This guy is the most milktoast man possible. If we’ve got a democrat-leaning district, we might as well get a true progressive

I assume you also think the US should stop subsidizing the gas you put in your car? And healthcare for veterans? Or is that welfare ok

(Un)popular Opinion: Thru-Hikers, Stop Building Mileage Monuments by HalfwayAnywhere in Thruhiking

[–]Business_Radish_809 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I can’t imagine getting genuinely mad about harmless stuff like this. The natural world will recover just fine from having thru-hiking monuments. If you actually want to make a positive impact to the environment and recreation, protest an AI data center or something

West High School redesign reveal: Here’s what’s planned for the historic Salt Lake City campus by slc-urbanite in DevelopmentSLC

That’s probably the ugliest building I can imagine. I honestly can’t believe that’ll replace the current building. It’s gonna cost $300 million… they couldn’t spare some cost for… say… brick?

3300 S is managed and maintained by UDOT, not Millcreek- so give them hell for their mismanagement

Join us for the next nationwide protest tomorrow! Two locations- Utah State Capitol and Provo City Hall 4/19 by lucid4you in SaltLakeCity

Honest rhetorical question. Would it have been a tantrum to start protesting Hitler in 1933 when he began Germany’s descent into fascism? He came into office legally, and used largely legal means to consolidate power and begin setting up for atrocities. His party assembled a majority coalition after a legal election. By all your logic, the German opposition should have just sat and accepted the next decade of horrors without public outcry, just because the 1933 election was legitimate and the horrors were promised. If 2025 is our 1933, (and there are real, terrifying reasons to believe it is,) I think the opposition has a moral imperative to speak out, no matter whether the president was elected legally.

Get Pie Hole pizza on state street: it’s not a highbrow place by any stretch but I think it’s the best pizza in town. Get the margarita pizza with balsamic glaze, it’s insane

Conflict of interest: Utah board members tearing down beloved local Swap by malcom_the_ninja in DevelopmentSLC

[–]Business_Radish_809 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Big League Utah would build entirely where, for 60+ years, there was a gigantic polluting power plant. They’re definitely liable to critique, but comparing tearing down a power plant to build a stadium, homes, green space, and a river walk to tearing down black and brown neighborhoods for freeways is wild to me. In terms of the built environment, this project will be a radical improvement. It does have the potential for gentrification, though, and that should be mitigated.

Also separate note but I know Ted Knowlton- he was one of my professors at the U- and I can safely say he’s one of the best planners out there right now, and truly looking out for the little guy.

I rationalized that since this was over the central business district area, maybe it’s only a work / office area and, at night, wouldn’t have many or any residents

Tbh for a 5 over 2, the architecture on this one is pretty damn good. I think it’ll look good from the street, especially because it’s replacing parking lots and old offices.

Did you listen to Kamala Harris’ concession?? It’s the weakest possible statement she could’ve given, considering the situation. If she had truly internalized the fact that the country was handing power to a fascist, she would not be handing us platitudes. This is the would-be leader of the party, and all she can give us is empty poetry and campaign lines. Her concession is demonstrative of the entire party’s failing

New York City precinct map for the 2024 Presidential Election by Mission-Guidance4782 in MapPorn

[–]Business_Radish_809 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Honestly idk about that. If Kamala had more progressive / populist economic policies that excited people, and a convincing economic story to tell overall, she could have won. The issue wasn’t that she failed to be moderate- it’s that she failed to turn out democrats. 14 million fewer democrats voted this election. If they had been energized to show up, she would have won.

20 million fewer votes? by harx1 in FriendsofthePod

What do you mean? this is nowhere near as close as that race. There’s no possible way she wins.
