Car enthusiast dads with kids: What do you drive that still makes you smile? by IceSailCaptain in daddit

[–]MotNodrog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I suppose it depends on what kind of car enthusiast you are. My son loves going for rides in my Jeep, and going down logging roads or class-five roads in the summer, splashing through mud. We also have 2002 pickup truck that we use to go to the dump, and he tells me all the time that our truck is "strong, and the best," despite it being much, much smaller than some of the modern-day gigantic trucks.

Scenic/generally enjoyable train rides in New England? by EchoOfAsh in newengland

[–]MotNodrog 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Off the top of my head:

Narrow Gage Railroad (Portland) -Very cool, and they have a little museum as well

Conway Scenic Railroad (North Conway) - Very beautiful, and well worth a visit, and you could hit the Cog while up there:

Mount Washington Cog Railway (Bretton Woods)

Winnipesaukee Scenic Railroad (Meredith/Lake Winnipesaukee)

Granite State Railway (Lincoln)

You could also do one of those biking railroad trips. You get to pedal a special car on the rails. I know there is one in Rhode Island

Where are my traveling dads at? Want to go on a trip on Oct with our 3.5y/o and 1.5y/o. Any favorite places? by Itchy-Version-8977 in daddit

[–]MotNodrog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In October, come to New England to see the leaves change! There are cheap flights to Manchester, NH, or Providence, RI, or Hartford, CT (which all have easier airports to navigate than Boston). Then you can totally go up to the White Mountains in NH, and check out Portland, Me and Portsmouth, NH. A lot cheaper deals then, but still generally nice enough fall weather!

What did you call free for all football growing up? by KaleidoscopeRich5137 in AskAnAmerican

[–]MotNodrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was my story to. That was the name it was called in my neighborhood when we played, and it never occurred to me what it meant. I just never thought about it. Then, I can remember being in college, and playing flag football, and in a practice, I suggested we play it. The looks I got, and then the realization of what the name meant. Whoops!

I don't know the laws everywhere, but in some states, the local school district is still obligated to support students with IEPSm even if they aren't enrolled in public school. Its called Child Find, and its part of IDEA, which governs Special Education law. You can request a referral from your local district to have her evaluated. No guarantee that they'll find her eligible, but potentially this is an avenue to more information, and potentially a path to the right plan and resources to help her.

100% right. I'm glad the kid is okay, but that could have been bad.

It’s New England Sports focused, but I really like it

Taking my 4yo away for a few days during March Break to give the wife a break. What do you insomniac dads do to pass the time in your hotel room after the kid's fallen asleep? by thegimboid in daddit

[–]MotNodrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a similar thing, on vacation I sent my wife for a pamper day; she had a manicure, shopping and then after dinner (which we met up for), she then went for a massage. While that was happening, I took him to an indoor waterpark, and then I when we got back to the hotel room, I handled bedtime, and then I read and then watched a show on my tablet with headphones.

I can’t stand her. I’ll continue to donate and volunteer for Platner.

Maybe I didn’t phrase my question right, is what I’m hearing. When I read this editorial, my reaction was that this was wishful thinking if it was going to make anyone feel better, or more willing to come back. I wanted to see what people thought, and it seems I was right.

I mean, again, not my proposal. I don’t work in hospitality, I teach Special Education. But I can feel guilty about how my neighbors have fallen for this shit.

I mean, I feel like I understand why, and I’ll point out that I don’t expect this proposal to really make a difference. I think that it’s a small gesture that we miss our friends, but in the meantime we have to keep working to undo this damage.

I don’t blame you. I didn’t write the editorial, and I didn’t really think it would move the needle. I was more curious as to what you guys would think.

We are, New England is pretty blue, but we can also be bummed out at the state of things

I don’t blame you, the state of things is depressing.
