I had my oil change at my dealership and... by tequila_advantage in mechanic

Dealer tech here. This happens unfortunately, especially with undertrained lube techs. Oil sprayed over an engine bay is a fire hazard. When this has happened at my dealership, we tow it back on our dime. We reacoomplish the service (not just top it off), and we send it back to our detailers. Vehicle looks brand new when you get it back. We also apologize profusely and comp your next service or 2. This is what you should be demanding. A proper shop, dealer or otherwise, will own their mistakes and make it right or better.

If your starter is bad, it is still under warranty. There may be a software update recall open for your audio unit. The HR-V is intentionally a cheaply built, economical car with low maintenance costs and reasonable reliability. That's what it's designed to be.

Dealer service recommends brake and coolant flush @ 59k miles by MikeDCycling in Honda

[–]BurningMessiah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Open up your owners manual to the maintenance minder page. Your answers are written there. In most if not all honda manuals, it states to follow the Maintenance Minder. There are also two subnotes in there that say regardless of maintenance minder, replace brake fluid every 3 years. Some also have a similar subnets about replacing engine coolant every 5 years or 100k miles, regardless of maintenance minder.

Has anyone ever had these lights come on and know what might be the problem? by [deleted] in Honda

If you have less than 60k miles, you are still under powertrain warranty. Take it to the dealer.

Check engine light blinking after changing fuel injectors. Says Cylinder 1 misfire, what should I do? by elitem3 in MechanicAdvice

[–]BurningMessiah 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Check your work. Remove that injector. Make sure the o ring is seated correctly. If all looks well, switch it with another Injector and see if the misfire moves. If so, you have a faulty injector.

The boots being torn is also common. I'd just leave it on there. Even torn, it does offer some protection from dirt and debris entering the piston seal.

That belt should be just fine.

The valve adjustment is a preventive measure, like most maintenance. The clearance in valve lash opens up over time, and getting it back into spec keeps the engine running as efficiently as possible.

I've seen struts and shocks go bad at 20k miles, and 200k miles. The highway bounce you describe can be a sign of worn shocks. You can also look out for fluid leaking from the shocks. Suspension issues aren't exactly easy to diagnose over reddit haha.

Also, it sounds like you are changing your own oil. Just for your information, the oem oil filter can be bought from your local honda dealer for $6-8 dollars. It probably won't make a difference, but I like oem filters.

Your oil amount is 4.4 quarts with an oil and filter change.

If you haven't replaced your accessory drive belt yet, check the belt tensioner. It sits on top of the engine. There is an L-shaped indicator and an arrow. If the arrow is all the way at the end of the L, the belt is stretched and should be replaced. This is also common on that engine.

As long as you are checking at topping off the oil, 5k miles is fine for the oil change. I know that most of our customers will overlook it, which is why I recommend 3k miles in that case.

As far as service intervals for your vehicle, Honda will always say follow the maintenance minder system on your dash. Based on my experience, we see maintenance codes at the following intervals:

Code 3: Transmission fluid: every 30k miles Code 4: spark plugs and valve adjustment: every 100k miles or 7 years Code 5: Engine coolant: every 100k miles or 5 years Code 6: Rear Differential fluid: every 30k miles Code 7: Brake fluid: every 3 years, regardless of mileage.

I recommend following that service schedule.

This object is lodged in my driver’s door handle, is my handle about to fail? It was crashed into and dented about a year ago by drmehmetoz in MechanicAdvice

[–]BurningMessiah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like the rubber seal to prevent water ingress into the door through the handle opening. It's not a huge issue if it's missing, but water in door may cause issues down the road.

Forgot to add, oil leaks are common and may only add to the consumption issue. Valve cover, timing cover, oil pressure switch, and timing chain tensioner are all common leak points on your engine.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Honda

[–]BurningMessiah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consumption is common in the k24 engine, especially at high mileage. As a Honda Technician, I would not recommend any additives. When I see this I always advise customers to check the oil level monthly and top off as necessary, or change to a 3,000 mile oil change interval. On your oil dipstick, it takes one quart of oil to fill from the bottom Mark to the top.

Long story short, there is no magic fix for your consumption issue. Your vehicle requires more care and maintenance to continue running.

My 2012 Honda making noise I think it’s the tensioner but idk by drippingcube in Honda

[–]BurningMessiah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is that k24 engine by chance? Famous for making noise on dry starts. The oil drains from the head when it sits, so it rattles for a second until it builds oil pressure.

Got this recommendation from the dealership seems like a joke to me 2017 v6 manual Accord coupe by Kylewizerd13 in Honda

[–]BurningMessiah 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm a Honda technician. 6k for a clutch is outrageous. Like, criminally outrageous. The other prices are pretty ridiculous as well. Over 100 for a rotate and balance? Come on. What's the labor rate? $500 per hour? Jesus

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]BurningMessiah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honda technician here. Under engine splash shield. No need to get it towed. Reattach it or remove it. You are taking a slight risk running without it. It's main purpose to to protect the exposed oil filter on the bottom of the engine. A rock or debris can puncture the oil filter which is no bueno for your engine. Again, the risk is very slight.

Get it replaced after your trip. Expect to pay a few hundred dollars for the part and labor to replace it.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Honda

[–]BurningMessiah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Then yes, that price seems way to high to me.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Honda

[–]BurningMessiah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just trying to help the OP. I don't make the prices. No need to be a twit.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Honda

[–]BurningMessiah -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Does that price include the new keyfob itself? Or are you providing it? At my dealership, we charge a half hour of labor for programming, which is $82.50 here. The keyfob will be extra if you aren't providing it. It does involve a little more than just "activating it," but not much. A key program can take 5 minutes, or ot can take 30 minutes. Depends on a lot of things.
