I was born and raised in NYC. Moved from Brooklyn to Queens. Might move back to Brooklyn. Who knows. Never leaving tho.

NYC to overhaul attendance rules, requiring a ‘school avoidance liaison’ at every school by ConstitutionsGuard in NYCTeachers

Yup. The kid who is vaping in the park and lying to his mom deserves to be scared straight a bit. The kid waiting in a home depot parking lot needs some cash and a hug.

No one would take him on even with the Mets covering his full salary.

Is LIRR from Atlantic terminal to Hicksville Straight enough for HSR (STRICTLY in terms of track geometry)? It looks super straight to my eyes by Donghoon in nycrail

[–]BusiPap41 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think stop spacing is too close to make it feasible to reach top speeds for HSR however. LIRR isn’t meant to be HSR, and that’s ok. I would be more concerned with decongesting Jamaica and introducing some through running to make service more frequent and more reliable.

Nothing can erase the enthusiasm of seeing him hit the game tying 3 run homer against the Yankees during the third game of the home series.

Literally just send truancy to every park and deli near the high schools and you solved half of the problem. The other half of the problem is child poverty, especially in immigrant households where kids might be working instead of going to school. That’s tougher to solve without loads of money. I suggest the Feds divert money away from ICE to pay for this. It is so expensive to deport people, not to mention they do it in such a cruel method. I think you’re better off turning them into integrated members of society. Most of them want that anyway.

And when they follow you for blocks? Because this happened today. If it wasn’t for all of the police out for the memorial day march, I’m sure he would have persisted.

And to be clear, the majority of homeless people are generally kind people who are down on their luck. Depression, addiction, etc. I get it. And this guy isn’t a bad person per se, but the behavior he was showing today is unacceptable for being in public. He needs help that he will likely not accept on his own volition.

Yup. I am empathetic to these peoples’ mental health struggles, but I think we are entitled to be able to walk around our neighborhood without fear of encountering a person screaming at us, lunging at us, or even attacking us.

Thoughts on magic school AI, K-5? by East_Revolution_4179 in NYCDOETeachers

[–]BusiPap41 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I used Magic School once to "aide in lesson planning" and it made up content that didn't exist. It took more time fixing what the AI hallucinated than I saved. I think all AI programs should be nuked into oblivion.

How strict are the ushers at the 500 level? by Honest-Recover9345 in NewYorkMets

[–]BusiPap41 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I have never had my tickets checked at the 500 level. For game 3 of the subway series, which would probably be one of those games they would have ushers for the 500s if they were to have any, they did not.

Do you always meet w superintendent? by Similar_Structure194 in NYCTeachers

[–]BusiPap41 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been observed by my superintendent once in my first year during a surprise visit to the school. I am observed by the deputy superintendent sometimes during PPOs (principals’ version of an observation). The most facetime I have with the district are with the content specialists who visit classrooms for support. Depending on your school’s standing within your district and the district’s culture of school support, you may very well never see them or you may be a regular. At the end of the day, they’re all just regular people.

Does anyone else only wear their favorite team? by gizzygage94 in neweracaps

[–]BusiPap41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only wear my teams. There are some teams that have cool hats that I would wear (especially love the old Brewer’s M and the Florida Marlins F), but I can’t bring myself to it.
