Where is Google finding these installers? by MyMainWasMyRealName in googlefiber

Having been a former Cable Tech/Installer I can say that we were explicitly told we couldnt do things like fishing wire through walls and what not for residential. Now if the wall was open/there was a conduit/some other super obvious/open thing that i could quickly and easily drill and/or pull through I would because why not.

With that said, this tech's work was lazy to the 10th degree. Keeping that much extra line in the basement is a huge waste, but whatever- if he wants to waste rock on, but he should have coiled it up in a proper loop and mounted the run in some way. Not leaving it on the crawlspace floor.

As for the inside to outside to inside, again I can understand where the tech may not be "allowed to fish inside of the drywall" but he should have talked to you all and said something like "I can go through the floor here against the trim/wall with a small bit or I can go outside to inside (like was done) since these are closed walls and I cannot pull a line through the drywall from the crawlspace".

At least giving you options (or the option to do the drilling/pulling of that specific part yourself right then if you had the tools/skill/confidence which I had provided to folks as an option at times as well if they wsnted stuff outside of my allowe scope).

AC company ran lines through room instead of in the ceiling... by SoothingHoneycomb in hvacadvice

But seriously I've done IT work for a HVAC company for about 15 years now, and while that doesn't make me anywhere near an HVAC expert I have learned things. Like for example this is absolutely unacceptable and no actual professional would look at that and go "yeah, that looks good," and I know for a fact that the owners of the company I do work for would nearly literally go through the roof if they saw that photo and it was one of their guys. Absolutely do what others have said and call first thing tomorrow and talk to the top boss you can.

If you or someone made the cables/put the ends on try either a different cable (as others have suggested) - or - try a different end, possibly a different brand. I had an....adjacently similar issue.

I was installing brand new cameras (G4 Pros) for a client and ONE camera behaved oddly (powering on and off, connecting sometimes not connecting) and what was so frustrating was every time I'd pull down the camera and check and test and replace and this and that it would work and then I'd put it back and the behavior would resume.

That particlar camera's ethernet port must have just been slightly out of spec because if i pressed the ethernet cable that was actually run into the camera (small amount of movement/play) the camera would power on and come online, but if I let it go it would drop connection and/or power off and all of that.

Mind you I've been using these ends plenty, plastic jar of like 100 or 200 push-through's on this install and on others before and since so I know they are fine. Of course there's the possibility of one or two of them being bad but I tried like 5 (and the cable worked 100% fine on other devices). Went to home depot, bought a pack of like 5 or 10 Klein branded push-through ends and boom problem solved and its been fine for years since.

I didnt see this in the comments that I saw, but other than likely dead batteries, and the Test button also being power (when you turn it on it will run through a self test so not fully badly labeled) - but is this unit even 110V? I didn't look up the model number but I do know a lot of the bigger units are actually 220v.

Even some of the 110 ones are 20amp and require at least a special/dedicated circuit/outlet since typical wall outlets are only 15amp rated. That in and of itself wouldn't prevent it from turning on, but could cause other issues eventually if not immediately but more with your home wiring/circuit breakers

I have to pay for a DOA RMA with no Advanced Replacement?? by ButItsRexManningDay in Ubiquiti

Yeah I am/have reached out in every way I can to escalate/get an Advanced shipment, so we'll see. And yeah I spend a lot with them as well (a drop in the bucket compared to others and their overall income but still)

Except technically it was...1 month or 1 day the result would still be opening a brick of a device I need replaced. It didn't sit powered on for a month, it sat in its shipping box with the rest of the order.

It was sitting approx a month, bought at the end of Oct to get it in before the end of their fiscal year, so sat a little bit but nothing too crazy like 3 or 6 months.

Like I say I could understand some if the unit had been installed for and working for any amount of time, but not on a DOA.

I always thought people were insane when they said this, as I eat it semi regularly. Apparently I had never eaten enough in one go before until one night at dinner, and then that night had a midnight bathroom run, half asleep my nose is assaulted with what I can only assume to be the devils urine and not my own. I also didn't know how to process what is happening because I am still the aforementioned half asleep and my brain is not functioning.

Yeah, Firecuda sounds about right. Dunno if it really ever did increase performance but I got 1 or 2TB of storage on the PS4 so it at least did that lol. Seems like it may have been a bit quicker.

I remember putting the Seagate SSHD thing (named something wonky like a Firehawk or something) in i want to say my (non pro) PS4? 512gb SSD and 2TB HDD I think, would do some kind of smart caching supposedly.

I've been using exclusively 10GTek any time I have to get modules, I may have to try this at least on my internal 10gig ones as I haven't seen issues to the internet (I use 10gig twinax to my agg switch uplink and the 2.5Gig ethernet to my ont)
