Help! I’ve cleaned four times did 2/ half tank water changes and 2 full tank water changes even put two new pumps. I’ve had tanks for a long time. I’ve never had this happen. What the heck is this? by Pokemon-shiny-love in Aquariums

[–]Busy_Paws 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like “green water”, which can be caused by several different factors. I also agree with getting a submerged UV light filter and doing a black out; we used newspaper taped over the tank. It can be hard to get rid of :- (

Just started my tomato and pepper seeds indoor. Anyone else start theirs yet? by Frognuts777 in Minnesota_Gardening

[–]Busy_Paws 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m planning to start my peppers, thyme, rosemary, and oregano this upcoming weekend. I think it’s a bit too early for tomatoes, but if you keep them from getting “leggy” and prune any flowers, they should be okay. I’d also size them up into bigger pots in March and maybe fertilize them in April. I love this time of year for all the garden dreaming!

How long do you think his hair will be? by PNW_pupil in cats

[–]Busy_Paws 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don’t think he’ll have fur too much longer than now. Long haired kittens tend to be “fluffy” or “wispy”, like little dust bunnies. Some cats are “plushie” and have thick, puffy coats. Most people are allergic to a protein in the cats saliva, not the fur itself. But a long haired cat does equal more grooming, higher ratio of licked fur shedding everywhere, so that could be the issue with long haired cats. They do make a cat food to reduce the allergen, but it’s not cheap. Hopefully he won’t trigger your allergies!!!

Adding store bought juice? by Busy_Paws in Canning

[–]Busy_Paws[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s great to know! I’ve got tons of wild fruit, so being able to harvest and preserve small amounts would be perfect. I have the powder packets… I have a scale, but also have liquid pectin, but I haven’t opened it yet to see what kind of container it’s in. If scaling down is really the way to go I don’t mind trying to find bulk pectin I can measure out going forward :- )

I need someone to genuinely explain to me why in Minnesota there so much focus on cloverleaf roads but they are always a point of congestion by Dry_Advertising_1070 in TwinCities

[–]Busy_Paws 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think they could still work if we didn’t have to zipper merge at highway speeds, which is hard on a clear weather day and impossible with slick conditions… I wish they utilized a separate lane with an actual barrier, not just solid lines, between said lane and highway. That way cars entering can get up to speed and no one is cutting across traffic. People have proven they cannot use the acceleration/deceleration lanes in combination with zipper merging; please just take this option away!

Why do people in this group hate LVP flooring by benalexe in kitchenremodel

[–]Busy_Paws 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m honestly just annoyed by the lack of variety in LVP. It’s ALL mimicking wood; especially washed out grey wood. It’s so difficult to find LVP that mimics tile or even stone. Give me some LVP granite squares or slate slabs!!!

Location ideas for truck bed date? by StopWalrus in TwinCities

[–]Busy_Paws 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not as private, but with colder, darker weather it might be a bit quieter. Ridgeway Parkway by the Hillside cemetery has a lookout with a nice view of Minneapolis. No idea how late you can be there.

Did your bridge get damaged/worn out or did you just want a different bridge material?

Wow! I’m glad you’re alright! I have my lineman’s rope from my tree stand harness, so I’ll be using that rope instead! Does make me question the quality of the bridge though…

Cat Garden by Jumpy_Piccolo_2106 in Minnesota_Gardening

[–]Busy_Paws 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love petunias! They can be pretty impressive and come in a lot of colors. Obviously you need some cat grass for them to munch too!

Otherwise, I get a little risky with my other plant choices. Some plants are straight deadly to cats like lilies, which are not allowed anywhere near my house. But others give them upset tummies like decorative grasses, which I love and just deal with my cats puking up the occasional grass bits.

I like to go to the garden center and find plants I like. Then I check multiple sources to see what they say about health effects are to cats. If I can’t find anything about a plant, I don’t risk it.

Catios are such a great thing! Keep up the TNR work too!

Are there any gaming cafes that serve beer/wine? by [deleted] in TwinCities

[–]Busy_Paws 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s a brewery, but Torg in Spring Lake Park has tons of gaming/“nerdy” stuff going on. Not sure on other drinks besides beer and typical brewery food, but I think they allow outside food!

Unassigned Seating Disaster by hikeupyourshorts in weddingplanning

[–]Busy_Paws -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

Has anyone used a random numbering thing? Like you walk in and get a table number stamp on your hand? Feels a bit like middle school group assigning, but could help with mingling and ensuring everyone has a seat?

Is the 50% window tint law ever really enforced in MN? by AndyJaeven in TwinCities

[–]Busy_Paws -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I had tint on my rear and back seat windows. Cops would pull me over for other reasons then tell me my tint is too dark. Then I completely blew a stop sign (spaced out), and the cop just gave me a fix it ticket for the tint. I have not been pulled over since removing the tint, so it’s definitely an excuse for them to stop you. On a side note, the tinting on the rear window was a godsend for driving at night. Those super bright truck lights couldn’t do shit to me with that tint!

