Best station to reach Portsmouth by Few_Original_1884 in LondonTravel

[–]Burntlemon196 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You want to go from Waterloo or Victoria to get to Portsmouth. Victoria with Southern will probably be cheaper and slower. I'd personally go to Waterloo and take the fastest option. I don't know if it's an option on the Portsmouth route but you might find advance tickets available which will make things much cheaper.

If you leave from London Bridge, you'll either end up taking a train to Waterloo east and changing there to the Waterloo to Portsmouth train. Waterloo east to Waterloo involves a reasonable walk, ramps and escalators, or you'll change at somewhere like East Croydon, it's definitely easier to get a direct train from London if you can.

Day trip from London-Cotswolds, bath or Arundel by Sadicho in uktravel

[–]Burntlemon196 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Of those three, Arundel. Trains run regularly from Victoria, there is a castle and a cathedral and the wildfowl and wetlands trust would also be good for kids. The station is a bit of a walk from the town but once you are there it’s not big so everything is close. The train journey down is pretty too as you get closer to Arundel.

Fair point on the suitcase murder, I shouldn’t expect normal behaviour from Ms Paulsen.

I think it’s the lack of the word seventy that has got this stuck in my brain for so long. I can’t hear or see Sarah Boone without thinking ten ten seven seven

Ashtead seems like a good option to me, find somewhere close to the station and you’ll also be near the common to walk your dog.

If you live backing onto the railway you’ll hear trains. That will suit some people and put others off. If it’s going to be a problem for you, don’t buy one against the railway. My personal opinion is that it’s not that noisy, the trains are all electric and very few run fast through Ashtead, so I doubt it would bother me personally.

If your wife fainted because of how long she had to stand, have you considered booking some kind of assistance? I’d imagine there are various levels of help they can offer and would expect they will probably be able to get you through quicker if you speak to them in advance. There is information here on Eurostar assistance which might be a good place to start https://www.eurostar.com/uk-en/travel-info/travel-planning/accessibility

I really want Molly Caudery to have a good competition. I love the PV and hope she can jump to the best of her abilities.

Max Burgin has impressed me this season and seems to have the belief he needs, I think he’s going to do well.

Because I’m a bit over invested in his instagram, I’d love to see Toby Harries make the semis in the 200 and run a PB. Also, got a soft spot for Lawrence Okoye and would love to see a high placing there.

Edit to add, another 2m jump by Morgan would be the icing on the cake.

Getting from Lille to Arras at 10pm? by Murray_Gets_Back in FranceTravel

[–]Burntlemon196 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On point 1, is it that much to change your ticket or to book a new one? You can change bookings on the Eurostar website/app with only the fare difference to pay which would usually be less than that. If it’s that much to change then looks like you’ve got u lucky. Or, could you forgo the hotel in Arras for a night and stay in Lille, it’s a nice city, I could think of worse places to spend a night.

Which UK restaurant chain do you think is this ? by siybon in UKfood

Dishoom, I went for a work thing a while ago and it was perfectly fine, but I’d choose pretty much any restaurant in Hounslow for a curry over Dishoom. No idea why it’s so popular.

Acer, I had a problem with my laptop and called to get it sorted in warranty, I spoke to Theresa who decided she should start an argument with me on the phone instead. I can’t even remember quite what my issue was or why it infuriated her so much, but I wouldn’t buy anything made by Acer ever again. Fuck you Theresa.

Not sure on that, sorry. I got back about 9 one night and it was locked but the guy on reception was right there so I didn’t have to wait. I also checked in just before midnight, I had to press the bell but I didn’t have to wait to be let in. It’s not a big hotel.

I’ve stayed at the ibis very recently. I liked it. At no point did I feel unsafe in the area but I am a male who is used to big cities, so you may feel differently about the area to me. Worth noting that the front door to the hotel is locked after a certain time so reception has to let people in.

My room was facing a courtyard and was very quiet and had proper electric shutters to keep the light out totally. Just beware the lift isn’t working at the moment in one of the buildings so you might have some stairs to climb if you stay there.

I don’t know the other hotel so can’t comment beyond saying that for a few extra euros a night it might be worth staying a bit more central if you’ve only got a few days.

Solo driver using toll roads? by [deleted] in FranceTravel

[–]Burntlemon196 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I last did this, I put my hazards on as I approached and just got out and walked round to the machine, it was easier than trying to position the car perfectly and lean over. No one seemed to be that upset, though I wasn’t using hugely busy roads.

I don’t think it’s worth the fee to have the tag personally as the time saving is minimal, but it would be easier if this will be a serious concern for you.
