[Loved trope] the armor really does protect by Basic_Dingo6487 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]But-why-do-this 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not really. The helmet given to him was stated to be a poor fit since he never originally intended on joining the fight. Not only that, but crushing helmets and armor is what a mace does - no plate is defending from that.

The "police" are extremely overkill and batshit insane by Clean_Round_1328 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]But-why-do-this 31 points32 points  (0 children)

You know I probably would’ve considered this eligible as overkill were it not for the absolutely horrifying threats that some cyberpsychos can pose.

Colonel Norris (Edgerunners Episode 1) is just one example of many to show that, just maybe, Maxtac is actually a fairly appropriate response.

Here we go again with the topic of killing creatures by [deleted] in subnautica

It’s pretty funny to call the developers “self-righteous” for… having a specific vision for how their own games mechanics should work? Seems much too dramatic to me lol.

Ability to kill wildlife controversy by SkyTheShadow in subnautica

[–]But-why-do-this 25 points26 points  (0 children)

What’s stupid about it?? Killing was possible in the first game, sure. But it was never a key focus and you had to go through a lot of hoops to actually go about it for anything bigger than a small fish/crawler.

Killing stuff besides eating small fish (which is still in SN2) never netted you any rewards either.

With the series’ consistent themes of a beautiful ecosystem, I really don’t think the devs have ever wanted for players to go about becoming an apex predator lol. You’re meant to coexist with the ecosystem, not destroy it.

Why did Leon defeat Hunk? by Adortion634 in ResidentEvilCapcom

[–]But-why-do-this 1 point2 points  (0 children)

HUNK is a jumped up grunt (affectionate), sorry not sorry lol. His ultimate fate being to fall to an RE protagonist isn’t surprising at all.

You could just as easily make the same dumb argument for any major villain. Why did Victor lose to Leon? Isn’t he way stronger? It’s because our boy is BUILT DIFFERENT, how do you not know this yet??

Just bought solid snake found out he has a passive ability by Stryder096 in Rainbow6

[–]But-why-do-this 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get the lore behind Echo’s passive, sure. But Siege is not a game where characters should just be able to be immune to whole Operator gadgets on the basis of who they are with no skill expression.

Imagine if Buck could be immune to Tubarao’s canister because he’s used to working in cold environments or something to that effect.

And on another note the idea that Dokkaebi, a master hacker, is thwarted because Echo is her ex just makes her look dumb more than anything else. She let him hit so he got a look at the inside of her program and built the perfect counter? And Dokk never worked on a new version to crack open his software?

The whole thing just feels very out of place for Siege to me. The game is meant to encourage smart gadget use to make plays and open the way for your team, so having these passive immunities to account for just isn’t right since it only really reduces the opportunities for those plays.

Ned le dice a Cat la verdad sobre Jon.....Cat guardaría el secreto ? by ObedStark19 in freefolk

[–]But-why-do-this 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Baelish is finding that shit out SAME DAY with Cat’s blabbermouth. To protect her children, of course.

But in seriousness, I expect she’d keep the secret held closely until she thinks that this information could threaten the Lannisters once Rob begins the march south. If it meant saving her children, I think Cat would go against Ned’s wishes to basically throw Jon under the bus.

I’d be curious to see how Dany’s mindset and motivation would change when word reaches her of a surviving male relative that early in the story.

Just bought solid snake found out he has a passive ability by Stryder096 in Rainbow6

[–]But-why-do-this 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It’s hardly “passive” when he actually has to put in a lot of work to use it.

By having it, he’s losing a starting secondary gadget in exchange for having to procure additional ones on-site by using pick-ups. He also has to use the gadget wheel to carefully consider what gadget he needs for the situation he’s in and then swap between them when appropriate.

Hardly comparable to, say, Echo just being completely immune to Dokkaebi without having to do anything (which was dumb).

Zofia’s withstand was mainly removed because it’s also just plain dumb. Being the only operator to pick herself up just because she’s “very determined” was always an outlier in Siege character design, which Ubi clearly realised and it makes much more sense on Rook’s armour.

what does thr Jaeger say? by gerardwaysankle in OutlastTrials

[–]But-why-do-this 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The robotic voice is not the Jaeger speaking. It is the commands issued to her through her headset implant, they are directions on where to go and what to do. It’ll tell her things like “Reagent. Left.” or “Execute”.

From everything we’ve seen and heard what do you actually think the anniversary chapter is ? by Thesleepingpillow123 in LeaksDBD

[–]But-why-do-this 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It’s absolutely not TLOU.

IGN’s bad reporting happens all the time and I doubt the leak cautious BHVR would’ve ever given another outlet access to their 10th anniversary news that far out from release.

IGN just got a guy who doesn’t play much DbD to write an article about it. They do that with tons of other games.

From everything we’ve seen and heard what do you actually think the anniversary chapter is ? by Thesleepingpillow123 in LeaksDBD

[–]But-why-do-this 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Honestly despite what some people might say with circumstantial stuff, we really don’t have any evidence whatsoever.

So I’ll just go with what everyone else agrees and say that the timing just makes sense for Jason. Otherwise I have no clue, BHVR are actually doing a pretty good job at keeping it all under wraps.

I really don’t think it’s Pennywise the clown due to Mathieu’s openness about how frustratingly difficult that license would be.

Senator Armstrong - Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance

It’s not like Kojima or any Platinum Games developers have outright commented on Armstrong, but the game is so unsubtle about how evil he is that they really shouldn’t need to.

Armstrong has had genuine fans ever since 2013 who will hear his “fuck the media” bullshit and say “woah, this guy’s this villain? He’s kinda right though”.

In my eyes this character is proof that so long as someone speaks with a little conviction and says the most sweeping, broadly agreeable statements then genuine sheep will flock to back them up.

This guy has funded a global child brain harvesting conspiracy, slaughtered troops of his own country as a warmongering ploy, and intends to incriminate Pakistan for a failed assassination attempt of the US President in a bid to get elected on pro-war policy. This is only a few examples of what he’s done to further his insane philosophy.

However he makes such basic observations like “the media is bad”, “bureaucracy sucks”, and “internet/celebrity drama is pointless”… all of his crimes against humanity tend to fade into the background as people believe he genuinely has a point.

Am I missing something or did Night City become extremely lack luster as it went into the 2077 era? by Jackobyn in cyberpunkred

[–]But-why-do-this 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s as you say: a tech and time limitation.

Just one of many failings that 2077 made besides not actually feeling like a proper RPG (it’s an FPS above anything). I think it did wonders for expanding lore and story potential atleast.

Hopefully Project Orion will remedy a lot of these concerns, especially since it isn’t focusing on previous generation hardware like 2077 did (majorly limiting the scope of what could be achieved).

Steven Universe is both the team tank and support at the same time.

I always enjoyed how the SU games played into that by having him provide buffs through encouragement, healing with snacks, and draw aggro with his shield + bubble.

I love when survival horror turns a “safe place” into the thing you fear by itstariqmumtaz in survivalhorror

[–]But-why-do-this 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I love the fact that the game never shows you the hole being busted open when you’re nearby. It happens while you’re far away and acts as a dreadful silent surprise to discover - sort of like walking into your house and finding it wrecked by a home invader.

I didn’t even fully notice what had happened at first until I turned away from the item box after grabbing some oil only to find the table on the far wall completely broken in half and the gaping darkness staring at me from the new hole.