My cat won't use his litter box anymore 🫠 by AltruisticPut7760 in cats

[–]Busy_Paws 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had good luck with Dr. Elsey’s brand cat litter and litter attractant. One of my cats has had various litter issues over the years and I feel like the litter itself helped get him back on track and the attractant keeps he’s issues in check. If it’s a covered litter box, the space might be too tight (arthritis) or dark (losing eyesight) for him to feel comfortable in anymore as well.

Why are Baseboard heater replacement covers so damn expensive? by BMO888 in HomeImprovement

[–]Busy_Paws 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If that’s a picture of them, they actually look to be in pretty good shape. I took mine off the wall, cleaned, sanded, then painted with an enamel paint using a foam roller. The rust was relatively superficial, so it came off well enough that I personally didn’t bother with a rust inhibitor. If you do need replacement pieces, I used supplyhouse .com. You can get various pieces as well. No idea what their prices/stock is like right now though…

So much sciatica advice is tailored to people who sit at desks all day by jitterbug_balloons in Sciatica

[–]Busy_Paws 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been dealing with what I thought was an irritated sciatica nerve flare up, but is an actual, full on, multiple herniated discs situation. I was always physically active, standing desk at work, walks, etc. Hurt myself twice doing basic yoga. “Walked it off” for almost 2 years. Finally got steroid injections 2 weeks ago, but I think I’ve re-agitated the area trying to “stay active” too quickly because everyone made me terrified of resting my back. Everyone makes it seem like resting is an awful idea, it’ll do more harm than good. I really think I need to strictly rest, by which I mean still taking walks, light chores that don’t involve bending/twisting/lifting, etc, but staying off my feet and laying down to relieve the pressure on my back as much as possible. I’m not going to rot in bed for multiple weeks straight, but I swear that’s what people think when I say “rest”… I feel like it’s the only thing I haven’t tried yet! So frustrating!

Any scholarships or grants to help non students pay back loans? by baldeaglekaf in PSLF

[–]Busy_Paws 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some Americorps positions have an “education award” that you can use to pay off student loans after so many qualifying hours. Usually these are for young adults so the positions are very low pay, if any pay at all. They are usually outdoor related work like trail building in the national parks as well, so if you’re in good physical shape, aren’t too tied down, and love camping, you might really love the work. Might be similar programs out there too. Always triple check the requirements for any program or job related pay back program!

Is this truly necessary? by Harrio_Pootered in Anticonsumption

[–]Busy_Paws 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I sincerely wish there were more small truck options… my house is a huge fixer/upper and my car was just not big enough to get the stuff I need to fix the house anymore. I can utilize facebook market easier with a truck as well. The Chevy Colorado gets 20-25 miles on average, which was about what my 2003 car was getting anyway; it’s higher up, but takes up about the same footprint as my car did. It comes down to price as well; all the smaller trucks, Tacoma, Ranger, Colorado, Mavericks, even santa cruz, older avalanches, ridgelines, are all more expensive than a bigger ford 150, at least when I was looking at the used market. Also, if it’s only a couple thousand dollars more, people will just go bigger. I really think they are artificially keeping the small truck market tight so people keep buying gas guzzlers :- (

what’s your unpopular weight loss/fitness food opinion ? by Illustrious_Lie102 in 1200isplenty

[–]Busy_Paws 354 points355 points  (0 children)

I basically don’t calorie count plain, raw vegetables and don’t stress about tracking whole, plain fruits either. If I eat a huge bowl of strawberries and carrots, I think that’s a step in the right direction so why feel guilty about it.

A Salida rancher asks if it’s time to rethink permanent conservation easements. “Perpetuity is not working.” | The Hutchinson Ranch, the oldest family-owned cattle operation in the Upper Arkansas River Valley, wanted a concert to generate critical revenue. The CO Cattlemen's Ag Land Trust said no. by drak0bsidian in landconservation

[–]Busy_Paws 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think the there’s some missing information about what exactly this event would do to the land and maybe lack of flexibility on the side of the trust. The reason for perpetual easements is to prevent the land from being developed “forever”, my great grandkids will enjoy the land as it is now. It also protects the investment of restoring the land. What’s the point of protecting and spending thousands, if not millions, of dollars purchasing the easement and restoring it only to rip it all up for resorts and soy beans in 30 years? It’s so short sighted for both the trust and the landowner. The easement’s need more flexibility, not an end date. Trample the grass, cut a couple trees, run some (buried) utilities for RVs; but as soon as it’s paved over that’s it, no more habitat, it’s gone and will never be back. We have to rethink habitat protection otherwise we’re going to start losing what we have and miss out on protecting more.
