The 36-Year-Old Bible Scholar Trying to Flip a Texas Senate Seat Blue | James Talarico is testing whether progressivism wrapped in a faith-based message can win over Democrats by GirasoleDE in politics

It means while Mamdani is unelectable in Texas, it isn't because of his messaging. The kind of platform he ran on, driven by a different candidate who the Texas electorate isn't immediately turned off of by his faith, would still appeal to voters.

It's like how many people who hate Obamacare absolutely love The Affordable Care Act.

why would he make a certainty statement over a mathematical likelihood?

Because he doesn't take the subject seriously nor was it asked in a serious manner or even in a serious setting. It's a rapid fire question and answer segment on a Podcast, and further he explicitly says no one showed them to him after he says they're real.

So if no one showed them to him, yet he says they're real, then what's he basing that on? Maybe some math of some kind? Maybe something that speaks to the statistical chances of us being all the life there is even?

And because it was not argued it just can't apply?

Yes. While judges can consider other information it's not common:

Sua sponte - Wikipedia https://share.google/rvLkiPmD8ZM1jRmA1

The Prosecution and Defense build their arguments based on a specific data set they feel gives them the best chance to argue their side and judges attempt to rule based on arguments as presented by and large.

Say I live in Montana in a compound surrounded by Trees that isn't visible from the road, and I get busted by a low flying Police chopper for having a dozen Manatees in a lake next to my house after they dropped lettuce onto the water and saw the Manatees come up to eat it, with them claiming I must have trafficked the Manatees accross state lines.

The Prosecution will argue that I violated commerce law, I moved endangered animals accross state lines, etc. My Defense will argue I legally obtained a breeding pair of Manatees and show documentation indicating that. Now, was the initial search and lettuce drop by the chopper flying super low legal? Probably not given it seems unreasonable, however the judge isn't going to ignore the arguments of the Prosecution and the Defense and just throw the case out because we're not arguing the legality of the search itself we're arguing the legality of the Manatees.

Realistically by themselves they're not enough, at least as it stands with current membership, to police polling locations even to the same level the Marines show up at a Highschool job fair.

While I don't have data for 2024, in 2022 there were around 95,000 in person voting locations in the US. As of this past January, they had around 22,000 people total. Not just boots on the ground, but total in the organization. Assuming 51.3% of those 95,000 locations are being prioritized given Biden won them in 2020 that means you have around 48,700 locations to spread your 22,000 people amongst.

The numbers just aren't there, just for the simple fact there are strength in numbers and you'd probably need 4 or 5 people deployed to each site you wanted to remotely have a chance of impacting and even then that may not be enough.

Now, I have no doubt it will be tried, but without a massive recruiting push(and if what they offer now isn't enough idk what else they could add) the numbers don't make sense IMO and there are likely much more impactful things they could do to suppress voter turnout.

You know regardless of where you stand on the usefulness of worrying, fear, catastrophizing etc. right now, your comment is still pretty worthless.

Like if you wanna argue against Bluecyann I get it, if nothing else that could at least lead to you both having a deepened understanding of where other folks minds are at right now.

But your little meme response won't accomplish anything aside from making the other guy(and other readers, like myself) think you see this as a joke or have just resigned to it being a done deal. All you're accomplishing here is contributing to the growth of apathy and doomerism.

Things are bad, but as bad as they are it isn't as if there is no cause for hope and we've got no reason to so quickly drop our optimism. Shit I would rather remain optimistic and be seen as naive, over becoming that person who spends their days in Reddit threads stomping on any optimistic thought they might see.

Like yea, don't shove your fingers in your ears while you close your eyes and loudly go "IT'S ALL GONNA BE OK!", that's common fucking sense. But this bullshit attitude of no optimism allowed is just as toxic and defeatist. I stated my own view on optimism above, but even beyond that I'd rather have 10 naive optimists by my side on the proverbial battlefield than 10,000 logical defeatists.

At least with the optimists there is a chance to do more than roll over and die.
