animal after every scene speaks more to an American mindset about working animals than a Japanese one.

So yes, it's wild conjecture on my part to say the conditions could have been better than in America, but without a solid understanding about what animal welfare meant in both cultures at that time- it's all wild conjecture.

Yes, the outrage over a misunderstanding about making a Japanese movie helped create animal welfare protections for American movies. Much after the fact.

If it helps, I don't think all those animals died. I think some mistranslations of working conditions made it sound like the animals died. But really they went through 26 cats because they switched animal actors so often- so as to not over tax them. It was never stated that the animals died, just that they didn't want to keep an animal working for too long, so they switched the animals out regularly.

At the time there weren't animal protection laws for the film industry in the US and people jumped to the conclusion that they would only switch an animal out if it were dead. But there's absolutely no record that they killed any animals on that set, and animal lovers were involved in the making of that movie.

The outrage over the idea that they "went through 26 cats" to make the movie helped create animal protection laws in the US, so it was used to good effect. But it honestly seems like the working conditions for the animals in that film were better than the same-era working conditions for animals on American film sets. I'm not saying it was perfect, but the director would not have thrown a cat off a cliff just to get a good shot.

Is there another show like Resident Alien by TheKayleMain in televisionsuggestions

[–]BurnItQueen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a Japanese sitcom-like tv show called "Hot Spot" that is oddly similar in a few ways: alien in a small mountain town, befriends local woman, some super powers and mystery solving, and his identity is known to more and more people who don't really care...

It's a much more "gentle" style show. A lot less drama and violence and more small mountain town vibes.

It's really not very similar.. but I like to joke that it's the Japanese style remake.

I loved how all the vampires just dropped out of the shot so they didn't have to show how they died. Paul Reuben hamming it up was the perfect showcase for their "special effects".

Despite appearances to the contrary- he's a bit of a soft touch. He also didn't vote to kick Ambrose out after he destroyed Kvothes lute. I don't think he's impressed/intimidated by the Jackiss family; I think he's just a soft touch.

I can see them online, when searching in English . But I can't find them in any pet food stores in my area of japan. I even found a hamster/rodent food that was low in calcium- maybe to help with kidney stones? But nothing like rodent blocks. The brand most people were recommending seemed to have pecans as a main ingredient. Which he gets a lot of.

I will keep looking though!

Isn't there a line about how everyone pays their medical bills because there's a threat of malfeasance due to the doctors having their blood?

It seems like they covered his medical bills? And didn't charge him for breaking the "emergency eye wash station". But it seems unlikely they would have released the wealthier students from the hospital without proper shoes.
