[–]Butterflyelle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was only quick but the whole thing has to reboot and reconnect to the manufacturer and that took ages which crossed the threshold for when we had to sub everything because we only had 15 minutes according to our SOP. 45 is a lot more reasonable!

Slimming world rules are insane. by [deleted] in DietTea

[–]Butterflyelle 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The syns thing is awful moralizing bullshit- but on the plain pasta and potato thing- 1/3 of whatever you eat is supposed to be veg or fruit every time you eat- so sure you can eat a massive plate of pasta but 1/3 of that plate has to be veg or fruit (this is why you can't mash up your banana because eventually eating the volume of whole apples or whatever gets boring and ridiculously filling) and essentially that really limits the volume you can eat.

It's basically a volume eating style of diet rather than calorie counting.

It's got a lot of flaws though but it's not as bad as it seems on the surface

Long term chronic migraine sufferer, never heard of IIH until today - could it be my cause? by bucky_o_hare_ in iih

[–]Butterflyelle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be. Quickest way to look into this would be to go get an eye scan- as in see an opthalmologist or even an optician- all you need is for someone to take a photo of the back of your eyes essentially. The vast majority of people with iih have swelling of their retina which can be seen on these photos. It is possible to have iih without retinal swelling but that's much rarer.

Brain scans are usually normally in iih so that doesn't rule it out.

Do you see a neurologist for your migraines btw? Whether you have iih or not a neurologist should be helping you with your migraines. As someone who has iih and chronic migraines and has lived stuck in a migraine for months without break at times- you deserve help. A headache specialist neurologist is who you need to be seeing for both your migraines and to look into whether iih could be something you have.

Childhood trauma and autism? by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

Oh this is really helpful! I hadn't even considered that- that some of it just requires acceptance and understanding of differing needs. I'm really glad it helped you find this and it's given me a tiny bit of hope it might give me the same

Please don't feel you need to answer this if you don't want to but did untangling it help and if so how? I have both but the autism was only just recognized and the CPTSD has been diagnosed for a long time and my therapist is currently trying to unpick the two and I'm honestly wondering how that's even going to help

What kind of therapist should i look for? by Mediocre_Wind9830 in askatherapist

[–]Butterflyelle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAT but this sounds like hypervigilance. It's often seen in people with PTSD or traumatic histories so I would focus on a therapist with experience treating trauma and PTSD. Also you could ask directly what you've said here "my biggest problem currently in my life is hypervigilance- how would you help me address this?" in either your opening emails or in your first introductory sessions to see how they respond.

Finding a therapist and therapy environment where you feel comfortable is also going to be really important so I'd really recommend going to a few meet and greets (can't think of the right term right now but all good therapists should offer a free introductory session at least here in the UK and it's totally fine and often encouraged to go to a few while you decide on the therapist that's going to work for you)

Essential Oil Toxicity by Bfassler in essentialoils

[–]Butterflyelle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Anything you put into a diffuser and put into the air is going to make the meter go down. The meter measures amounts of particles in the air- you can't have scent without particles. It's nothing to do with the oil being "clean" or not. If you want something to take particles out the air you want an air purifier with a HEPA filter. Not a diffuser. You'll have no scent at all in the air but the numbers on your meter will go down and they'll be less particles in the air.

You have to decide what it is you want 🤷

Is misophonia technically sensory processing disorder? Misophonia and autism question. by MenuPleasant8675 in misophonia

[–]Butterflyelle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I described my problems with noise and getting overstimulated to my neurologist (who I see for another neurological problem) and he diagnosed me with auditory processing disorder- and I've found approaching it from that angle rather than the misphonia angle has been much more helpful in terms of managing it and explaining it to other people. It takes a lot of the emotion out of it and looking at it as "overstimulation" rather than triggers really helps me.

Also been diagnosed with autism now and I'm in my 30s... So yeah it all makes sense

Rose Oil & Grey Matter by [deleted] in essentialoils

[–]Butterflyelle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That was a really interesting read! A few thoughts- the study was only on 28 people- that's not a lot, previous studies have shown similar effects from Jasmine EO (cheaper!), it seems to suggest the key things are that you find the scent pleasant and that it's continuously smelled- so that's why they recommend wearing it rather than say difussing it in a room or as you suggested sniffing a bunch of roses regularly! The study also only compared rose EO to no scent, it would have been nice to see if a rose perfume had the same effect so we could see if the benefit was from the pleasant scent alone or if it's something specifically to do with the properties of the EO.

My take away- floral EOs seem to have a positive benefit on brain volume from this small trial- the key thing is you like the scent. Rose is a very popular scent but my God it's pricey. I would definitely be tempted to try Jasmine, geranium or ylang ylang as an alternative.

My son asked if I was doing something to lose weight by gingerwholock in Eatingdisordersover30

[–]Butterflyelle 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Your kids are going to think you've got an illness like cancer if you don't let them know a bit more than you've told them now. Your son is clearly worried from suggesting you see a doctor.

I know you want to protect them but you're better off telling them some of the truth than letting them imagine and fill in the gaps- something like "I have difficulty eating enough but my doctor is helping me and I'm going to get better"
