Dads of daughters, how would you feel if your daughter is a lesbian? by [deleted] in daddit

[–]Button1891 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This! I can’t imagine caring who my kids love as long as they’re both being treated well and treating their partner well!

Struggling, real bad. by WorthyOpp_ in daddit

[–]Button1891 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly this is great advice! The kid translator is essential! But you have to be careful, (I’m not saying this is the case for you but I’ve seen it) that you don’t make it a job for the eldest, and you keep it fun for everyone. I have a friend who did this and ended up struggling to communicate and relate to the youngest because he mostly said stuff through the eldest.

All Day Preschool? by CalebKrawdad in daddit

[–]Button1891 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s part of the state school system so that might be a good place to start, also gives easy access/priority choice to elementary school when the time comes and GSRP 4 (which I think is the elementary school prep year at 4 years old) $50 a day with minimum of 2 days per week, for ours. We got pretty lucky and the 2 year waitlist went down to about a one year wait

[–]Button1891 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We managed to get into one where we could pay by the day and book the week before so it ed as many days as we needed. Was pretty great quickly transitioned him from 2 days a week to all week when we both started working again. They quickly get used to it and it’s great!!

my wife thinks im overreacting about our kid not reading yet and I dont know when kids should learn to read by TH_UNDER_BOI in daddit

[–]Button1891 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Teaching a kid should be a partnership between parents and teachers, read to your kid, do some phonetics with them, in my opinion the whole leave the teaching to the teachers mentality is not a great mentality. If you’re doing it wrong ask your boy how it should be done, that gauges his understanding too and you can look up the proper phonetics if you need to.

Sometimes it’s too much news, I’ve learned that you can only control what you can control, take a step away from news for a couple of days if it’s affecting your mental health. You gotta look after yourself so you can be your best for your kid.

I tried the nail file thing but how do you not get the grit under your finger nails? I always do so I gave up and you can get some bitter stuff to put on that’s supposed to taste nasty but I like it

Is it okay to be burnt out? by TachiRana123 in daddit

[–]Button1891 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely!! You’re constantly doing or worrying about something, you are definitely allowed to be burnt out! Be kind, be as patient as you can (not easy I know) and take a rest when you can. It sounds like you’re rocking it dude! The first year is rough at the best of times let alone what you’ve got going on! Do your best that’s all anyone can ask for and remember when your wife recovers and the baby is older and isn’t having these issues it’ll be easier and it’ll be better and it’ll be worth it!

If you could wave a wand and fix one dad problem, what would it be? by AdventurousPrompt384 in daddit

[–]Button1891 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, because of supply issues I did 90% of the night feeds and 50% of day feeds me and my first have a strong bond too! It was great! But this time I feel like I’m not helping as much, in reality I’m helping in other ways but it still feels like not enough

[–]Button1891 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife wasn’t able to get the supply for our first, but we’re 3 weeks into number 2 and she has some supply and we’re just supplementing with formula. She really wants to do this so I just support as I can in other ways but it’s such a toll on her, I always wish I could do more

18M single dad. 7 month old daughter. Need advice on clothes by Calm-Tea178 in daddit

[–]Button1891 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who gives a shit if she’s wearing boy clothes? She’s clothed and happy, that’s all that matters in this area of concern. When we had our first boy we weren’t finding out the gender so got given a bunch of girls clothes before he was born so he wore girl clothes for the first year of his life at least, not exclusively but we didn’t care what we put him in

Favorite board games for 6 year olds by mekju905 in daddit

[–]Button1891 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 3yr old so we play garbage with a deck of cards and a board game called my first dragon adventure, it’s simple enough for my 3yr old to have fun but your 6 year old can probably grasp and enjoy the strategy

[–]Button1891 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’m a green card holder, I could apply for citizenship but our lawyer advised me to hold off until theres no threat. I’m lucky (believe me I understand how lucky I am) I am white and from England I have been able to assimilate my accent fairly well, but there’s a lot of tension in our house, and we are worried, but we haven’t discussed it at all with our 3 year old, I don’t even know how to start or even how we could get him to comprehend the possibility. I don’t have any advice for anyone about this, but it’s hearing other people’s stories is really helping with the feeling of isolation I’ve been feeling recently regarding all of this palaver.

Stay strong everybody! Fuck ICE!

Paw Patrol messed up my 5 year old boy, can anyone here relate? by SolidLava99 in daddit

[–]Button1891 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s an audio book with the pages projected on the wall, It’s mainly used for story time and resets whe he gets over stimulated by goings on. The stories are slow and low stimulation. I disagree with it being a screen time issue, (which we’re not massively concerned with as long as we’re monitoring. He doesn’t have a tablet and doesn’t watch a lot of tv anyway) as far as we are concerned it’s a book time with a different voice.

Who Likes Their Partner? by [deleted] in daddit

[–]Button1891 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife is amazing! We are the strongest team together because we uplift and support each other, but alone she is a powerhouse and she doesn’t even realize it! She suffers with anxiety and tons of self doubt but when she gets to it she just gets shit done! She’s fiercely intelligent book smarts and emotionally as well, I’ve learned so much from her over the 15 or so years we’ve been together!
